It's Sokoban with chess piece movement rules. The concept works really well and remains interesting and challenging all the way through. Mechanics like tiles you can only cross once, tiles that protect you from opponent captures and tiles that promote pawns (both your own and your opponent's) are introduced at regular intervals to keep the game feeling fresh. I highly recommend it.
Clever chess piece-based Sokoban. Good and hard.
Pros: - Interesting and challenging puzzles. - Nice music. - Work on multiple OSes. Cons: - No save sync between devices. Had to redo half of the puzzles... - No undo, quite frustrating to set things up again once I made a mistake
fun mechanics! the interplay between chess and sokoban is super sweet: you can evade or sacrifice, and you can dance around the board sokoban-style to get things into position. i guess i'm like 35ish levels in and am excited to keep playing. woohoo!
Allein die Tatsache, dass man Level überspringen kann und man sie so nicht lösen muss, um weitere Level spielen zu können, find ich super. Und wer Schach mag, wird das Spiel sowieso lieben.
Imagine if you will... Sokobos and Chess hit it off at the bar. They have a few drinks.. they end up back at Soko's apartment and 9 months later we have SokoChess! It's a game about using chess pieces (and their respective movement rules) to push other chess pieces around into their "destination" spots. Like this developer's other games, it's both deceptively simple and deviously challenging. Difficulty ramps up quick, but each new game mechanic is introduced gradually. If you enjoy a good puzzle, this big-brain title is a no-brainer buy. 10/10
SokoChess has a neat concept, but I just didn’t enjoy the game whatsoever. The core idea, of a block-pushing puzzle game where the blocks (chess pieces) can move and kill you, just turns out not to be fun. In practice, there are additional issues. In particular, it just feels bad to make moves and then have your pieces get captured, when the game doesn’t even display which tiles are threatened. The behavior of opposing chess pieces is completely deterministic, so it’s annoying that the game doesn’t show you in advance what will happen after your next move, à la Slay the Spire or Into the Breach. This would make it much easier to visualize your moves. Other than that, the game also feels rather cheap: low production values, ugly main menu, etc. I wouldn't particularly mind those aspects if I enjoyed the core gameplay though.
Excellent concept, excellents puzzles, excellent jeu !
As if chess wasn't already hard enough, now you get to experience them in a whole new way. If you like puzzle games that demand you use all your problem solving skills this one is definitely for you.
Really challenging puzzle game. It will make your brain work, a lot. I really dig the aesthetics too.
