This game is amazing! The graphics are super cute, and if you like character customizations, you're in for a treat. Bomberman was my favorite game growing up, and I love that this game has a similar energy but also greater complexities that you can learn over time. Also, who doesn't love a bit of elemental magic?! I highly recommend this game and will definitely be introducing it to my friends.
A game very much like Bomberman 64's battle mode, but which also very much plays and controls like its own thing. The potion elements and mixing abilities also lend a unique flair creating a very fast-paced and chaotic experience. You can set up bots alone or to pad out a match against human opponents, and the bots are actually fun and engaging to play against, which isn't something one can say about a lot of these types of games! Steam remote play works very well and it's a great time playing with friends over and over, even for long sessions. As someone who's been way too deep into Bomberman for 20+ years, definitely recommend this as a good alternative party game
insanely fun arcade-style game to play with your friends!
Smokin Potions feels like a love letter to pre-online all the time era in gaming. Smokin Potions is an intense arena battling game akin to that of Bomberman Ultra or Pacman VS. It's main distinction is its emphasis on couch co-op style gameplay. having your buddies huddled around a display with 4 controllers as you engage in a flurry of potion tossing, hat twirling, and friendly fire frenzy of madness. The game is surface level simple, but deep down, learning to use the environment, an d the different ways to build potions, combine elements and move your potions around, turns this into a game of skill and precognition. Steam reports I have 1 hour, but it's more like 10. Customization on the game is pretty good. It's not Elden Ring, or Warframe, but it truly allows you to make yourself into the most non-serious mage possible, only to start committing bioterrorism in various maps via Arcane Chemical warfare. A key feature that really brings this all together is REMOTE PLAY. I can not stress enough how many games completely drop the ball on the opportunity to incorporate steam remote play for couch like experiences. It works so well here. My friends have wishlisted the game after I let them Remote playn with me and trying it out. It's such an underrated feature and works to perfection on this game. I have played with the devs live on stream using it, and while I dont know them personally or where theyre located at, I am gonna assume they arent right under my feet. So the fact we played this, via remote play with minimal latency is WILD. You guys heavily succeeded here. The games art style is probably the wildest thing here. it's so damn good. Beautiful arenas, cute and careful crafted animations that just work. There's nothing else to say other than I can't imagine any other style for a game like this. Clearly these guys care heavy for their game. Across multiple plays and extended time, I have had ZERO bugs of any sort, and no crashes. I've played this on a Windows 11 PC, Macbook Pro M1 running MacOS26 Tahoe beta, and SteamDeck. No issues on any platform. I have not said that about any game. This review is getting pretty long, and I could go more indepth with it. Like the beautiful map design, solid mechanics(I wont spoil it, but being a ghost is way too fun.), the amazing music tracks, or the developer transparency in their discord. Regardless, Smokin Potions is a call back to a form of gaming largely forgotten, and it does it so well. One might even say expertly. For both it's introductary price of 5.99 vs it's full price of 7.99, this game is 100% worth either price. I would recommend anyone to pick up a copy to play wth friends, and your friends to get a copy to play with their friends. A family friendly, cute, and beautifully crafted game. I hope to see where development leads and what the devs have next in line for Smokin Potions
Really loving this game. It's fun with friends and the gachapon is the cherry on top. Art style is nostalgic and the game play is smooth. 10/10 would recommend
Smokin Potions satiated my desire for a new multiplayer game in the style of Bomberman that Hudson Soft gave us back in the 90s only on the Nintendo 64. Those specific games from my childhood have been long forgotten and underappreciated, and I'm delighted to see the devs at Sleeping Robot Games share the same admiration to not only create a homage to those experiences, but expand on it in completely new and exciting ways I never thought possible for old fans as well as a new generation of gamers. Smokin Potions is much more than just Bomberman, it's chaos incarnate in a two minute time limit. It's a game where every round comes down to the wire and anyone can win. It's the type of couch multiplayer game where everyone asks for just one more round to try their chance at 1st place (or revenge), howling and laughing until their throats hurt. Even solo, I had a great time and personally found the CPU players to put up a decent challenge and best me more often than not. And while the rock-solid, hilarious gameplay should be reason enough to keep playing and revisiting this title, Smokin Potions also features 100 hats to gradually unlock and personalize your mages with. Give this one a try and experience the magic!
Smokin and potions. two of my favorite things
Title menu didn't show what options were selected on my desktop PC so unable to enter a match. On Rog Ally the game ran fine but I personally found it stilted and the style of control was not well adapted for arenas that weren't grid-based.
