Slowly Fighter sets out to accomplish one goal and one goal alone ....to be the worst fighting game of all time. Living up to it's namesake, Slowly Fighter is a painfully-slow, jerky mess of awkward move animations, nonsensical A.I., and terrible hit detection that brings to mind the Fighter Maker series from decades past. Think Virtua Fighter 1 moon jumps, the shoddy controls of Street Fighter 1, and the lackluster roster of any generic tournament fighter clone, and you'd have Slowly Fighter in a nutshell. But it doesn't end there. Matches in Slowly Fighter are reduced to single, one-hit K.O.'s. Players have to be mindful of their attacks and pay close attention to their opponent's actions. To prevent turtling and offer some semblance of strategy, the option to block is balanced with it's own energy bar. Block a hit and the meter decreases. Block two or more hits and the ability to block will become temporarily disabled; resulting in an instant K.O. on impact. The lethargic speed of Slowly Fighter becomes a major problem when attempting the game's story mode. As a surprise mechanic, players will have to contend with fireball mini games from their opponents. If a player doesn't dodge or block their opponent's succession of fireballs, it's a ....you guessed it....instant K.O. This is where the slow motion, Matrix bullet time-esque jumps in Slowly Fighter become a real issue. Outside of fighting, there is also an Avatar mode that presents players with the option to create their own custom fighters. Unfortunately, each character is limited to wearing either their default attire, or being reduced to wearing a speedo. There are also accessories such as hats and wigs that can added to a character, but these add-ons are sparse. Overall, Slowly Fighter is a 3D tournament fighter that doesn't take itself too seriously. The game was intended to be a parody title and does contain enough eccentric, Japanese humour to interest only the most diehard of fighting game purists or lovers of the Fighter Maker series looking for a modern, budget-friendly adaptation.
