things get wild when a random girl acuses you of murdering you dead brother huh very solid vn that apparently is a reboot spinoff to memories off series and its a solid one i do wish i have context on the previous one but just like trails its now a if they wanna bring it over to the west i do like almost all the routes (two of them are essentailly the same with a bit a modified depending on choice) and the characters and art is really good and my definition of what a vn is like do beware its starts slow until you get into the heroine's routes, i do like the banters with each other but could be read alone if wanted too so no worries about play order hopefully its nice
SINce Memories: Off the Starry Sky is a story-driven romantic drama developed by MAGES. Inc. and published internationally on Steam by PQube. Positioned as a spiritual continuation of the long-running Memories Off franchise, the title embraces the series’ tradition of emotional storytelling while introducing a completely new cast of characters and a narrative centered on grief, healing, and the quiet process of rediscovering meaning after personal tragedy. Rather than focusing solely on light romance, the game explores heavier themes related to loss, unresolved guilt, and the emotional bonds that help people move forward. The story follows Junya Mizumoto, a university student whose life has remained largely stagnant since the death of his older brother several years earlier. The tragedy left a deep emotional scar that affects not only Junya but also the people around him. He spends much of his time drifting through daily life, avoiding the painful memories tied to the incident. The narrative begins to unfold when several individuals enter his world, each carrying their own emotional struggles and perspectives on the past. Through his interactions with these characters, Junya is gradually forced to confront unresolved feelings and reconsider how he wants to live his life. The central mystery surrounding his brother’s death becomes a recurring thread throughout the story, tying together multiple character routes and giving the narrative a subtle sense of intrigue. As with most traditional visual novels, the gameplay primarily revolves around reading dialogue and making occasional choices that influence the direction of the narrative. These decisions determine which heroine’s route the player follows, ultimately leading to different endings and emotional outcomes. Each route offers a unique perspective on Junya’s journey and the broader themes of the story. Some paths focus on romantic development and emotional support between characters, while others explore deeper psychological struggles tied to guilt, ambition, or hidden secrets from the past. This branching structure encourages players to revisit earlier chapters in order to experience the full range of character arcs and uncover additional story details. The strength of SINce Memories: Off the Starry Sky lies largely in its character writing. Each heroine is carefully developed with distinct motivations, personalities, and emotional conflicts. Chihaya Hojo, for example, is a determined and energetic character whose pursuit of the truth surrounding past events drives much of the early narrative tension. Other characters present contrasting personalities, from cheerful and supportive companions to more reserved individuals hiding complex inner struggles. These differences create meaningful dynamics between the characters, and the story takes time to explore how their relationships evolve over the course of each route. The supporting cast—including Junya’s friends, classmates, and family members—helps flesh out the setting and adds warmth and humor that balances the heavier dramatic moments. Visually, the game follows the established aesthetic style of modern Japanese visual novels. Character designs are vibrant and expressive, with detailed portraits that change according to emotional tone and dialogue context. Key story moments are illustrated through high-quality CG artwork, which highlights romantic scenes, emotional turning points, and dramatic revelations. These illustrations are used sparingly but effectively, ensuring that important narrative beats feel impactful. The environments—ranging from quiet city streets to cozy cafés and scenic nighttime settings—help reinforce the grounded, slice-of-life atmosphere that defines much of the story. Music and voice acting play a crucial role in shaping the emotional tone of the experience. The soundtrack features a mixture of gentle piano compositions, atmospheric instrumentals, and melodic vocal tracks that underscore the game’s themes of nostalgia and introspection. These musical pieces often accompany moments of reflection or emotional confrontation, helping to heighten the narrative impact of key scenes. The Japanese voice acting cast delivers convincing performances that bring the characters to life, capturing subtle emotional shifts in tone and personality. Even simple conversations gain additional depth through the delivery of these performances. While the game succeeds in delivering a heartfelt narrative, its pacing may feel slow for players unfamiliar with the visual novel genre. Much of the experience involves reading extended dialogue sequences and internal monologues as the characters gradually reveal their thoughts and emotions. Major plot developments are spaced out across long stretches of everyday interactions, which may test the patience of players expecting a faster narrative rhythm. Additionally, some character routes feel more compelling than others, with certain storylines providing deeper emotional payoffs than the rest. Despite these minor issues, SINce Memories: Off the Starry Sky stands as a strong entry in the romantic visual novel genre. Its thoughtful exploration of grief, personal growth, and emotional connection gives the story a maturity that distinguishes it from more conventional romance-focused titles. The multiple routes offer varied perspectives on the same central themes, rewarding players who take the time to explore each storyline in full. Ultimately, the game succeeds not through mechanical innovation but through its ability to deliver an emotionally resonant narrative supported by strong character development, attractive artwork, and a memorable soundtrack. For fans of character-driven storytelling and traditional visual novels, it offers a reflective and heartfelt journey that honors the spirit of the Memories Off series while introducing a new generation of characters and stories. Rating: 7/10
I love visual novels. I also love beautiful girls. With those as a background, I put my interest on this game—SINce Memories—immediately when I found it on VN discussions. I know this is a revitalization of a used-to-be-popular franchise, and I want to read the OGs, but sadly those has yet to be translated. My Japanese is not proficient enough too. Don't be worry though, as far as I read, this VN is enjoyable. Comfy, even. The UI/UX is just so crazy with its minimalistic design and clean sound effects. Takeshi ♥♥♥ did a great job as always for conveying the themes in a nice ambience. Those and the mystery part of the story keep me want to see where Junya's (the protagonist of this VN) destiny lead to. So, I hope I could read the next entry of this franchise.
