An extremely basic interactive novel, written in an extraordinarily minimalist, almost purely descriptive manner that pays clear homage to the most primitive text adventures of yore. (Y'know, the ones where you type words or short phrases...as opposed to clicking on options like a Choose Your Own Adventure book, as you do here). Nice, unobtrusive background images, serviceable music and...that's about it. The writing isn't very special, the dialogue is purely expository, and the entire experience is almost entirely devoid of emotion, character or story (it's also pretty linear: basically "I should go here now and talk to this person" kind of stuff). Apparently the dev completed this as part of their formal game-making education, and while I feel a bit mean giving it a thumb-down, I can't think of any reason I'd "recommend" it to others. It's competent, and I hope it received a good grade...but it's pushing its luck as legitimate "entertainment". But hey: it is free. So perhaps someone out there will appreciate it. And it's always interesting to see something made with Twine: a program I've been dabbling with myself for some time, and one well worth checking out for anyone entertaining the idea of writing interactive fiction themselves. Verdict: 4.5/10. Though it's a simple text based interface, it was smooth and a rather engaging way of navigating through the story. The simple design, along with its space-vibe-retro music made for a great experience. If I'm being honest, with it's short length, it feels more like a prelude than a complete story, with it all ending without there having been any real development. You simply learn a bit about your character and their desires, then have to make a choice. That being said, with the feeling I'm left with, of wanting for more, I must say I enjoyed the imagery it evoked in my mind, with the world ( Or should I say, Space station?) it built upon and would love to see where the story might lead towards from its 5 ending points.
very very short story. You wont get time to get attached to any of the characters, that being said there is just something about the story's setting and the way its written that will have you thinking about it far longer than the time it took to read it.
This is an interesting short story. It's easy to go back in the story line when you reach each ending to see the others. My only complaint is that the story itself feels incomplete. You never find out what happens next or what happened to the Earth.
Amongst the thousands of games that have great endings we find a game that has five crap ones. Not interested in this social engineering. Thankyou.
Great game! Story is interesting, user friendly mechanics. Easy to back track story and explore various endings!
Silent Earth is a delightful and short text-based trip. The setting and overall tone felt novel to me, even in the generally overcrowded sci-fi space genre. The narrative is well-written in conveying each character's motivations and connections with little reading necessary, while still allowing the characters to feel compelling in each interaction. In my first run, going at a slow pace to explore everywhere I could, it took me about 45 minutes to reach its conclusion. This game successfully left me thinking about it well after I had beaten it. Highly recommend.
While it's not terrible it felt like it had little point.
