I was absolutely blown away by this game! I think I had gotten it on sale & it was well worth it. I hope they make another one/sequel. There are some wonky bugs & the camera can be frustrating at times but still worth playing.
How have I missed this for so long. It looks and plays divinely. Interesting story too.
Flawed gem of a title. Gameplay is punching above its weight-class, with some caveats. A lot of its systems - in particular its traversal and 'leveling' - are novel and pretty engaging, but certain important bits of info aren't really touched on or explained outside of the dedicated tutorial section of its in-universe handbook, like how crafting will often need a junk item AND components, or how you can access your stash from the fast-travel points, which kind of pumps the brakes on immersing yourself in the action. Gear has its own specific issues; stats are communicated via shorthand symbols, and it's a bit obtuse. Biomancer and Technomagi gear can't be sold to merchants, and barely anyone has any money in the first place. Enemy design is actually pretty cool - some disappear, some just slug it out, some are absolute melee beasts, and none of them take the cheap option of just disabling your powers; that's an environmental hazard you can disable. Unfortunately, what works for one usually does for the rest - Chronosphere is ridiculously busted and can let Teriel solo entire groups - and depending on upgrades, uptime is basically 100%. Only one enemy in the game can out-melee you if you use it, so don't if you want a challenging fight. Writing is serviceable, though a bit all over. There aren't many recurring characters, but two or three named NPCs who are fairly important to the plot are fairly barebones when it comes to appearances, and it almost feels like they were largely edited out or else had their roles downplayed, and it's a huge shame. Regions like Mortbane and Firefly Manor also have this feeling, and it almost feels like they were planned to have bigger questlines and more content but were cut for one reason or another. Dialogue is alright, and Teriel bickering with Artanak can be pretty funny more often than expected, but 'bandeliskshit' and 'bleed the heavens' do get a little grating after a while. Audio ranges from competent to decent and even pretty good; VA work is solid and the music is good if a little forgettable aside from the singular track with lyrics. Visuals for the cutscenes (really just slideshows, but I won't begrudge that) and portraits in the menu are good-looking and fairly distinct, but sprites and overworld are a bit hit-or-miss, and a lot of the neon hatching and purple can be a bit of a pain to look at. Stability was bar none the worst part of the game for me. More than once, I encountered a bug or a soft-lock that DEMANDED I reload a save; Teriel gets stuck in a safe door, Teriel gets stuck in the floor, Teriel gets stuck in the arena because the door closed on him and he didn't walk out. Way more times than I'd like, I'd try to pop an ability and it'd basically fizzle. Despite that, if you can look past it and if you save frequently, shouldn't be more than an annoyance. The Drowned Past DLC packaged in is also pretty fun - writing is tighter than the base game and arguably more entertaining, though it has its blind spots and doesn't explain certain things of importance until they're right on top of you, but the new area, new enemies, and new puzzles are fairly engaging. All in all, if you'd like a unique stealth/platforming RPG that isn't borderline a Souls title, but will still occasionally sucker punch you if you get cocky, a setting that feels bigger than the game and story set in it, or trying to survive a hypercapitalist post-apocalypse Australia with a snarky British ghost in your ear providing commentary, it's a good buy. If those things appeal but you're on the fence, I think even just 1/4 off is a fair price.
Decentish setting, fairly mid plot so far, probably the worst progression system I’ve ever seen in any RPG
不错的RPG,差点停不下来。盗窃有点难避视线。文本一次性给太多看不过来,没能很好融入游戏过程。引导做的不行,新任务总不清楚要去哪干嘛。
Frankly I'm surprised this game doesn't have more of a cult following. Sure it has its flaws but it's one of those games where you keep asking yourself what the dev team would have achieved with more moeny and time. Let's hope for a future sequel then.
