Its like parents of developers were forced to play Silver Surfer on NES, while parents whipped those poor souls with spike balls, and while at same time, their entire ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ house is getting wrecked down by demolition men. While graphics are beatiful, it doesn't save it from its: ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ difficulty spikes, unavoidable deaths, sword being lackluster, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ stage designs, no save feature and lifes ends up not mattering at all. When story of the game (which is medicore by the way), is only reason to even touch this turd of a game, my recommendation rate: ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AVOID IT!
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ was this a cool title to go through! It has no saving but can be pretty short to play through. I'm not all that great at platformers but this retro one with a twist was ok enough for me to get through and beat. If you happen to have a game over, you start on the level you died on which I think is pretty neat. Another pretty neat thing is the story. The way it was presented especially in the levels that you play and how that correlates with the protagonist was phenomenal. The writing was lackluster and I think more time could have gone into better dialogue but the overall concept made up for that for me. But yeah! A solid game! It gets a rec!
It tries to be one of those odd Taito / Data East arcade games like "Trio the Punch" or "Pu-Li-Ru-La", but falls flat considerably in presentation. There is no real outright "story". The level design is pure garbage. You start at least the first 3 levels of the second world right next to spikes, so that when you walk left even 1 pixel, you die. It also takes 2 minutes to load...as a 2D game.
It wasn't that short but it was so good it left me wanting more.
Getting a "Twin Peaks" meets "Ghost in the Shell" vibe You play real cute ♥♥♥♥♥ cat with one hell of a double jump. Throwing daggers at dog wizards is as fun as it sounds. Looking foward to more. "weird & hard" /i/that's what she said//i/
Aesthetics-wise, there's nifty pixel art with some effects reminiscent of those found in Dynamite Headdy or Mischief Makers, and the music is pleasant. Play-wise, expect something of a cross between I Wanna Be the Guy and Dark Souls - one hit will kill you, and some enemy placements are designed to surprise in a seemingly unfair way, but if you go slow and take the time to analyze level patterns, success won't be so far off. With that said, the player starts with plenty of lives, and there's infinite continues for those who don't care much for high-scores. The minecart section is a jerk, though, especially the tail-end. The game can be played through in an afternoon or less, which is fine, but there's no saving level progress, only score. Another potential issue is that the game can hang after closing, leaving one's Steam status reading as in-game long after one has stopped. It might be an issue with the Steam overlay, so a solution could be disabling that, maybe? I haven't tried it, but since these issues aren't too terrible, I'm still satisfied with this purchase.
You can beat this game in about 90 minutes with little difficulty (most of my recorded play time was spent just leaving the game idle to get trading cards), and once you do there is no compelling reason to come back to it. There's no achievements, no hard mode, no unlockables, there's really nothing that adds any sort of replay value outside of playing the game again to beat your high score. This is also the first game I've ever encountered that runs in super slow-motion with G-Sync enabled. This is fixed by setting the game to run at fixed refresh in the graphics control panel, but then of course G-Sync is disabled, which is lame. If you *really* want to give this game a try then wait until it gets a steep discount, otherwise it just ain't worth it.
An amusing though melancholic short story about dreams and consciousness presented as a platformer whose levels are little positioning\timing puzzles. Not stingy on lives and checkpoints so practically anyone can finish it, but if you want to challenge yourself you can shoot for a high-score. Pleasing to both the visual and the aural receptors. Admirably atmospheric.
