About
Sector Space is a cozy top-down single player space sandbox with retro graphics. The game takes place in a procedurally generated world with a seamless travel system. Each world represents a single galaxy in the void with hundreds of star systems and points of interest for the player to visit.
Characters pilot their own ship and depending on the chosen character class (profession) may have up to 6 fleet ships. As the character levels up they may select various secondary skills to further specialize and improve their ship. Skills are automatically passed onto your fleet ships but at a reduction proportional to their level. The primary means of upgrading and progressing is through selection of gear and ships of increasing tier level. The game contains hundreds of items which may have modifiers applied enhancing their function.
The character's ship and fleet can be moved between world files allowing you to generate different "galaxies" to explore. Most resources are renewable so typically you only need to play on one world. Some locations are unique and present in all generated galaxy although their position may change.
A world (galaxy) is divided up into a grid with each cell being a "sector". Characters can move from sector to sector continuously or take advantage of jump drives, jump gates, and wormholes to move larger distances. A sector can be an entire asteroid field, star system, nebula etc. There are combat areas and anomalous regions with more challenging enemies and better item drops. The character may be visited by NPC or ambushed in a random encounter while they move through dangerous regions of space. Make use of NPC stations and resources to progress, additionally characters may deploy their own stations and fortify the area with drones to protect against hostile invaders.
The typical game loop consists of levelling and acquiring gear through combat or gathering resources and crafting items which will also grant experience towards levelling up. Players can mine asteroids, refining the ore into pure elements and then craft components which are used in the construction of items and ships. Additional resources may be extracted from planets and colonies. Item's can vary in price by region and fluctuate over time which can make trading between stations a viable source of credits.

It's good, it eats your free time, it's cheap as it comes.
Really good concept but the game has lots of flaws and some annoying bugs. Combat is ok but i miss a key to target next enemy. Clicking on enemies is not easy when the screen is full of gfx and ships are close together. You can get up to 6 ships besides yours if you use Proprietor class, woule be nice to have more. Mining is satisfactory and not very slow, and asteoirds respawn pretty fast. Other classes have less ship slots, but thay can spawn more turrets and other bonuses. The base building concept is good but it needs more systems to automate tasks and the stations engagement range is super short even if they station has a super long weapon range. Basically they dont shoot until the enemy is beside the base about under 1000 AUs distance, even if they station has 4 times that range. Only found 6 or 7 doable quests, the rest of the stations have nothing. The game even tells you to go to a station to pick the next quest afert doing one of the starting ones, and there is no quest there. Main problems: When you deploy a station it starts with no shields, no weapons, no energy, absolutely nothing, which is incredibly underwhelming. Every time you plant a base the game starts to spawn fleets around you every few seconds, making the first minutes of any base a very stressing moment until you have the equipment installed (manually slot by slot, takes a while) The station is a sitting duck until you properly equip it and upgrade it. You have to dock all your ships inside the station to access the equipment tab so the station is undefended while you do this. You can plant some turrets around it but turrets are very weak in this game and npcs tend to ignore them. It would be nice if the station had at least one basic shield, generator and armor equipped. Basically you need to enter station, super fast go to the management tab, select the items from your cargo and then equip them manually on each slot, while keeping an eye for the enemy fleets that are going to spawn around you constantly. Sometimes ive been receiving a stream of 2 to 3 fleets every 20-30 seconds for a while, they even overlap enemy fleets with orange/neutral ones. You have to enter the base, install a few equiipment and then exit to defend the base, because it will be constantly attacked from all directions. Math errors calculating weights when picking up cargo or loot, if you jettinson 1 item the ship will recalculate de real weight again, but it gets bugged very often showing a ship that is at 60% capacity as full for example. Doesnt happen with your cargo, only with the npcs cargo. Pick up range for items and materials is too low, specially for the stations equipped with the PCU device which has only 1000 range (not very long) This device needs a lot more range, minimum double its current value. Auto mining doesnt work fine for npcs, they leave most of the ores behind. You have to move around the ores a bit if you want your npc ships to get all of them and your bay is already full, they always leave some rocks behind even when the rocks are clearly within range and the ship has room in the cargo bay. Ammunition takes too much cargo space, specially missiles and fighters. Missile builds are not very viable if your missile supply is limited by the cargo space. Yu cant stay long in combat with missiles, they eventually get depleted after a fewe minutes in combat. Material cost for station upgrades is also affected by some math error that makes the cost increase exponentially after doing some tasks like fabricating industrial parts. It only resets to the normal value if you exit the game and enter again. The game has a problem (memory leak apparently) that causes the game to run worse when time passes. After a while the undock button stops working properly and the performance gets worse. Also the auto save freezes the game and the time frozen increases with time passes playing, so after a few hours it can freeze for 10 seconds even every time it auto saves. The only solution is exit the game and start it again. Some actions like undocking or reclycling stuff need a dedicated key bind. Processing the materials with the reciclying mechanics using only the mouse is really annoying. When you have lots of money and items the game starts to fail with array index negative value error. I had to stop playing one of my toons because the game crashes about 5-10 mins after loading the save game. I was trying to plant a base near the celestial level 70 miniboss nebula on one of the galaxy corners but the game started to crash after a few minutes in and was impossible to plant the base and equip it before the game crashed again. Upgrades cant be extracted when you are dismantling an item, you have to use a dedicated item to remove the upgrade and then recycle the item. If you recycle without doing it the upgrades will never be part of the materials you get. The neutral npcs are orange color, and they can assess a target before attacking it. This is not working fine since crappy ships do suicidal attacks against stations constantly or a level 30 ship will attack a 5 ship fleet dozens of levels above. There are also some other neutrals that are yellow and they cant attack you (only red or orange enemies). The orange ones attack you sometimes, and sometimes they ignore you completely. Stations should be movable, slowly but they should be able to be repositioned in some way. Currently once you plant a station its fixed in place and you cant pack it and move it, and it cant move itself. Some actions give xp even if you reach max level, i dont get it. Im halfway into level 201.... To craft the most advanced ships you need the plans that drop from one of those ships pilotted by a npc mini boss, one plan for each one you want to build, so sometimes you need to farm some bosses for a while if you want to make a fleet of battle carriers, dreadnoughts or something like that. The plans should be an unlock feature, not a consumable, and the bosses should be harder. The game is a bit hard at the beginning but when you reach top tiers then it becomes extremely easy. I got a 5 battle carrier fleet that is basically immune to anything i can find in the game right now, any miniboss lasts about 10-15 seconds. The highest level mobs are under level 80 i think. You can reach level 200 with your captain. I guess they need to add higher level mobs or some areas that scale the enemies with your current level. *********************** This is a gem for the price it has. If it gets finished and they fix some craps its going to be a really nice game.

Good start, but it needs too cook for a bit. I'll come back to this after a while. Needs alot of UI QOL updates.
I have no idea how have I missed such gem of a game. This game as if EVE Online and Space Pirates And Zombie had a child in a best possible outcome with focus on entertaining singleplayer. My only regret is that I haven't discovered it earlier. What are you waiting for? Buy it! It costs meagre $4.99, which is absolutely a steal for such low price, considering that you're guaranteed months of playtime!
Simple and fun.
The game seems simple, but has all the depth you could want in a space sandbox game. I'm loving it so far
Hasnt been updated in months. Which is a shame The game is fun but needs a lot of work. Especially in the UI and the Ship ai department along with legibility when it comes to crafting. Theres a lot of issues that open up the longer you play. Will revisit the review if this game is in development again but until then, its a nice timesink for the price but frustration can take over once you try to go into endgame activity.
fun so far
Very Very Good. I hope the Dev keep developing it.
