About
In Sector 404, you play as a man returning home late at night. The block is quiet—too quiet. You take your medicine like always, but something’s wrong. The stairwell feels endless, the air feels heavy and unseen eyes seem to follow your every step. You need to get home. But the building has other plans.
Starting at the ground floor, your goal is simple: reach your apartment—but how far is it tonight? Choose your route: 10, 15, or 20 floors. The higher you go, the more chances for something to go wrong.
The floors hide anomalies - you must watch every shadow, listen to every sound, and notice the smallest things. Miss them, and you’re pulled back to the start. Again. And again.
With 80 unique anomalies scattered throughout the block, no two games are ever the same. Stay sharp - your survival depends on it.
To make it home, you’ll need every tool you’re given: an old phone that shows how many anomalies have been detected in the building—but not necessarily found. And an electronic anomaly detector. Wave it near radios, TVs, computers, or phones, and if it starts beeping faster and the numbers spike, you’ve found something… unnatural.
You’re not sure what’s worse - the things you’re seeing, or the feeling that you’ve seen them before. What if you’ve already made it home - and this is what it looks like now?

I enjoyed this game. Im not sure what the negative reviews were talking about. Its like they played a different game. I played this on stream and genuinely had a good time. I was confused when I reached the end since most anomaly games have an exit that makes the credits roll or take you back to the menu.... other than that, pretty standard anomaly game.
무서운 8번출구 느낌? 공포게임에 내성 없는 분들은 개무섭게 할듯 개인적으로는 8번출구보다 좋았던 게임임 지금까지 했던 이상현상 공포게임 중에는 가장 무서웠음
Strong Scares, Weak Anomalies
Sector 404 is a first-person anomaly horror game set in a crumbling Soviet housing block. After taking your medicine, your world begins to fracture. Climb from floor to floor, uncovering distorted anomalies and your own unraveling mind. Miss too much, and reality resets. Will you ever make it home?
Story
There is no real story here. Your objective is simple: reach your apartment.
Gameplay
Sector 404 is a first-person anomaly horror walking simulator built around spotting differences in a looping environment. If everything appears normal, you go up the stairs to the next floor. If something is off, you must go back down to progress. You can choose the difficulty by selecting how many correct loops you need in a row to win, either 10, 15, or 20 floors. There are 80 anomalies in total, which is a strong amount of variety. Once you’ve encountered an anomaly, it won’t repeat until you’ve seen them all. You can also reset your progress from the main menu. A cellphone tracks how many anomalies have appeared, but not how many you successfully identified. You also have an Electronic Anomaly Detector. This device can be used on TVs, radios, or PCs and if it beeps there is an anomaly there.
Environment & Scares
The game takes place inside a Soviet apartment building. Each loop consists of a stairwell and two apartments, each with several rooms that need to be checked carefully. Floor 0 is always clear. You need to learn the layout to understand what “normal” looks like. In each new loop, something may change, and it’s up to you to catch it. The atmosphere is very eerie and oppressive. Some anomalies are subtle and unsettling, while others lead to very effective jump scares that genuinely caught me off guard.
Visual Design & Sound Design
Your eyes and ears are crucial here. Most anomalies are visual, but some rely on audio cues. The ghost designs are especially unsettling, featuring white glowing eyes, long black hair, and unnatural features. Sometimes you only see a pair of eyes staring at you from the darkness, which is very effective. The apartments feel cluttered and lived-in, filled with shelves, furniture, carpets, clothes, books, plants, paintings, clocks, and countless small objects scattered throughout the rooms. Some anomalies introduce sudden changes in the audio, both loud and subtle ones. The radio might start broadcasting, a voice whispering behind you, or a ghost screaming. Some of these moments genuinely gave me chills.
Constructive Criticism
With two apartments, multiple rooms, and a large number of objects, it can be difficult to know what to focus on. The sheer amount of detail sometimes works against the game. For example, it’s unclear whether you should notice small changes like a single missing book or larger environmental shifts. This can lead to confusion rather than tension, and it often comes down to how patient you are as a player and how much time and effort you want to put into this game. After a while you realize that none of the anomalies can hurt you, which also takes away some of the tension. There is camera wobble in this game, and it can’t be turned off, which bothered me a bit since I’m not always a fan of that feature.
The Verdict
Overall, Sector 404 is a solid anomaly horror experience with a strong atmosphere and some genuinely effective scares. There is a good mix of creative anomalies, but many are either too subtle to notice, possibly due to the large number of objects, or too obvious. This uneven balance can make some loops feel uneventful. I would have liked an anomaly guide/list, but have not found one, because it’s difficult to fully judge the game when I missed many of them. It was with a bit of luck that I managed to beat 20 floors. That said, if you enjoy anomaly-style horror games, this is definitely worth trying. It delivers strongly on atmosphere and scares, but less so on the anomaly design.
Rating: 6.5/10
Pretty hard game... I don't know what I'm missing sometimes. Some anomalies are really obvious but others are near invisible. I've managed 15 floors so far. What makes it harder is the lack of guides. So you better have a photographic memory! The game keeps you on edge due to the jump scares which made me ♥♥♥♥ myself multiple times... Me auld mother almost had a stroke watching me play it as well. I'd say it's worth a couple of quid and provides a nice challenge.
