Something can be said for the value of ruthless and difficult games. However when I had to go through the opening cutscene and tutorial three times because opening the 'character' menu (which I'd expect to be full of helpful information that would allow me to know what my abilities do or when I'll level up, or even just a basic bio of Eli) softlocks the game, and there's no way to skip the opening (which takes nearly three minutes) or tutorial Lets just say, if you adore incredibly difficult games, stick with darksouls. No ability to respawn anywhere (I'd expect something like this to have a "Oh you've got X amount of hours, and if you lose a fight you have to rest for an hour" mechanic), confusing tutorials (you're fully healed after the first fight, which makes you think you'll be fully healed after every fight since there was no dialogue mentioning that you'd be fully healed after the first fight, so you waste all your mana in the next fight and then are screwed), a useless inventory system (I cannot check what items do or use them outside of combat, which makes healing items far worse), and a combat system worse than RPGmaker stock combat (oh there's a healing spell, we all know the drill, any other use of mp is objectively not worth it, except you can't see how much damage they do so its impossible to tell, and you have zero way to heal outside of combat so you need to be above half health at the end of a fight in order to be able to survive the next, etc.) Its just... so full of bad that I can't appreciate the good. Looked like it might have decent puzzles, but the subtitle is right, it *is* the hardest rpg I've ever played. Because I have taste. And its not a good game

I don't know if this team is ever going to release an update for this game since it was a college project, but if they do then here's some problems that hurt the game a lot: Unskippable 5 minute cutscene that plays every time you die Character screen softlocks the game Animation jank and unclear dodge mechanics (I can't tell if I'm not taking damage because of a bug or if they missed) You can't target multiple enemies with the mouse, you have to use keyboard to do that, just a minor inconvenience Soft locked during the first boss, I'm not sure if there's more after or not Can't use items outside of combat and no description for them No ability descriptions, bandage is obvious, but what's the difference between spit and insult? No clear level up system The first boss spams way too many enemy friends, maybe that's on purpose but it gets overwhelming quickly There's a foundation, and if you do decide to keep working on it there could be a solid game here. You just gotta make sure the game doesn't kill itself doing basic things and add some MAJOR qol things. I give a recommendation because I did enjoy when I actually got to fight, and I know what it's like to rush a game out for a final assignment since it's something me and some friends had to do. I do hope at least someone for this team sees this review and decided to fix some major problems, I don't see what Neumont wouldn't let students continue work on their games after whatever class.
School: The Hardest RPG in Your Life, bir lisede geçen küçük bir RPG oyunudur. Tüm derslerini geçmesi gerektiğini öğrenen Eli olarak oynuyorsunuz, aksi takdirde tüm yaz tatili boyunca Yaz Okuluna gitmek zorunda kalacak.
School: The Hardest RPG in Your Life is a student project from Neumont College of Computer Science. One of the first things students should be taught in game development is that 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid 1990's with dedicated 3D cards like the Voodoo3 and the ATI Rage. But the students were deliberately mistaught that's it's okay to release obsolete 2D games in the 3D era of gaming... certainly any professional developer seeing a prospective new hire who doesn't even know about 3D gaming probably isn't going to give them a job. Needless to say if an educational institution taught me incorrectly on purpose, I'd ask for my money back. This is a really poorly made, simplistic lightweight "I can't believe it's not RPG Maker" RPG with a theme around surviving school and passing classes or having to go to summer school instead of getting time off. A lot like the students here, who had to make a 2D game and then discovered their tuition didn't tell them that game companies don't hire developers who can't make games for the 21st century, which use 3D graphics. This is worthless in any student portfolio, and even more worthless for us gamers, who were never considered at any point up to and including the publication of this mess here on Steam. We also have to question what value there is for gamers on Steam when institutions flood the store with low quality 2D video game homework assignments... sure, it might make the students feel good about themselves, but this has no benefit for gamers who have to wade through this stuff to find professionally made 3D games. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. On pricing, this is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. There's no financial cost up-front, but you'd still be spending your time and a little hard drive space on a product that's far from the best. There's thousands of better alternatives on Steam.
Sadly this isn't it. The introduction that lasts an eternity is not skippable, and you'll have to go through it every time you die (because there aren't checkpoints). The fights feel bland and repetitive, there are no healthbars, the NPCs all use the same sprites. I didn't have fun at all, you simply have to spam the attacks basically. I went into it thinking it would have had something to do with school (such as fights that include operations or something) but it's simply the facade of it to cover the nothingness that this game is.
game just froze during a battle
how is there no reviews bro
Игра 'School: The Hardest RPG in Your Life' – это суровый, но до боли знакомый симулятор школьной жизни, обернутый в обертку RPG.

Great basic game. Had so much more fun than I thought. A few bugs, but it is an enjoyable short experience.
