About
We're still waiting for Valve to officially verify Scarlet Deer Inn, but we designed the game to work well on it.
ABOUT
Scarlet Deer Inn is an embroidered dark medieval folk tale. While life in a seemingly ordinary village is all about simple chores and idle gossip, sinister secrets hide below.

Beautiful hand-painted backgrounds and traditional animations crafted from physically embroidered frames.
A world filled with colourful characters.
Hidden shortcuts in the dark that make each playthrough easier.
Folk music inspired by the Middle Ages and performed on traditional instruments.
THE STORY
Elise is a mother of two. She is not exactly extraordinary, and there are no heroic epics written about her.
Her circumstances will force her to explore unusual places and face dark, terrifying situations.
THE TEAM
Attu Games is a husband-and-wife team from the Czech Republic. During the development of Scarlet Deer Inn, their duo expanded into a trio with the birth of their baby, bringing a whole new level of chaos to the process.
Skvělá suprová hudba, nádherná grafika a atmosféra, která vás nepustí až do konce.

Just for context, this is a first impressions review. I am yet to complete the game fully. So let's look at what I like and don't like. Pros: Visually beautiful I like the music Gameplay is enjoyable even if it's very simple Mostly bug-free (I had what I think was a bug with a text bubble once) Story is simple, but enjoyable, and honestly very dark Cons: Wall climbing/jumping can be iffy There is a point in the story that I don't like, since it takes away the urgency of the situation The price might be a bit too steep. I think that €15 would fit the game better Overall, I am enjoying my time with Scarlet Deer Inn even if I don't play this kind of game often. I've been following the developers for a while, and I want to support my fellow Czechs. If my opinion drastically changes after I complete the game, I will change the review. But as of now, I can recommend this game if you are okay with paying a little premium for the unique way this game was crafted.
I haven't finished the game yet but loving it so far. Beautiful art, great soundtrack and a story that finds a good balance between slice of life and disturbing
SOOOOO MUCH FUN!!!!! We loved the story, dialogue, gameplay, and obviously the unique artwork. The embroidery was a really cool direction. The little goblins were adorable. Great gameplay and great characters. Except Dorota. We couldn't stand her. We would definitely recommend this game. So good.
Pleasant, beautiful visuals and sounds. And that's all. No gameplay, just housewive's chores. Intro plot twist at first 10 mins and then you just waiting for the end. Not worth the money, should've refunded. Anyway, good luck with the next projects!
I love this game so much ! I am really surprised how good this game is, the storyteling the level desing the music everything !
I looked forward to this game with great excitement about the crafty graphics and folklore tales, but ultimately ended up disappointed with how heavily it leaned into the platformer genre at the sake of its storytelling and choices-matter potential. The setting is beautiful, the characters are diverse, the music is right up my valley, alas having played to the end, I feel very disillusioned. I found the game laid a disproportionate level of urgency on mastering the skill of surviving the dark of the caves, whilst the otherwise very real horror
of searching for your children, which are facing the possibility of a brutal death and sacrifice somewhere alone in the dark,
faded somewhere in the background. When out of nowhere,
seemingly an inch away from retreaving your children,
you find yourself on a series of fetch quests centred around another Slavic/Czech folktale item — as if included in the game to add a second folk element last minute — the urgency of your maternal situation dissipates entirely. The final boss fight (in no way did I anticipate an actual boss fight from this game's promo or demo) took me some two hours (over a quarter of my gameplay total) and clouded all my previous enjoyment of the game. Narrative-wise it leaves all to imagination, as the enemy goes straight into conflict, and the mechanics are ruthlessly unforgiving. I loved the moments when chase sequences synchronised with music, loved animated dialogue text boxes indicating accent or tremor in the character's voice, loved the art style of dialogue windows (rich character with a rich coloured fabric designed window, old character with the fabric tattered), loved being able to pet every sheep along the way. This game contains a lot of whimsy. Overall however, I felt more rage at the mechanical choreography of the cave chases and the final fight than I felt any sympathy or terror for my character— the emotions I actually expected to willfully suffer through when I turned the game on.
Recommended. Played through completely on Steam Deck. GREAT ON DECK! Scarlet Deer Inn blends several mechanics that work brilliantly together and keep you entertained the entire time. The color palette is amazingly pleasant, the hand-drawn art style and attention to detail are top-notch, and the embroidered textures combined with gorgeous animations are mind-blowing. The dialogue feels natural and lively, uses local dialects really well, and contains zero fluff. Musically, this is no repetitive background noise... it’s a fantastic score that works great even for standalone listening. The dynamic range and volume respond seamlessly to the environment, setting just the right mood, from gentle melancholy all the way to gloom and dread. For us players from Central Europe, the game is packed with nods to familiar motifs. References to local folklore like the Lady Midday (Polednice), the dark fairy tales of Karel Jaromír Erben, iconic Cinderella tropes, or classic local films pop up automatically. For international players, this will be a fascinating dive into raw Slavic folklore. I’ve been following this project since the very first concept art, and seeing it come to life like this is amazing. An easy 10/10 for me in the indie genre. This deserves nothing but glowing reviews!
