The graphics for the game are a great throwback to the era of classic NES / SNES RPGs. its animations flow smooth on even older systems than my main and the scenes are all very colorful from the town maps to dungeons to the overworld. Additionally, the soundtrack is great. Its all very mellow and reminiscent of the SNES RPGs. For being a first time game developer, it comes out strong on graphics and sound, but that is where the the pros of this game ends. The combat is very drawn out with every enemy being OP, most of them getting double hits per turn or counter. Additionally, the monsters are punching bags for abuse and go down after too many turns. After 10 hours into this game, I've grow bored with the anemic power progress against even the most mundane monsters. Which leads me to level progression. Spells and weaponry progression is useless compared to the monster HP, but even worse is the minute advances in HP and MP for characters. What use is a 20 HP increase when monsters do 150+ to 400+ damage. Heaven help you should a monster land a crit on you during a counter attack. In later stages, you'll have monsters that do triple attacks - all of which hurt bad and your recovery spells are garbage. Spell damage is worthless. The level up and mods to them are useless when it comes to monsters of higher levels. The single-target heal spell is pathetic as it heals maybe half the damage dealt by monsters in one round plus wastes a round. For stronger healing, you'll need to use the party heal which is expensive. On top of that, the "defend party" skill is hilariously useless. Only boosts def for a single round. Makes me think the dev is trolling players by keeping a strong character tied up playing defender instead of the party's priest / cleric. Attacks are useless unless using a single target spell. There is no description for the targeting of the spells and they go random making strategy useless. You might as well start throwing dice and betting on what monster is going to be hit. It would be nice to target as either party attack or multiple hits vs. single targets. Golden swing is the only attack that is worthwhile, but it's way too expensive to use except in dire cases or boss fights. Items are underpowered and overpriced. It's understood that items require currency, but the consumables pricing being on par with saving for a full set of equips for all characters is not just ridiculous, but makes the game more of a chore than enjoyable to play. The pricing scaling is bad and I'd consider reconsideration of it. Having to sit beside an inn and run there every battle or two gets old quick. A final problem with the game is the graphics freeze while the game plays on. Menus, items, spells and battles continue, but the screen freezes so you have no idea what's going on. Happens frequently in boss battles. I've restarted multiple times due to the game giving me the finger and suddenly locking the graphics screen. Even worse when you've been wailing on a boss for 15+ minutes, are almost to the end and the game decides it's going to ♥♥♥♥ up. Overall a game that starts out good, but quickly becomes a trial of patience and grinding while dealing with glaring flaws in mechanics, flow and progression. I'm sticking to playing with hopes of revising this review for the better, but it doesn't look promising. Will probably end shelving this soon.

Haven't finished yet but I'm enjoying the challenge! Lot's of fun dialogue between characters and unique world building. As someone who's played all the old Final Fantasy games 1-7, it's an enjoyable similar work in it's own anime-fantasy-like style. Don't forget to save often! like, you may want to even after every single fight!
G*psy is a slur and using it to set up a joke about them being hippies and calling the enemies "Free Spirits" is pretty cringe and tone deaf.
I definitely am hooked! The Story is beautiful. I love turn-based RPG games, so it fits quite the criteria. Savior of Light reminds me much of the old Final Fantasy and Legend of Zelda games. The music used for the game is also top tier!
Before I played Savior of Light , I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
RPG Maker strikes again! Savior of Light is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. As if RPG Maker asset flips couldn't get any more cringey, this garbage RPG Maker asset flip is all about the developers imaginary girlfriend/waifu, and wow, the writing is so bad this would get the "developer" bullied by the other dropouts in the high school anime club they kicked him out of. That's seriously how bad and how cringe this is. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Like most RPG Maker shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. RPG Maker is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers. This is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 7 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.
I got recommended by Facebook friends - Oakenai Six. (yes, she was my friend, not irl) She said that the game needs more tactic and strategy due to HARD and Challenging Difficulty as the game progress even further. So make sure you have perfect built and strategy, almost like other game like old RPG games. The graphic and OST is good. game-play is Challenging, so remember your moves and strategy to defeated the enemy. so i rate this game as 8/10 :) ((Also a Note: If need help, you need to chat to Oakenai Six on FB or Insta.))
It's very reminiscent of the first Final Fantasy game to me, which is pretty nostalgic. Considering this is a free demo experience serving as a prologue to the entire story there is quite a bit of content to enjoy. Savior of Light has that classic FF style of gameplay and combat mechanics. Balanced throughout the story line to pose a challenge without requiring too much grinding. Story, characters and the world are fun to explore. And the music might be actually my favourite part. I can't wait for this to continue. ^^ PS I supported SOL on Kickstarter. From knowing the creator's good taste and aesthetic, I believed there will be something good to come out of this. I'm certainly not dissapointed and looking forward to more.
I really hope you expand on this demo. It was a really enjoyable game it just needs a good finish.
