[b]samurai cat[/b] (no relation to [i]samurai pizza cats[/i], nor [i]samurai jack[/i], despite the protagonist's name) is set in my kinda future, one where most cats are gone. the situation inevitably leads to an abundance of mice and the formation of the titular organization by the remaining mouse catchers. the player has to find out what happened to the other cats while systematically culling infected rodents. there are [b]41 checkers-style levels[/b] unlocked one by one, meaning everybody can only move diagonally and over something. cheese acts as lure (more infected mice sporting a higher number have priority), shields as protection, and there are some other items later. there's a limited amount of them per level and the key is to position mice first, as you can't just stop midway through a killing spree, have to do the whole thing in a single chain of moves, otherwise it's game over. shields don't protect you directly, but have to be placed 'diagonally behind' your character, so mice can't dash to that tile, killing you on the way, causing another game over. it can also be used to stop more infected mice from moving, forcing lesser ones to do so instead, and it can even be replaced between mouse moves, unlike food, which is obviously consumed. stepping on a fan will push you or a mouse one tile in the direction its facing, and sushi is what spinach is to popeye or scooby snacks to scooby-doo, it makes you or a mouse more powerful with the ability to dash further, but moving through multiple enemies in one direction will only kill the first one. the final chapter mixes things up a bit. mid-spree adjustments are necessary sometimes and it involves some quicker clicking, but everything can be planned ahead, thanks to your 'cat sense' telling you where the boss will move after getting hit. the english translation is pretty bad, graphics are functional, music is okay but very repetitive. there are separate volume settings, windowed mode with a 1280x720 non-resizable window, and a level select screen. [b]no undo[/b] is always a problem, but it's mostly tolerable here and overall the game is [b]very good, plenty challenging and cheap[/b], definitely worth trying.

猫とネズミの詰めチェッカー。これをプレイする前提としてチェッカーの基本ルールを知っておかないと無理です。駒は斜めにしか移動出来ず隣接した相手の駒が一つだけならそれを飛び越えて移動出来（移動先でまた相手の駒が隣接していれば一手で何度でも移動出来る）、相手の駒を取れます。隣接した駒がゼロ、或いは二つ以上並んでいたらその場から動けません。チーズを置いてネズミ側の駒を先に全部動かして、猫が次の一手で全部のネズミを一気に取れる形にすればクリア。チェッカーなんてやったことがなかったのでなかなか難しいですが脳の鍛錬にはなります。アイテム使用でチェッカーのルールにない特殊な移動も出来ます。 ウィンドウモードが1280ｘ720で固定なのは4Kモニタでは不便なので拡大出来る様にするか解像度の選択肢を増やしてほしい。あとは一手ずつUndoが出来るようにしてほしい。間違えると最初からなのが面倒。実績を見るとゲームを起動した人が93.8％いるのにトレーニングの10問を終えたのが30.6％しかいないので、やはり難しい部類のゲームなんでしょう。

Just not my cup of tea

I like puzzle games, especially when it's Japanese style.

Samurai Cat ist ein Spaß für die ganze Familie, so wurde es mir zumindest versprochen. Allerdings endet der Spaß bei diesem Spiel mit der Nachrichtenzeile "und dann richtete er die Waffe gegen sich selbst". Ich würde dieses Spiel nicht mit irgendwelchen Verwandten spielen, denn das würde nicht gut ausgehen. Die einzelnen Stufen von Samurai Cat steigern ihre Schwierigkeit in einem unerhörten Tempo. Rotzt man sich gerade noch durch die ersten Stufen, zieht der Titel dermaßen rasch an, dass man gar nicht mehr weiß, wo vorne und hinten ist. Wenn man nicht gerade ein Logikgenie oder ein Programmierer ist, wird man mit großen Fragezeichen vor den Levels sitzen, sich das monotone Gedudel im Hintergrund anhören und seinen Monitor fragen, was man denn eigentlich machen soll. Neue Items werden nicht erklärt, es wird einfach davon ausgegangen, dass wir was damit anzufangen wissen. Man probiert sich durch die einzelnen Levels, kommt häufig zum Stillstand und sitzt eine gefühlte Ewigkeit vor manchen Rätseln. Es kann sein, dass für jemanden hier ein Traum wahr wird, aber nicht für mich. Ich finde das Ding frustrierend und wenig unterhaltsam.
