Saddle Up and Drive

The story revolves around your uncle, who likes to hit the bottle a bit too much and has fallen into debt. Now he needs your help to raise money before the bank takes his farm. He lends you his old pickup truck and tells you to take on the main job each day, handle some side jobs if there’s still time left, or go down the illegal path by visiting distilleries scattered around the map and delivering special syrup to a buyer. Everything is done by driving around in a car. You don’t have to worry about fuel, but there is a damage system that lowers your vehicle’s condition every time you hit something solid or crash into other cars. The pickup truck can take quite a bit of punishment, but driving all over the place can still be dangerous. Even though the map is mostly desert, you can still run into rocks and cactuses. However, the damage system and world objects are inconsistent. You can drive straight through electricity poles and trees without any effect, then suddenly lose condition when you brush against something else. The driving is arcade-style but very floaty, almost as if your traction is tied to ice skates that let you drift even on a straight road at full speed. The first thing you need to do is open the map and look for the red marker that shows the main job. The map is large but mostly empty, with only a handful of towns that consist of a few houses each. While the main map shows job locations, every town also has a smaller map that points out garages where you can repair your car, banks where you can store your money, and car shops where you can buy new vehicles. Repairs cost ten dollars for each percent of damage. Some side missions require you to have money before you can accept them, but a few of them pay far too little for the effort. The ambulance mission, for example, sends you across the entire map and back to the hospital for very little reward. The same goes for the firefighter mission, which takes place on a smaller map where you extinguish spreading forest fires and drive to a lake to refill your water. A better payout comes from syrup deliveries, though these attract the police. You can lose them by hiding in a barn or driving into a cornfield, but these spots are rare and easy to miss because they are not marked on the map. Outrunning the police is impossible since they spawn out of nowhere and try to ram you. Fortunately, your vehicle can absorb a lot of damage. The real problem is that if you get caught, you lose all the money you are carrying. The easiest way to earn cash is simply by completing the main jobs. Since every job can be replayed as many times as you want, it is easy to grind for money. The first job involves herding cows by driving close to them and using the car horn. However, you need to watch out for bulls, which will charge into your vehicle and cost you a thousand dollars each time. By comparison, herding a single cow only earns you one hundred. Each main mission remains available for one in-game day, which lasts quite a long time. A watch in the corner of the screen shows the current time. Since you do not need to sleep, you can keep playing missions until midnight, when a new day begins and a new main mission appears, such as delivering lumber. This cycle repeats throughout the seven-day loop. Everything else stays the same, and the game saves when you return to the main menu. When you continue playing, you can switch to any car you have already purchased. Overall, the game is fine but not eventful. The jobs become repetitive after a while, and reaching the main goal of earning one million dollars requires a lot of grinding, especially if you decide to buy new cars along the way or participate in racing events.

Decent potential, but incredibly unpolished in its current state. Absolutely no challenge posed by police or rivals whatsoever due to shoddy game design and mechanics. Movement is poor again due to undercooking with features missing or improperly coded causing issues. I cannot comment on performance due to the simplicity of the game and my hardware. Customers: Wait a good amount of time before purchasing for the game to be in a playable state. Dev: Put the game in alpha because this is nowhere near finished. I would be happy to point out specific issues I faced. If the game improves significantly, I will change my review to positive.

A fun little top down driving game, with some crazy car "rag doll". The AI is sometimes its own worst enemy and that also makes for good laughs here and there. Odd stuff just kind of happens at times and I think that's part of its charm. Most of the time being a "bad driver" and causing wrecks is just the way to go, and who doesn't like causing car accidents in driving games?

Saddle Up and Drive es un simpático y desenfadado juego de conducción isométrica (con perspectiva cenital inclinada) ambientado en la década de los 70, que te suelta en un enorme mundo abierto con total libertad. La Experiencia: Interpretas al sobrino temerario de un viejo conductor que tiene serios problemas de deudas. Tu objetivo es claro: conseguir dinero a toda costa para salvar la situación. Para lograrlo, el título te lanza a un gran mapa de unos 50 km² donde tú decides cómo ganarte la vida. Puedes ser un ciudadano ejemplar (transportando mercancías y ayudando a la comunidad), participar en competiciones legales, o meterte de lleno en el lado oscuro: organizar contrabando, correr en carreras ilegales callejeras y sobrevivir a brutales "derbis" de demolición. Eso sí, hagas lo que hagas, tendrás que mantener siempre un ojo en el retrovisor para evitar a la policía. Lo mejor: Libertad y variedad: Tienes muchas formas distintas de ganar dinero y una gran variedad de vehículos desbloqueables. Cada coche tiene sus propias características y físicas, por lo que tendrás que elegir el más adecuado según si vas a transportar cajas o a huir a toda velocidad. El ambiente: El tono del juego es muy ligero y cómico, capturando a la perfección la vibra de las clásicas películas de persecuciones de los años 70. El precio: Es un juego francamente económico que ofrece un mapa enorme y muchas actividades para echar partidas casuales. Puntos a tener en cuenta: Solo para mandos y 16:9: Los propios desarrolladores recomiendan encarecidamente jugar con mando para disfrutar del control de los vehículos. Además, como advertencia técnica importante, el juego está diseñado para funcionar exclusivamente en monitores con relación de aspecto 16:9 (como resoluciones Full HD, 2K o 4K estándar). Conclusión: Un juego indie de conducción modesto pero lleno de encanto y cosas por hacer. Si echas de menos los juegos arcade de coches con vista aérea y te apetece perderte por carreteras secundarias haciendo recados (legales o no), es una opción estupenda a un precio mínimo.
