Experienced on the Meta Quest 2
You can view my gameplay & initial impressions here: https://youtu.be/U33sElHcqMU This is a solid VR music rhythm game. The problem is that there are so many great VR music rhythm games out there. It's tough to stand out from the crowd unless you bring something unique or special, whether that's an interesting variation on the gameplay or overall polish. Saber Ship tries to incorporate an interesting variation on the VR music rhythm genre by adding ships that you destroy with your light saber. Some ships you only need to touch, others you need to strike, still others you need to hit perpendicular, still others you need to hit them on the X so that they all get destroyed. While there are some variations, and I haven't unlocked everything, so I don't know what the final form of the gameplay is like, what I have played so far is just solid, nothing genre-defining or even memorable. Saber Ship has varying difficulty levels which you unlock, which seems to bring new mechanics. There are, by my count, 32 songs included. The soundtrack is okay, it's really a hodge podge of songs and I was able to find some that I enjoyed. However, I also found some that I didn't enjoy. I did find some of the game's mechanics to be clunky, like having to spin around the front of the ship to avoid damage by pressing trigger and moving your motion controller in the direction of the intended movement (it seemed to work most, but not all the time). Game is running on the Unreal Engine 4. On my RTX 3080, I was getting steady 90 fps. I did not experience any serious issues or bugs. However, game lacked graphical settings and the only useful settings I found were for sound, language, & adjusting height. I did find the UI to be ugly. Also, I believe the tutorial could be much better at explaining things. Like I said, the VR music rhythm game genre is tough, because there are so many great VR music rhythm titles. This one is solid, but a notch or two below the top VR music rhythm games. I do think it is overpriced for what it is. It should be closer for $14.99 versus $24.99, only $5 less than Beat Saber which has better polish, gameplay, & soundtracks included.
