game could be fun but i dont really feel like playing it on a keyboard. add controller support? reminds me of a more polished old school flash game from the bit if played. the keyboard layout isnt fun for platforming.. for me at least but i do recommend giving it a try,

The main issue with this game imo are the controls. Controller support could've mitigated things. Besides that I enjoyed the soundtrack and what little of the first stage I could get thru. I'll still give it a thumb up as others may not have issue with the controls. Gameplay here: https://youtu.be/M37lrPodKTQ
Reminds me of Hollow Knight
Thousands of retro 2D platformers are infesting Steam, and "RuneShroom" is just more pollution in a crowded market of terrible games. There are over 17,000 platformers on Steam, literally thousands (you can go see for yourself if you search for the platformer tag on the store, I'm not kidding). And this is far from being one of the best of those. This is a really lame thematic ripoff of Hollow Knight but with about 2% of the visual quality and polish. Just like Hollow Knight, you're doing a bit of precision platforming and fighting underground mushroom/insect enemies... the insects are laughably poor copies of the bugs from Hollow Knight, it's obvious the developer was trying to ride someone else's coat-tails. This is focused more on precision platforming rather than narrative and Metroidvania type gameplay... which makes this even worse. The level design is unengaging, too... you need to deliver an incredible value proposition if you want people to play platformers in this decade. The platforming genre is pretty much obsolete... just a tiny number of professionally developed platformers exist on PC and offer any real value or interest to gamers (Silksong, etc). This is nowhere near being as good as Hollow Knight or Silksong. Even without a price tag, it's easy to see why gamers ignored this in favor of modern, professionally developed 3D games. This is offering nothing new or interesting, so it's easy to see why this failed. This looks a lot like it was designed for consoles, but released on Steam instead by mistake. While this is on PC, it has all the hallmarks and deficiencies of a console game, from the clunkier than needed control scheme to the less than cutting edge graphics. There's 10's of thousands of PC games on Steam, and PC gamers deserve only the best. This might not appeal to many gamers due to the lack of PC-centric design. It's unclear why this never made it to the video game console appliances it seems to have been designed for. Visually, this features mediocre hand drawn style "Baby's First Wacom Tablet" art instead of contemporary graphics. This obviously looks better than pixelcrap, but that's a really low bar to barely stumble over. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks worse than a professionally made game would look, and that's a major deterrent. Next is pricing and what value this has for gamers. Most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's usually some kind of monetisation, from nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, to any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. A peak of 3 concurrent players (according to SteamDB) for a "free" game is a disastrous public reception. Out of 130 million potential players here on Steam, almost nobody was interested. Even though this is "free". That level of rejection speaks a lot for the quality of the game. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? Pass on this one. There's no immediate financial commitment, but there are thousands of more compelling games on the platform that will give you a lot more enjoyment for your time. There are over 140,000 games on Steam, not every one of them is a hidden gem. I'm here to help gamers find the ones that actually matter in that sea of Steam Direct self-published mess. If you don't agree with my findings in this review, you should definitely download it and play it to see for yourself. I'm happy to have helped you make an informed choice, regardless of the outcome. You deserve the best.
Had no problems with the controls, had fun for the first two levels, but the sudden, inescapable darkness is a bit of a bizarre ending to a game.
