DEPTH BOSS CHALLENGE Demolish the monster in the depths in 192x144 resolution. Full screen must be disabled. Most unique achievement I've ever seen. The difficulty of this game is spot on. It's a Yes from me BOSS.
Good game
Visually decent The camera, camera shake, and aiming is insanely bad.
Pros 1. First of all, the guns are actually pretty cool. The rocket launchers shots are so powerful they rip through the floor to kill enemies youre not even aiming at. 2. Style. Okay, not exactly the prettiest game but i'll be DAMNED if it isn't cute. Aside from that though, i cant find anything positive. Cons: Ohohohoh, lads. There are plenty. 1. There is no tutorial, you're left to fend for yourself with not a single glimmer of instruction, NOT A SINGLE IMAGE to prompt you in the right direction. 2. The minigun. But wait, why am i leaving one gun as a con for the ENTIRE game? Well, have you ever taken LSD, and then gotten so drunk you started seeing 6 girlfriends instead of the 0 we all know you have? Have you then, after doing so, went on a drive through the middle of Toyko at midnight while there was a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ EARTHQUAKE happening? . . . Yeah that just about sums up the minigun in this game. 3. The enemies don't even have health bars so you're left guessing or just randomly one shotting them. 4. Speaking of health bars, YOU DON'T HAVE ONE EITHER! 5. Oh, you thought 4 was the only thing missing? YOU DON'T HAVE A POINT COUNTER. 6. Ha! You thought 4 and 5 were the only things missing? BUT IT WAS I, DIO ALL ALO- *cough* I mean you don't have mission objectives either. I would go on, but i just don't think a list of 10 cons vs 2 pros is fair to the creator of this game. Despite what i said about it so far i think it has great potential. First things first, SCALE THE SCREEN SHAKING. THE. ♥♥♥♥. DOWN. I'm not trying to have a seizure every time i shoot my weapon! Secondly, add a tutorial, i'm sure we all would like to know what the hell is going on. Third? Just... Health bars. Mana bars. Anything, literally anything to indicate when i'm going to die or not. That said, i would NOT recommend it. I would recommend you WORKED on it.
play it!!
I can't call Ruination "a good game", but from my perspective it's a nice $0.90 joke that shows how NOT TO make a platformer (even a rage game type). It's painful to play, and still some enthusiasts managed to finish it and kill the final boss (9.5% from all the buyers, according to Global Achievements list). Some of achievements are ridiculously hard to get (for example, "kill the second boss while playing in a 192x144 resolution window" or "kill the last boss using starter pistol only"), and if you still want to finish this game 100%, there's clearly something wrong with your personal life (please, go get help). This is a platformer that runs on ultra-high speed in windowed mode - just like in the trailer (though it gets slower in fullscreen mode), where we need to aim with mouse while the camera follows the mouse too, and the screen shakes after every shot, and after death we have to replay the whole level from the beginning, and all of this on maps that constructed like the maps of typical platformers - with fast enemies and one-hit-kill spikes and bossess - without taking into account the inconvenience of mentioned control scheme. I assume it's hard to believe that this game exists, but it's not a joke - it's Ruination. For me, it feels like a tongue-in-cheek art-project - an "anti-platformer" where enemies makes less problems than shooting (it's hard to navigate through the level when everything shakes), strange jumping mechanics (the character often jumps too high to get on a platform you need - game wants you to use "dash" mechanic to do it, but never teaches you how to use it, so you may find it only while looking in "Controls" menu) and ubiquitous deathtraps, after which you need to restart the level straight from the main menu. With all of this, skilled player can finish almost every of 12 levels less then in a minute - there is not much content in this game, but it do everything it can to stretch the gameplay time, turning the walkthrough into a rage-fest in a process (and it seems like it was done intentionally). You see, Ruination is not a typical rage-game with simple controls and hard maps where you need to know the perfect timing of moving platforms and perform precise jumps to avoid death. It's a rage-game that tries to sabotage player's walkthrough through inadequate camera movement and sometimes unresponsive controls - that's why death in it feels like something undeserved, like something that have no connection with skills you got while playing another platformers and "fair" punishment for the mistake in timing or planning trajectory of the jump. If Ruination costed $3.99, like Bryan Adley's Numbers (another one "anti-game" that tries to make player believe that it's playable but on practice becomes completely unbearable), I will never recommend it to anyone, even to the fans of rage games like Cat Mario. But for $0.90 - it's a fun way to spend a hour while playing one of the most "unfair" rage games I saw on Steam. Verdict: platforming rage-game that violates main principles of a typical platforming rage-game. The controls are clunky, the camera moves like crazy and shakes after every shot, the speed of character's movement is too high, but the levels constructed in a way that they would cause no problems to player if controls, camera and character's speed was fine. This is truly original take on rage-games and even a great post-modern joke, but don't buy it if you search for a "good game". It feels better as a witty "art-project" that depicts truly unbearable platformer which neglects every rule in the book.
