A roguelike twist on Breakout, just like you remember with a thick coat of 80s slathered on top. It's fast, it's juicy, it's vapourwave, it's small, it's Roguebreaker! How many bricks will you break in this arcade game?

About
Growing up, I spent most of my summers indoors playing video games, trying to beat that one final level, trying to get just a bit better and beat my own high score. Roguebreaker is my love letter to that time of my life, when you could just lose yourself in a colorful world for a little bit. Beat a level, unlock a new upgrade, and repeat. It's a small, simple game designed to be played in a short sitting, just long enough to zone out and have a good time for a few minutes and relax. I hope you're able to feel a little bit of that as you play. If not, I'd be happy to hear why and what I could do to make it that much better for you.
Thanks so much for giving it a shot!

Break enough bricks and you make a choice between two upgrades. Beat 10 levels and you've got a totally different set of upgrades compared than the last run.
Each level is randomly chosen from a preset pool, so you have a general understanding of what's next, but you can't be sure.
The higher your score, the faster the ball. The more balls you get the more fun you have. It's simple.
Restarting a run means totally different handcrafted levels and a unique set of choices to make.

Break bricks like nobody's business. Hearty bricks, moving bricks, pickup bricks, innocent bricks, it's got bricks for days.
It's got all the pickups you can imagine. Multiballs, extra speed, extra score, extra style, extra fun. Too much fun though and things get hard, be careful.
After you beat a level, you choose an upgrade, go slowmo, suck the ball back to the paddle, fire missiles, tilt the board and bounce the ball, it's great. If you game over though, you start from scratch.
The more you play, the more you unlock, the more you understand, the better you play.
After mastering all 20+ of my handcrafted levels you can start adding your own. Just create a map and drag it into the custom maps folder and you're good to go.

Pros: -It feels so good to get upgrades at end of every level but they aren't overpowered. -The combination of intense music and visuals keeps you entranced and focused. -Large variety of powerups and effects. -Just plain fun! Cons -I'm not at the top of the leaderboards. (yet)
Great game, perfect art and aestethics. Challenging but not unfair in any way, love it will definitely be one of my go to games when I need a break!
I enjoyed playing this game, it's been a while since I played a brick breaking game. Roguebreaker incorporates some interesting levels and new mechanics. I was pleasantly surprised to find that a few times I know I missed the ball, but the back of the paddle caught it and kept it in play. Cool :)
If you've had the pleasure of growing up with Breakout clones throughout your life like I have, you know that games like this are a dime a dozen. In the course of my lifetime, I'm pretty sure I've played over a hundred different versions of Breakout. And there really aren't a whole lot of differences between clones. Breakout hasn't changed much at all since its initial iteration in 1976. This game is no different. Essentially, it's just a reskin of a game that came out over 40 years ago. That being said, this is the best Breakout clone I've ever played. The graphics are what set Roguebreaker apart from over Breakout clones. This is the only version of Breakout I've ever played that was actually pleasing to look at. But whether you feel the same way depends on whether you got really into the whole 80's aesthetic after the release of Hotline Miami. If you like piña coladas and racing down neon-lit streets in a Lamborghini going 88 mph, this is the Breakout clone for you. My only complaint is with the music. The soundtrack in this game is INCREDIBLE. Unfortunately, you might not get the chance to enjoy it because of a glitch that causes music tracks to play on top of each other. It's annoying, but that's why it's called Roguebreaker, not Dealbreaker. Anyway, yeah. Best Breakout clone ever.
Pros: Soild game play, great aesthetics, great music Con: Not really a rogue
This is a superb take on the venerable Breakout genre. The pixel graphics are really well done, and the game mechanics - choose a bonus to keep permanently after every board, most of which are useful; lots of extra bats to balance the insane ball speeds - are well judged. However, I won't be devoting many hours to this, sorry to say. I play several Rogue games: they all save your game when you quit, as long as you are still alive. I do not have all day to enjoy Roguebreaker, and anyway prefer short sessions on many games. Buy this game if Breakout is one of your secret pleasures. Prepare to put the hours in, if you want a decent high score. I'll console myself with Ionstorm 2 - equally insane ball speeds, but at least it saves your progress.
An amazing little brick breaker offered here for a phenomenal value at under a buck: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERZD3jFJ6y0 Well worth your money and my first impressions score of a 9.5 which is bumped up by the fantastic value!
This game is both highly underrated and a hell lot of fun. Definitely worth the 3 bucks.
A good example of a small cheap indie game done right. The game mechanics work perfectly fine. The art is original (and may I add I am a sucker for that particular art style). There isn't all that much content... but for the price it is okay.
Mechanically is pretty good! Well made level design and ramping difficulty. Could use a hand in UX though. I would really like to see a remake or expansion. 7.5/10
