THIS GAME HAS RECENTLY RECEIVED ITS "2.0" UPDATE AT THE TIME OF WRITING! I originally checked this game out about a year ago because I like roguelites, and the theme of the game was something I'd like. It was fun to play for a bit, but didn't have much past the basics. However, with the new update, this game is showing its promise! With an in-depth upgrade system and more complex combat alongside this game's core, this became has become far more interesting. I'll be following the game's development closely, and you should give Roguebot a try!

"Roguebot" is something that comes across as more of a tech demo or a student project than a fully fledged game. It's a repettive procgen hell game with no content (and not to be confused with Roguebot, the C64 retro game by Doctor Wombat). What do you do in the game? The game takes place in a dystopian steampunk future, where you control a small robot battling enemies in three different biomes. You collect equipment modifications and abilities while plodding through endlessly samey, repetitive procgen levels. The graphics in this game are passable, but could be better. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. The developer chose not to do the job of a real game developer and create meaningful bespoke levels, narrative based gameplay progression and so on. Instead, they decided that "Procgen IS content!" and lazily tried to use procgen algorithms to create infinite, samey, repetitive, soulless levels, because that's a lot less work. As a result of this poor decision, the game gets tired and repetitive almost immediately. Developers must learn that procgen is a terrible substitute for creating real content. It should not be used as "ez-mode" for content creation, as the developer tried to do here. On pricing, this is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 10 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. There's no financial cost up-front, but you'd still be spending your time and a little hard drive space on a product that's far from the best. There's thousands of better alternatives on Steam.
Roguebot hızlı tempolu bir Roguelike nişancı oyunudur. Tüm insanların öldüğü distopik bir steampunk gelecekte geçiyor. Ana karakter, diğer tüm robotları kontrol eden kötü bir yapay zekayı yenmelidir. Yükseltmeler alarak roguebot'un yapay zekası daha akıllı hale geliyor. Düşman makinelerinin mağlup edildiğinde düşürdüğü farklı silahları ve eklentileri kullanabilir.
it's a really simple roguelite. honestly, for a free game it aint that bad... just very repetitive. been trying to pass level 20, but the RNG really starts to mess with you past level 10. why? because the dash is on a 4+s timer, and because of the way the ennemies work. Essentially you're too slow and sluggish to go brawling. and even with the (very hard to get) tier 3 weapon and mod, you find yourself lacking in dps... unless you're using ricochet and are just filling every corner with lasers, bullets or rockets... add to that that the game runs very, very narrow hitboxes and it gets tedious fast. so yeah. not downvoted because free. really badly needs 2 new ennemies and more weapons/mods...
This is a super basic game so far. There are 3 ammo types and 3 weapon mods available to choose from that I saw (With 3 levels to each one). There are I think 3 different enemy types. And it's lacking a lot in level design variation as well. But it is a good starting point for a game I would say. It just needs more variety in the ammo and mods and level design as well as some other upgrades you can pick up, like maybe temporary move speed boosts or temporary damage buffs or things like that. And the movement issues with you getting stuck on little boxes instead of just continuing to move along them until you are past them needs to be addressed. It's not a great game yet, but it has potential to be really fun. I enjoyed the hour I put into it. And I hope the devs will continue working on it and adding to what they have here. It's free, and if you wanna kill an hour or two then this is great for that in it's current state.
Really fun game. Has alot of potential, but some really frustrating hitboxes as well as bugs.
incredibly basic game that feels like it was made in the context of a gamejam. The movement is a slow walk without any running or dodging mechanics as far as I know. The only rpg or roguelike elements are different weapons and mods to put on them. I only saw two weapons and two different mods, idk how many there are. The final boss (I assume it is) is just a reused regular enemy that fires faster and has more health, which is placed in a room with very little space to move in so it's just a game a luck. The movement is very poorly handled, when you touch a wall your character just stops instead of using the resultant movement, so you don't keep moving, instead you just stop there until you change direction. The controller support is handled by Unity's basic mouse emulation it seems. When aiming at an enemy it's hard to judge where the mouse position relates to the enemy position. Sorry this may seem like a harsh review for a free game but it seems to be a project the developer(s) sort of cares about so I'm just offering some criticism to help make the experience better if it does get updates.
Great little game, lore being slowly revealed as you progress and reflective of what you've done. For how short it is pack a lot of different ideas into it. And in the end you have to do it:
Break the cycle.
Pretty cool little roguelite! I like a lot the music and some of the upgrades (ricochet ftw!). I wish the rockets made sound upon explosion, other than that a nice game to spend a while.
