(Early Access Review. As an early access release, you may experience bugs, content, interface and optimization changes. If you are not excited to play the title in its current state and to help support the title to full release by reporting bugs and requesting additional content, you may want to wait for further development). Introducing Rodent Warriors: A sensational pixelated maze runner. Take control of your rodent warrior & battle hoards of animals from spiders to elephants; as you progress you will unlock other rodent warriors, each with their own abilities. You will enter each maze with a set quest to earn your prize. As you play you will collect materials from slain enemies for crafting, which allows you to upgrade your equipment at a steady pace as you play. These can also be upgraded with symbols you receive for beating some enemies. You will also collect the bones of the fallen, which are used in upgrading one of your four attributes. You will want to choose these wisely; as you progress through each level the animals become increasingly stronger. Low on health? A health upgrade will raise your max health and refill it instantly. Perhaps you need to increase weapon power instead, or increase your critical shot chances, or decrease the time for your powers to reset. Make your way through the mazes checking every area for containers of magic juice that will increase your power levels on one of your stats depending on its color. You are now prepared, it's time to battle! Released on Feb 8, 2019, by the developers Kevin Smeltzer, Azucena Nuñez & published by Rodent Warriors, this is a 2D, retro, pixel graphic, action, rogue-like, RPG. It is the developer’s and publisher’s first release on Steam. There are 6 playable characters, each with different abilities; you start out playing as the mouse and unlock the others as you play. Death may be the end for your present character. With every death, stats are added to your new characters, according to which one you are playing at the time of death. Engaging gameplay against a slew of critters that are out to get you as you find your way through the mazes. The cutest background audio ever of all the critters in the game. With a gear-crafting system that allows constant upgrading, infuse your gear with symbols to increase their stats. In strategy mode you can customize the gameplay to suit your taste (additional features for this are still being added). Along with 6 skills you will unlock as you level, which require mana and have timed usage. There are currently 50+ enemies (including bosses), with 7 quest areas to play through. With much more content planned, you are sure to get plenty of bang for your buck here! For Settings. There are not a lot. The basics are covered with a sound and music slider, fullscreen/window, language selector (currently only English), and the keyboard configuration, which is re-bindable. There is no reset to default in the keybinding configuration though. You will find the quit button here as well. Impressive indie game for being early access, with a fair amount of content already in the game, and lots more still to come with updates. I have had a lot of fun during my time with the title. It is a somewhat challenging title at times; I would rate it between casual & difficult. I simply adored all of the animals in the game; for a pixel title they are all done quite well. And those cute noises they make in the background was a wonderful addition to the title; I rather enjoyed listening to them as I played. It doesn't take too long to get used to the mechanics of the title. It did take me a little while to get used to how the navigation worked in the mazes. Once I grasped how it worked it was a lot easier to manoeuver through them, of course. The RPG elements and questing are cleverly designed, along with the crafting and XP systems. I still have lots of game time to go before I finish the title. There is a lot of gameplay for the price. It also has plenty of replayability. If the title is of interest I would recommend you pick it up while it is in early access, the developers have stated that the price will be rising as more content is added and it reaches full release. Rodent Warriors: Engage Yourself in the Rodent War! Battling against the Animal Kingdom through a Series of Mazes 8/10 Pros +Impressive Pixel Art +Fun Gameplay +Fair Price Line Cons -No Controller Support (In Progress) -No Trading Cards -No Achievements (In Progress)
Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes. Early on I found the game to be rather frustrating, and at times I still do, but in general this game is fun and has a hell of a lot of potential. Also I have round that the dev is willing to chat with you one on one to talk about the game, make suggestions, etc and that resonates a lot with me. The tips the dev has given me has been giving later runs for me a lot easier to unerstand and is starting to make the game more enjoyable. Thumbs up so far & I can't wait to see where these games goes from here. Good luck! :)
If you check my reviews you will find out the most of them are negative. But it will not happen here :) I really enjoy this game even in early access state. Game is easy to understand, you can feel a progress and enjoy finishing more and more difficult dungeons. If you are looking for simple roguelike game where you will not cry after dead - i can recommend Rodent Warriors. Cya in dungeons rats ;D
The dark souls of kid-friendly games Developed by Kevin Smeltzer and Azucena Nuñez and being published under the game's title: Rodent warrior, this roguelike kid-friendly game really is a work of art from the game art to the music. The two developers seem to be very small but very interactive with the community they have a website and a discord group although the discord isn't listed anywhere as addition the discord seems to very much be dead but if you want to come into contact with the developer on a more personal note it's still a good idea to join their discord (https://discord.gg/hUvQ55K) as for the updates they seem to have halted beforehand there were updates on a weekly basis sometimes even a day after another but now it has been almost 2 months since the last one but then again they are a very small team they do however still seem to be taking feedback into account and also seem to have a big plan laid out for this early access title on their steam page it is stated that they will only be going out of early access when it's done which is maybe in a year time. they also stated that they think that the game is complete but they're not satisfied yet thus they keep it in early access. As for the pricing it currently cost €8,19 (Roughly $9,14/£7,18) they seem to be planning to gradually raise the price when they add new content and features. I talked with one of the developers and they told me that they're still working on the game but had been sick then he went on to apologize for the lack of content and said that he hopes new content to be out soon Gameplay The game is very fun but very hard you die very fast and you lose almost everything but every time you do you do get some better stats next character so it becomes more and more easy every time you die the game is as said before rogue like meaning you go through randomely generated levels with a turn-based fighting system and permanent death the game has fully pixelated graphics and an ai system to aid you, for example, you can let the ai walk, fight or choose what to craft for you and depending on your choices with the ai this game can go from a simple fighting game into a visual novel or a game to play when also doing work etc. The game is very kid friendly with enemies not spilling out blood and everything being pixelated visually wise the game is perfect to give to your nephew's next birthday the story itself is not bad definitely not something original but at least not bad. The combat can be quite weak from time to time with a horde of enemies usually only attacking one by one whilst your getting hit by a ranged enemy can be quite frustrating. As for the enemy types, it's a good variety, not too many different types but not too many the same either the bosses are a real challenge in the game just when you think that things are getting easy the boss will put you right back in your place. The world is quite big and offers a bunch of biomes to explore although the map layout never really seems to change just the biome Personal Statements The music is something I really enjoyed as well as the leveling system and the ability to let certain parts be taken over by ai I would definitely recommend picking it up for either you or you're kid the combat does, however, need a bit of improvement I have had to fight several enemies which can resurrect each other at once which can be very tiring seeing as they can resurrect each other as well the cycle repeats and repeats until eventually your either dead or have beaten them the map system is nothing too fancy although the being able to see how far an enemy is from you and have all the information about that enemy is a welcomed addition. Tagline This time I'll get past the first level trust me I can feel it. Score 7/10 Pros & Cons +Music +Controls +Enemy variety -No achievements or trading cards -Tiring combat -No map variety
First off, this is most likely the only thing I'll ever state this: "removal of keybinding for controllers is a very good thing" The thing with the above statement is that it only had the Unity engine place holders "front face button 1" for instance. The dev. contacted me as he wanted to know what I didn't like with the game, therefore I played it again to be able to help him out a bit more. Playing it some more I realized how much fun the game was, it is a very simplified version of a rogue light, maybe rogue light is a bit wrong even... It's a Battle RPG with rogue light elements - in that you carry benefits with you on your progression into your next game and that you may unlock new fighters for your next game. The gameplay is very basic; move left-right, hit one button for attack (there are additions as well regarding skills,but...) and "A" to switch up'n'down into the new left/right in the maze that you're stuck in. It's quite brutally hard but it's hard due to being easy... What I mean is that when you start a round it's so easy to mow enemies down that you forget to check the health of the player character and get slaughtered by your own ignorance. The dev. also cares about this game a lot, try it out, "the refund button is over there", please don't do what I did, move just a little bit further and you'll find a very enjoyable game...with really nice music.
Rodent Warriors is a 2D ARPG Roguelite:

You move along the dungeon in a single line at any given time moving up and down to "rotate" your movement along the dungeon grid.
There's lots of randomized loot, crafting, and enemies have universal traits that dictate what they do along with random modifiers for tougher ones.
You start over on death, but do progress future characters' stats, gear, and knowledge in the in-game diary.
So far, so standard, but what makes the game really stand out to me is the level of charm the game has from the sound effects and soundtrack to the visuals and story of the rodent kingdom trying to take over the world. There's a running theme of how everything is cutesy and lighthearted in contrast to just how violent and grim the premise is when you take a step back. If you need references to other media to get a good picture, think of Dungeons of Dredmor meets Happy Tree Friends with a hint of Rogue Legacy. My only gripes with the game are minor things like the occasional misspelling, how the character class select theme doesn't loop properly by fading into the background and then replaying from the start at full volume, or how the Necromancer disappears for a frame during his pickup animation. I also take issue with how the epic bosses (final boss of dungeon) are structured in that they are too easy to cheese, no pun intended. If you are playing someone like the Rogue or Wizard, you can easily bypass them if they are blocking the way and run into a different corridor to regenerate health and mana. Out of combat regeneration is necessary for clearing the dungeon and exploration, but I think it would be best to make these encounters a type of "do or die" situation. The epic bosses should follow players through changes in direction and force the player to be in combat as long as they are alive. The game isn't at 1.0 yet despite being officially released. Normally, this would worry me, but given that the game is fully functional from start to finish, I would still recommend it to friends even if it never receives an update from here on out. ..but hopefully it does. :)
Fun, addictive, full of potential. You have several characters that accumulate permanent bonuses for all classes upon death. You get stronger over time. 100 Steam achievements so far. Highly recommended game.
Honestly, one of the best games I have ever played. Absolutely amazing 10/10. I implore anyone to give it a try you for sure won't regret it, I didn't.
Un titolo ingannevole, troppo semplice ad un primo sguardo disattento e forse un filo eccessivamente lento nel rivelare il pieno potenziale, che invece diverte e stupisce con una profondità inizialmente inaspettata!
