Experienced on the Oculus Rift
So apparently this was made by a group of French students in a game jam. I think that's awesome. Unfortunately, I can't give this a positive or even a neutral recommendation. I know, I feel awful doing this. However, I wouldn't be any kind of reviewer if i just gave every feel good story on Steam a "yes thumbs up." The truth is that I didn't have any fun at all, playing any of the 4 mini-games. Also, the game ran rather poorly on my 1060 GTX (minimum specs). The interactions were basic. The mini-games just lacked any kind of depth. The best one was probably the firework one, where you throw discs at targets and then shoot a firework-throwing crossbow at the rings you made. The worst one was probably fighting the mage with your spells ... or throwing axes at the rocks in a mini-TD type game .... or guiding a rock into the goal by using the spikes and throwing bombs around. Yeah, I have a hard time picking which one was worst. It's running on the Unreal Engine. The main hub actually looks very nice. That's probably the best part of this game. Unfortunately, you only have teleportation. No smooth or snap turning. It was free. Despite my negative review, nice job by the student devs. Mini-games just need a bit more polish & depth for this to be recommendable. And please don't take my criticism too harshly, you guys did good given your constraints on time & resources. Making good VR game is more difficult than any other game type. Trust me, I know, there are a plethora of very bad VR games out there. I think you guys have a bright future if you keep putting in the work. Rate 4/10.

A student made game from "Objectif 3D", the game designer training school in France, specialty in training students to make games using Unreal Engines. Aparently the school tried to showcase one of each "genre" in games... this one here is a VR game which shows a bit of originality of the students idea and some good looking cutscenes... but that's just it. The rest of it feel dull and lack of game playability yet again... i am starting to doubt the quality of the teachers now...
Rockytown is a free VR game with 4 mini-games. It worked on my HTC Vive, Quest 3 via Steam Link, and Index system. looked ok, played ok, sounded ok, was understandable. There are four mini-games: – Throwing of axes – Firing of fireworks – Battle of magicians – Rescue of Richnous on ice. This was made by a group of French students in a game jam. The lobby looked pretty good. Try it and delete it.
The Games is descent, made by a student in 3 months from what I can see. I will be returning for a couple of the mini-games that I liked. Its free so there is nothing to lose, I did a quick play-through if you wanted to have look at what it is like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2WvEVAMHRs&feature=youtu.be
"Rockytown" is another student project from Objectif 3D, this time a selection of VR exclusive minigames. It does raise the question of why some game dev schools feel it necessary to use Steam as a dumping ground for student assignments, especially when the students didn't all pass the course. In this case I suspect they probably got a passing grade, but the resultant product of their assignment still isn't a game I'd suggest people play... there's that old adage: "If the only thing that makes your game cool is VR, then your game isn't cool at all." That certainly holds true for Rockytown... this feels more like a tech demo than anything you might want to get your teeth into. The graphics in this game are passable, but could be better. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? This is a "maybe" experience... if you have a lot of free time on your hands and nothing else to do, why not? But for the purposes of a review, this isn't something I can say everyone must try. It's not quite there. Valve doesn't give us a "maybe" option in reviews, but if they did, that's what I'd choose for this.
Really fun 30 minutes to an hour of content. It was a nice and simple game. Everything about it is really interesting. Do be warned, the red rock makes you leave the game. It says "EXIT" on it, I was dum and didn't read it and I touched it.
Before I played Rockytown, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
