Rock Bottom

Fun little incremental with well designed cast of characters and a decent diversity in biomes. Progression works well for the most part, (there are a few stages that feel a bit grindier than others), but all in all a great little vibe game. Love the MC design with the cute little steampunk look that works well for the world, (how true gobbo’s should be). A small random effect near endgame gives it a reason to keep collecting coins. All in all, a fun game; I’d rate it bedrock out of lanterns; would mine again.

Deutsch: Rock Bottom hat mich insgesamt positiv überrascht. Die Spielzeit von etwa 4–6 Stunden ist angenehm gewählt und zieht sich nicht unnötig in die Länge. Der Grind fühlt sich gut ausbalanciert an – man hat immer Fortschritt, ohne dass es frustrierend oder zu repetitiv wird. Ein kleiner Kritikpunkt ist der fehlende Ultrawide-Support, der das Spielerlebnis etwas einschränkt. Außerdem ist die Story eher schwach und bleibt nicht wirklich im Gedächtnis. Allerdings muss man fairerweise sagen, dass bei einem Spiel dieser Art die Story ohnehin nicht im Mittelpunkt steht. Unterm Strich ein solides und spaßiges Erlebnis, das vor allem durch gutes Gameplay überzeugt. ______________________________________________________________ English: Rock Bottom pleasantly surprised me overall. The playtime of around 4–6 hours is well chosen and doesn’t feel unnecessarily stretched. The grind is nicely balanced – you’re always making progress without it becoming frustrating or too repetitive. One minor downside is the lack of ultrawide support, which slightly limits the experience. The story is also rather weak and not particularly memorable. However, to be fair, the story isn’t really the main focus in a game like this. All in all, a solid and enjoyable experience that mainly shines through its gameplay.
