I really like this game, I never finished it though. As of now, I am trying to finish but I found a save glitch in the game. If you save at Roah house for me it can break the save file(I believe this was fixed, but if not avoid the plushy chair). If you try to load it, then it simply will not load. I found a work around , use the blue crystals to save. I play this on Proton but I encountered this bug on Windows as well. This is a good game from what I can tell, and I am not sure if I am the only one suffering from this bug. I do recommend this game because I am a fan of the Developer and I enjoyed Wings of VI. Edit: After Playing this game hardcore on Ubuntu Linux, I manage to beat this game on Grand Master mode on my first attempt to beat the game. The game is really fun and very challenging. Their seems to be more then one way to beat the bosses. The levels are truly challenging but not as hard as wings of vi which I actually do enjoy because not every game needs to be as hard as wings of vi. I understand all the complaints about the game ,but keep in mind their is only one devs at the time of launch. At the time , I played this game at 2023 when I started and completed early 2024, I think the game is Fantastic. The map was a little hard too follow but in the end, I never felt like most bosses were unfair. I like the design of the character , the game play is now solid as of 2024 Grand Master mode. For all purposes this game is golden. The only thing I wish could improve is easier to follow map system and maybe a little bit more lore for the character. I give this game a 8 out 10! The Dev does hear you out if you go to the discord, not very many devs will do this. I am inspired by this developer.
Game that is designed to be no hit, the only weakness my will.
Great game with a unique and fun combat system. The bugs are hardly noticeable unless sought after. had a blast playing this game.
I played this near release and it was extremely buggy and unfun. Decided to try it again because I felt it had promise and Wings of Vi is one of my favorite games. It's definitely a lot better now. Still some bugs and some jank, but overall the basic fun of the game is shining through now. It's not quite the same kind of game as Wings of Vi. It's a bit more of an open Metroidvania, though a bit more unrefined in its world design than other standouts in the genre. Combat system is a bit haphazard, but is unique and interesting once you get the hang of it. Bosses are fun, but their design is not nearly as tight as Wings of Vi, likely due to the different combat system. Okay, that sounds a bit harsh, but it's a very unique game, and there's something to it that you can't really get anywhere else, warts and all. I can't really put it into words, but it just has a certain game design magic. Overall, if you liked Wings of Vi you should give it a shot in its current state. I'd recommend waiting for a sale, $24.99 still feels a bit expensive for what it is. ** I also don't really understand the purpose of the limited save system. Is it supposed to be a currency sink to buy crystals? Some bosses even have another save point nearby so the limit can be replenished forever for free, you just have to walk back and forth, merely wasting the player's time. Why not just make it unlimited?
Roah is an ambitious 2D action-platformer that blends demanding movement, expressive combat, and open-ended exploration into a tightly focused indie experience. Developed and published by Grynsoft, the game places players in the role of Roah, a determined warrior tasked with saving her world from a mysterious force that is steadily draining its life. Rather than relying on heavy exposition, the game allows its setting and challenges to communicate the stakes, drawing players into a journey that feels personal, dangerous, and consistently engaging. From the outset, Roah establishes itself as a game that values precision and player mastery. Movement is tight and responsive, demanding careful timing and spatial awareness as players navigate platforms, hazards, and enemy-infested areas. The level design encourages exploration, with a large interconnected world that gradually opens up as new abilities are unlocked. Backtracking is a meaningful part of progression, as previously unreachable paths become accessible, rewarding curiosity and careful observation rather than forcing a strictly linear route. Combat is one of the game’s defining features, standing out from many other platformers in its depth and flexibility. Instead of relying on simple attack patterns, Roah’s fighting system incorporates a variety of moves, combos, and techniques that allow players to approach encounters in different ways. The influence of fighting games is evident in how combat flows, with an emphasis on timing, spacing, and deliberate input. As new skills are unlocked, players gain greater control over how they engage enemies, turning combat into an evolving system that grows alongside the player’s mastery. Boss encounters serve as major highlights throughout the adventure. Each boss is distinct in design and behavior, requiring players to study patterns, adapt strategies, and execute movements with precision. These battles are often demanding, pushing players to their limits and reinforcing the game’s reputation for difficulty. Victory feels genuinely earned, and boss fights often mark important turning points in both gameplay progression and the emotional arc of the journey. The game’s difficulty curve is intentionally steep, catering to players who enjoy challenging experiences that test both reflexes and patience. Mistakes are punished, and success often requires repeated attempts and learning from failure. While this level of challenge may be intimidating for some, the inclusion of a more accessible mode helps broaden the game’s appeal without undermining its core design philosophy. Players are given the choice to engage with the game on their own terms, whether seeking a punishing test of skill or a slightly more forgiving adventure. Visually, Roah embraces a hand-drawn, stylized aesthetic that gives the world a distinct identity. Environments vary widely in tone and structure, from hostile underground regions to more open and vibrant areas, each populated with unique enemies and environmental challenges. While the art style is expressive and atmospheric, the game does occasionally show signs of technical roughness, such as inconsistent animations or collision quirks. These moments can be frustrating in a game that demands precision, but they are generally outweighed by the strength of the overall design. Narrative elements are woven subtly into the experience, allowing players to piece together the story through environmental cues and progression rather than explicit storytelling. This approach reinforces immersion and keeps the focus on gameplay, while still providing a sense of purpose and emotional weight to Roah’s journey. The world feels lived-in and threatened, making the struggle to save it feel meaningful even without constant narrative exposition. Ultimately, Roah stands as a confident example of indie game design that prioritizes depth, challenge, and player agency. It does not attempt to cater to everyone, instead offering a focused experience that rewards dedication, skill, and exploration. For players who enjoy demanding action-platformers with expressive combat systems and non-linear worlds, Roah delivers a memorable and rewarding adventure that lingers long after its challenges are overcome. Rating: 7/10
Has some interesting character design but is one of the hardest metroidvanias I've ever played, often by design but also often because of moments of jank. I thought the game was soft locked near the start until I realised much later I had to go somewhere else first. It's also got some animation that reminds me of old flash movie tweening animation, whether that's a good or bad thing depends on your standards. Recommended only for those who want a challenge from an unusual game with some rough edges.
ran out of star fruit; now i cant see anything for the rest of the game
