I've had this for years, but finally got around to playing this after it got delisted. So this is probably falling on deaf ears, but as a longtime RCR fan I had to comment. Very cool, but very infuriating game (I've been told it used to be worse). Spritework is very good, the levels look very expressive and alive. The 8-bit faces your enemies make when you're beating the piss out of them makes you feel like you're really slugging it out with them. Combat however... Combat is very visceral and very satisfying 1v1, but a majority of the time you're fighting 5 other guys. All the time. On every screen, even in the mall. Until you go to the dojo and get a few moves under your belt, every fight feels like a life-or-death slog and you have to constantly do this until you have enough to either buy a move or scrape together $6 to use the sauna to restore HP. It's exhausting, it's draining, and absolutely not fun. Yes, you can just run past everyone, but you're not making money and you never really get to take a moment to rest. You're CONSTANTLY under attack. Gang members seem to be much faster and much more proficient than you, from no-dash lunge knockdowns (Bombers), to ranged attacks (Nerd grenades, Warlocks), psychic input reading and back attacks (those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with the beanies), and apparently much worse from what I hear. The recovery time from stuns is ridiculous. If one of the Bombers does his Goldberg spear into you, they get up a whole second faster than you do. Most of anything that is a special move sends you to the floor, and don't get me started with those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ freeze bombs. The random street mooks are more difficult than the boss battles. All of this, mind you is STORY mode difficulty. I'm not great at brawlers but not terrible either, and the 4 hour slog I spent on STORY mode has felt like an 8 hour shift at the Merv Burger. I haven't even gotten to the infamous missions that people loathe in this game. This game is exhausting and I'm absolutely done with it.

GRAPHICS ★★★★★ SOUND ★★★★★ GAMEPLAY ★★★★★ GAMELIFE ★★★☆☆ OVERALL ★★★★☆ Reviving the good old 1989 NES classic "Street Gangs" in a new, enhanced form... BARF!
Well... no clue why am I bothering writing this review, when game is delisted unfortunately. If somehow they work out a deal - I suggest you buy it. If -like me- this is your first game of the series, you might find it slightly confusing, but I promise it gets better and better as it goes on. Lots of moves, lots of fighting styles, characters, upgrades, and lots of locations - all of it rendered and sounded almost exactly as we're back in the 80ies again. Very, very lovely title! If you're a fan of Scott Pilgrim games - I dare saying this series was a huge inspiration for those in every way, especially the new one (Scott Pilgrim EX)
