May be a kid's game and the cliche "horse girl" game but I love it. No nonsense and simple but with enough realistic movements, equipment, coat colors and scenery where it keeps me entertained. Brought back childhood memories of playing games like this, though this wasn't one of the ones I played as a kid. I thought it was but was pleasantly surprised with it being similar but newer for me. Eventually I'd like to see a more adult game like this that goes into more detail and has better graphics but until then this satiates my hunger for something horse related. Also back to realistic movements...executing said movements is just the right amount of challenge in my opinion. It's not *too* easy for a child only audience, but also not ridiculously difficult.
I really like this game, because it's really realistic, putting in the strides, the speed, and the distance, i recommend it to anyone who likes good horse games !
I LOVE IT!! I LOVE THE WHOLE GAME BUT IT NEEDS SOME MORE DETAIL IN IT!! YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY DOWNLOAD THIS GAME!!
I love this game, it is a super realistic horse experience, highly recommend!
I like this game, I feel that you can see that the people who made it, care about the riding part of the game. I never played a horse game where the dressage part is so advanced and detailed and I really love that. I played many horse games where I wishd that the dressage part was better made. but I can't take the steering, when you play the dressage and that disappointing, begause this would be so must better if that just got fixd. my problem is that when I have to de the left or right trevits, I have to use the mouse for it to work and thats so frustrating. I dont understand why I just cant pres the e and q for this to work.
If you're a fan of more sports based horse games you'll probably like this one, I know people have said the original is better but I haven't played it and I enjoyed this one pretty well. It took about 8 hours for me to beat all of the competitions and my biggest complaint is that probably an hour of that was caring for horses or grinding stats to get to the next competition. The graphics and controls are pretty bad too but that's pretty normal for horse games. I personally found the dressage most enjoyable because there aren't many games with dressage in them and it was a pretty well rounded system that got more difficult as you progressed. The show jumping was also good, it was enjoyable and I really liked the courses at the higher levels. XC was very easy because basically all you need to do is keep kicking, so it got a little boring. Overall I liked the game!
I'm only recommending this for nostalgic reasons, if you haven't played this before it looks and plays really bad. I have vivid memories of me playing this on the ps2 and you can definitely tell it was made for that platform. The mouse steering is way too sensitive and the keyboard controls aren't always clear. You can use wasd and the arrow keys instead of the mouse, but it's kinda confusing. The graphics haven't changed since 2008 and the gameplay is linear. You basically grind out the training and ride the competitions for 10 hours. It still captivates me however after 12 years, so I'm a happy camper.
Love this Game
Amazing graphics, activities and shows to go to! Every equestrian's dream game.
Warning: Do NOT buy this in the hopes of getting a game similar to the original Riding Star game. Because it isn't and I doubt you can play it on a PC with as controller attached to fix the control issues. This was apparently a console game, so do not expect good controls. You can work around most things, but they are not good, and using the mouse is the absolute worst. You horse reacts like a brick, not matter the speed, the reaction will be slow and delay as hell. That's just game breaking... The controls are horrible for dressage. I'm not gonna bother with that bs. The only discipline I CAN recommend is Military, as you just need to steer with the left and right arrow keys and use the mouse to jump (but whatever you do, do NOT move it or your horse will keep randomly steering to left or right, depending on how you moved it). If you use this method, just keep mashing the mouse button far ahead of the obstacle and you should be good. As for Showjumping, well...it seems random? Sometimes my above method worked, other times I smacked down all bars for whatever reason. I tested if it had to do with my angle or the obstacle distance, but none of those seemed to be related. So I'm not sure what the hell to make of that. RNG I guess. See if you can manage any better, good luck anyway. The graphics are somehow worse than the older games. Not sure how they managed to do that but that's apparently the norm among horse games in this decade. Which I have absolutely no words for since that triggers me in all sorts of ways... Anyway, the textures are low effort, map designs are basic af and the animations are passable at best. (Considering that the original is much older but still had better animations I'm really disappointed.) It also has VERY limited colours for the horses too. And some are as unnatural as you can imagine (the all too popular: brown base with random white splotches added). Which is always frustrating for me since I love real horse colours. But that's just a personal thing. I'm not saying this is a bad game. Maybe if you wrap your head around the controls and master them it can be fun and amazing? But I highly doubt that. It's fun to play if you having nothing else to do and just want to jump a few obstacles or ride over an empty boring 'ride out' map, but this is not really a game to get invested in and play for ages. The controls are far too frustrating for that. If anyone manages to find out if and how this may work with a controller, maybe it can be more enjoyable. That's probably the only chance this game has to be actually fun to play. Still, this is likely one of the better horse games out there, both in terms of correct anatomy and animation for the horses and in actual gameplay. So it is worth a shot. But even if there are worse games, this is a time waster at best and gets boring rather quick due to the surroundings being boring and lifeless and the controls being a headache depending on the discipline. But again, it may be easier on a console with a controller. I'm not sure. Try it for yourself during sale, maybe you have a better time than me. But I wouldn't pay 10 bucks for this as it also seems short on top of all other things.
