"Rhome" is one of literally thousands of student projects infesting Steam. It's from SMU Guildhall in the USA. While student projects tend to be better quality than most "amateur" made games, we must still question what value such projects have for gamers. As with all student projects, this isn't really a fully fleshed out game, it's just the result of an academic exercise, and as such it has much more limited value as a game than a professionally developed game would have. Educational institutions should not be using Steam as a dumping ground for homework assignments (especially if the students didn't even pass the course). Sure, it helps their marketing and helps the students feel good about themselves, but this is another case of a business putting themselves before the needs of gamers. The students made a visually appealling but technically weak first person horror themed narrative adventure/puzzle game where you plod through an "escheresque" house and solve a few simple and unengaging puzzles... there's not much to this, but it's a student project. But not just any bit of homework... this was a PAID product... the students wanted YOUR MONEY for a homework assignment. This is appalling. Let's get into the technicals. The graphics in this game are really quite good, which at least makes the game look more appealing. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections that gamers expect to have, which is also highly problematic. Developers must learn they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I had my cat walk over the keyboard while the EULA was displaying, which fixed that problem for me. This game is fairly dated at 5 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $5 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded. It would be unethical for students to try charge money for their homework assignments, but they tried to charge gamers $5 for this... utterly unacceptable. It's since gone free, which is a slap in the face to anyone who gave these students money for their homework. Holy crap, I can't get over just how bad it is that students were trying to scam gamers out of money for a student project. Absolutely unethical. There's the other problem, too... as a student project, this wasn't made for gamers. There's no requirement for them to polish and balance the game properly, all they need is something to show the faculty so they can get their grade and move on. Let's once more ask... why is that good for gamers? It's obviously not delivering a solid product. Yet here it is, on the store page, and here you are, reading my review for a student demo that's going to waste your time. While genuine amateur developers who made real products get ignored because they have to compete with this stuff. In some ways, this deluge of student projects on Steam is harmful to everyone. In terms of public reception, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? Nope. There's no up front cost here, but I still feel like I should be asking for my money back, and I didn't even spend any. That's how bad this is.

Esse me surpreendeu!
SMU students did great job again. My only criticism is it needs optimization but other than that it was a great experience. A for art approach and creativity. Good luck in your careers!
Geht eher in Richtung psychologische Trauma-Bewältigung.
AVOID | LACKING | MAYBE | WORTHWHILE | COMPELLING | UNMISSABLE Rhome is a creepy walking sim game where you play as a woman returning home from work to find that your house maybe isn't your house anymore. The house starts to change in unexpected ways as you try to find your husband. The game is straightforward and pulled me in fast. It's a quick play, clocking in at ~30 minutes. I don't tend to expect much from free games, so while I enjoyed my time playing it, I think I would be disappointed if I had spent money on it (I understand at one point this cost $5). If you're looking for a short but engaging experience, you may as well give it a try.
I actually kind of liked it. I finished it very quickly. You can't say the gameplay is really good, it's just a walking simulator, but they did a cool job with the heroine's gradually increasing fear, and her monologues sound genuinely real and authentic. A tragic story.

хорошая игра
A short walking sim.. I loved the varying changing maze-like environment. I liked it enough to wish the graphics were more realistic and the game was longer.
