Y2K trance simulator
One of my favourite games. A truly great blend of style and gameplay with very little I can say bad about it. Ran surprisingly well on steam deck even when maxed out and running 1080 docked. Only time it ever slowed down was while I streamed the entire game start to end for my friends, and that was more than likely because it was being streamed to a laptop from the deck before being streamed again from the laptop to said friends. Also played this to death on quest and can’t wait for the steam frame to release so I can experience this masterpiece all over again.
A very cool game that absolutely scratches that 90s-VR itch. For fellow Millennials and Gen X players, it feels like the in-universe VR visuals from The Lawnmower Man fused with the adrenaline of a classic ’90s rail shooter. What you see is exactly what you get—and that’s a good thing. Unlike many rail shooters from the ’90s that could be punishingly difficult or confusing, Rez Infinite is easy to learn and quick to master. Despite that (or maybe because of it), it remains consistently fun and engaging. Update — major drawback: there’s no way to save your progress mid-run. If you want to reach the final chapter, plan to set aside at least an hour. If you exit the game, you either restart from the beginning or resume from the last completed chapter without your accumulated evolution (power-ups and upgrades that most players need to handle the later bosses). For those of us who can only play in shorter sessions, that’s extremely inconvenient.
Great game but wish that there was a way to have the original Rez,Rez hd menus maybe make an update so that you can change it or make it a free dlc
I'm a big fan of Rez and have played the original game on PS2 a few years ago. I was happy to see it had a steam release but, unfortunately for what's supposed to be the definitive port of an old game which ran on old hardware that should be easy to emulate on PC, Rez Infinite did not run well on my computer which is able to run more newer games just fine. Even when messing around with the graphics settings, I still got a lot of slow down and out of sync music in the first level. Disappointing.
I just completed the first area and i am convinced this is how the 90's must have been founded including xtc. Music is good and fits in the flashy environment.
Incredible game, one of my favorites on the Dreamcast, now Infinite! "Area X" was absolutely gorgeous, nice addition even though its short. I just wish the Steam Controller had stronger rumble like the Dreamcast Jump Pack :P
If you like the visuals you see in the screenshots, you'll enjoy this game. The gameplay is a mix between a shmup and a rhythm game. At times it felt like it dipped a bit too deep into shmup territory for my taste, with the final level being a bit obnoxious with the difficulty.
If you die on the last level you have to replay the previous level, which is like 10 minutes long.
You should also know up front that there's only 6 levels in the main campaign. With the difficulty ramping up each level, it took me around 6 hours to beat all of them. I personally thought the content to price ratio was good but that's just because the music and the visual style is very much my cup of tea. On another note, for some reason when i tried to use mouse controls for this game the framerate slowed to a crawl. I wasn't a big fan of using WASD to aim so I ended up busting out a controller. I did play this on a laptop so your mileage may vary. I didn't play with a VR headset because I'm poor :/ If you're not into this super-geometric y2k style, or niche 90s electronic music, you should skip this one.
