Réussir : Code de la Route – Nouvelle Édition is a title that sits firmly on the boundary between software and game, leaning far more toward the former while still borrowing just enough structure from the latter to make the experience interactive. Developed by Smart Tale Games and published by Microids, it is designed with a clear and practical goal: to help players prepare for and pass the French driving theory exam. Everything about it—from its structure to its pacing—serves that purpose, which means evaluating it as a traditional “game” can be misleading. It is better understood as a guided study tool that happens to use game-like elements to maintain engagement. The core experience revolves around a large database of questions and lessons that mirror the real French Highway Code exam. These are organized into categories covering road signs, traffic laws, driving behavior, safety protocols, and situational awareness. Players move through these topics by answering questions, reviewing explanations, and gradually building familiarity with the material. The inclusion of detailed feedback is one of the game’s strongest features, as it not only tells you whether an answer is correct but also explains why, reinforcing learning rather than encouraging simple memorization. This makes it particularly effective for players who benefit from structured, iterative study. The game also includes a simulation mode that closely replicates the conditions of the actual exam. This is where its value becomes most apparent, as it allows players to test their knowledge under realistic constraints, helping to build confidence and reduce anxiety before taking the real test. The progression system supports this by tracking performance over time, highlighting weaker areas and encouraging targeted practice. While this progression lacks the excitement typically associated with games, it provides a clear sense of improvement that aligns well with the experience’s educational goals. To break up the repetition, the game introduces a handful of alternative modes, including mini-games and quick challenges that focus on specific aspects such as sign recognition or rapid decision-making. These elements add a small degree of variety, but they remain closely tied to the core educational content. They are less about entertainment and more about reinforcing knowledge in slightly different formats. The inclusion of local multiplayer is an unusual but welcome addition, allowing players to compete or collaborate, which can make the learning process more engaging in a social context. Visually, the game is designed with clarity in mind. The interface is clean and functional, presenting information in a way that is easy to read and navigate. Images and scenarios are straightforward, prioritizing accuracy over artistic detail. While this approach is effective for learning, it results in a presentation that feels somewhat sterile. There is little in the way of stylistic flair or personality, and the overall experience can feel closer to using a digital study guide than playing a game. This is not necessarily a flaw, but it does limit its appeal outside of its intended purpose. One of the most defining aspects of the game is its specificity. The entire experience is presented in French and tailored exclusively to the French Highway Code. This makes it highly effective for its target audience but significantly limits its accessibility. Players who are not preparing for this specific exam will find little reason to engage with it, as its content does not translate into broader gameplay or universal appeal. It is a specialized tool, and its value depends entirely on whether the player needs what it offers. The biggest challenge the game faces is maintaining engagement over time. The process of studying—answering questions, reviewing mistakes, and repeating the cycle—is inherently repetitive, and the game does little to disguise this. While its structure is efficient and well-organized, it lacks the kind of variety or mechanical depth that could make the experience feel more dynamic. For players motivated by the goal of passing the exam, this repetition is a necessary and even welcome part of the process. For others, it can quickly become monotonous. Despite this, the game succeeds in delivering exactly what it promises. It provides a comprehensive, structured, and accessible way to learn the material required for the French driving test. Its strength lies not in entertainment but in utility, offering a reliable and effective study companion that can genuinely help players achieve a real-world goal. The inclusion of exam simulations, performance tracking, and varied question formats ensures that it covers all the necessary aspects of preparation. In the end, Réussir : Code de la Route – Nouvelle Édition is not a game that aims to entertain in the traditional sense, but one that fulfills a specific function with clarity and efficiency. It is a practical tool first and an interactive experience second, and it should be approached with that understanding. For those preparing for the French driving theory exam, it is a valuable resource. For everyone else, it will likely feel too limited and repetitive to hold lasting interest. Rating: 8/10

I spend 138 hours in this game and passed my code exam at second attempt in 1.5 months! French is my third language and my current language level is a2. Anyone who speaks french fluent can pass the exam with 50 hours commited study. I highly recommend this app. Question types are little bit different but information is up to date!
