я играть в консосьные игры. я быть рада. игра быть многа.
I never write real reviews or attempt to but this app is an absolute belter if you like retro games and emulation. I put together some pros and cons from what I've found after using it a little bit.
Why RetroArch is top notch (Pros)
All-in-One Hub: You don't need a separate app for Game Boy, SNES, N64, or PlayStation 1. Everything lives under one roof using downloadable emulator "cores". Universal Controls: Once you map your controller, it applies across every system. You also get one-button access to exit games, rewind, or use fast-forward. Save States & Rewind: Stuck on a stupid boss? You can instantly save your exact progress and even rewind time to fix a mistake. Nostalgic Visuals (Shaders): The built-in CRT shaders and the incredible Blur Busters motion-clarity shaders let you recreate the look and feel of an old 1995 Sony tube TV in your bedroom. Achievements & Multiplayer: It supports the RetroAchievements.org ecosystem and features lag-reducing Netplay so you can play couch co-op with friends online.
The nuisances (Cons)
Interface Complexity: The app is very powerful, which means the default menu can feel complicated or "clunky" for new users. Many users on Reddit recommend switching the interface to the "XMB" blade style menu for a cleaner, PS3-like experience. Trial and Error Setup: Getting everything running perfectly takes a bit of messing around, such as adding necessary BIOS files for disc-based systems or pairing a frontend like Launchbox or ES-DE. Heavy Systems: While it's flawless for 8-bit, 16-bit, and PS1, heavy systems like PS2 or GameCube often run better on dedicated standalone emulators rather than RetroArch cores.
RetroArch stands out as an exceptional, all-in-one preservation powerhouse that streamlines classic gaming history into a single interface. By utilizing a unique system of modular 'cores,' this platform allows users to seamlessly run games across dozens of vintage consoles with remarkable emulation accuracy. The presentation preserves the authentic visual aesthetics of bygone eras while enhancing them through customizable shaders and crisp graphical filters. This robust mechanical flexibility ensures that classic titles look, feel, and play beautifully on modern hardware. While the initial configuration menu presents a steep learning curve for newcomers, the sheer depth of features heavily outweighs this temporary hurdle. Advanced options like netplay for multiplayer, achievements integration, and rewind capabilities breathe vibrant new life into older, repetitive gameplay loops. Ultimately, the software overcomes its minor usability limitations by offering unmatched customization and performance. If I had to pinpoint a flaw, it would be the lack of BIOS files (or the mention of their absence).
Insanely complicated to use for no reason. I'm using Emudeck on Steam Deck, which uses Retroarch for a lot of consoles. Retroarch formats saves in its own format instead of the correct format for the emulator, this causes a lot of issues if you want to use Syncthing to sync saves and savestates. I JUST managed to get the saves to work with Syncthing, only for Retroarch on desktop to refuse to load the save states created on Steam Deck via Emudeck. This kind of needless obtuseness is all over the app. The only way to get around this is to not have Emudeck manage your ROMs, and just launch frontends directly. This software is extremely restrictive and hostile to any kind of usage outside of the narrow scope set by the developers.
Gracias RetroArch por tanto y perdón por tan poco
Free. Open source. Play old game good. Retro achievements. The UI and having remapping my controllers every time I switch a different one makes me want to KMS, but nothing's perfect. Patience will be rewarded. 9/10.
It's a (mostly) all-in-one emulator, the default UI is abysmal so set it to "xmb".
