Update #1 03/17/2020: The fall damage problem has been fixed. The game is still really buggy and I still don't feel I can recommend it in it's current state but it is definitely closer to a "recommend" than I thought it would be at this point. At the very least, it's kind of playable at this point and you can make some progress. Fundamentally broken in just about every way imagineable. I thought the game couldn't possibly be as bad as the other reviewers made it out to be. I was wrong. It was even worse.
Follow "First Person Exploration and Puzzle Games" for more games like this!
This game reminds me a lot of Off-Peak and The Norwood Suite. So much so, in fact, that I'd be willing to bet it's the same developer by a different name. All three games look and feel very amateurish (especially the programming), but are oddly appealing due to the environments. You walk around very strange environments doing strange things while a strange (but very basic) storyline unfolds. Unfortunately, of the three games, this is definitely the worst. The game is so buggy that I died while walking around doing nothing (why can you even die in a walking simulator??). It's still in 'early access', but it was supposed to be finished over a year ago, with no word from the devs, so it's unlikely to ever get fixed. I'd have to recommend you avoid this and play Norwood Suite instead.
#CONFUSING# So, the Rest House is an early access horror game puzle with a nice atmosphere and music. But there is many of things that need to be fixed. For example: 1. To many empty spaces. (Game has rooms with nothing in it, just walls and some mist) 2. Planty of bugs and messed up textures. (especially hate messed up font) 3. Game doesnt have a control manual, so I accidentally quit the game all over again and redo all my progress. 4. Save button doesnt save game, like seriously :D 5. Sometimes sounds are too loud and its uncontrollably. Okay, now move to the good part. 1. Really nice and catchy music. (I want soundtrack from this game if its original) 2. When rooms are actually filled with something, it looks pretty good. 3. Although it was confusing and sometimes silly, I got scared twice or more. :D So, thats all, I hope this game gonna be a lot better with time and I will come back and play it again.
Game is very buggy and save is not possible. Some levels can not be finished because textures are missing and you fall through the floor. You can die if you jump against a wall but there is no fall damage.
Rest House
A very peculiar obsession of Don Quixote paints this game's cerebral narrative. The levels and artwork are muddled, jarring, and provide a fenestrated glimpse into the developer's unusual psyche. A commitment worth its value if you're into strange games. Warning: The game offers links to external websites usually found at the end of each level to Youtube videos, Leaderboards, and other websites. Some of these links were blocked by my antivirus for malicious code. Some of those loaded in-game windows to these external websites that my antivirus blocked as well.
Unplayable, broken trash art platformer/walking sim abandonware. It has no redeeming qualities. Rest House is an undisciplined mess. It seems like a journey through the mind of a person, but that is nothing more than a bad excuse to ignore art direction and level design completely and throw in random assets, materials and light objects to hide the eclectic and directionless art with pretty volumetric lighting. Even if you like games like the Norwood Suite, avoid this garbage. There are no save points, no way to heal and so many bugs and bad collision detection. I died way too often to fall damage. Even jumping at ground level can kill you. No tutorials or options. The GUI is terrible. It's either unfinished, unpolished or stolen from what seems like Bioshock. The story is of course nonsense too. The "puzzles" sometimes work, sometimes don't. The assets sometimes have textures, sometimes don't. Apparantly there is a multiplayer mode, but after trying it once, that is broken too, with objects flashing and lighting up, NPCs running around and then bugging out. This isn't trash art, this's just trash.
I find this one hard to rate actually. I kinda like the crazy random visuals and since it's early access I don't want to be too harsh. But there were 3 aspects that annoyed me too much to give it a thumbs up: First, if you just get a description of what to do to solve a puzzle, it's not really a puzzle anymore. Second, Wtf is this fall damage? Falling 4 floors down without getting damage and then, on the other hand, loosing 20hp when just jumping on the spot? I don't get it. And third, please don't use stairs which you can only climb by jumping every 2 steps! It's just annoying. So all in all, I stopped playing in the third chapter after dying from a combination of those stupid stairs and random fall damage... I look forward to give this game another go though :) ... if it ever gets finished. Best wishes.
