best resident evil game imo absolute peak

I'm going to keep plowing through this game but I will never enjoy a game that just makes me constantly stumble when I run. It's so cliche, and literally nobody does it. Also, running "like a girl" (yes, she's a girl, but "running like a girl") from the big bad monsters is absolutely eye-rollingly dumb. Also, the FBI is recruiting girls like Grace? Come on. Leon is great, Grace is awful. This game sucks. It's almost like they wrote it to fail. Sigh....the RE series has been going so long, I guess it's just inevitable. No original ideas at Capcom anymore. Enjoy stumbling? Game is 10/10 Enjoy weak useless protagonist women? Game is 10/10 Everyone else is going to play this game and go "What the actual F were they thinking". Slop.
I have this game on ps5 and platinumed it and was like, why not buy it also on pc and play it for a 5th time? 10/10 having fun again.
I just finished Resident Evil Requiem in 24 hours with 40 of the 49 trophies, and honestly, this might be one of the best Resident Evil games I've played. I loved it. Let's start with the obvious: the game is absolutely stunning. Yes, it's the RE Engine again, and yes, we've seen what it can do for years now, but that doesn't make Requiem any less gorgeous. The lighting, the material work, the faces, the way darkness actually feels dark, all of it is dantesque. Performance is good overall, though maxing it out is the usual modern-game ordeal: crank everything up, switch on DLSS, and hope for the best. That's the state of PC gaming now and Requiem is no exception, but once it's dialled in, it's a genuinely beautiful game to sit in. The structure is what makes it for me. The first half alternates between Grace Ashcroft and Leon Kennedy, and that alternation is brilliant. You mostly control Grace, and she's the opposite of the usual Resident Evil protagonist: she's an FBI technical analyst with barely any field experience, she's nervous, she's out of her depth, and the game makes you feel every bit of that. Playing on the standard difficulty, without unlimited saves, those sections are unbelievably tense. You're rationing everything, planning your routes, deciding which enemies are worth fighting and which ones you simply run from. It's proper survival horror in the lineage of RE7 and the RE2 remake, and it had me genuinely anxious in a way the series hasn't managed in a while. Then you get these short bursts with Leon, a few minutes at a time, packed with action. As pacing, it's perfect. Just as the tension with Grace is about to become exhausting, you're handed the fantasy of being the veteran who actually knows what he's doing, and then it's snatched away and you're back to being scared. That contrast is the smartest thing the game does. Where I was a little more disappointed is the second half, where you're playing Leon and only Leon, and it turns into a full action game. Don't get me wrong, it's still good, and the locations are fantastic. Revisiting places tied to the series' history, with Grace's connection to her mother Alyssa and the Raccoon City survivors running underneath it, is exactly the kind of fan service I want. But sustained action just isn't what I wanted from a game that had spent ten hours proving how good it was at making me afraid. The tension deflates. The good news is that it comes back at the end, when control returns to Grace and the survival horror grip tightens again, but that middle stretch was the one part where I felt the game drifting away from its best self. The story I have nothing bad to say about. It's well constructed, it's told with restraint rather than burying you in exposition, and it ties Grace's personal investigation into the wider series history without feeling like a nostalgia exercise. Grace herself is a great addition to the cast precisely because she's fragile, and watching her harden over the course of the game gives the whole thing an arc that most Resident Evil protagonists don't get. The atmosphere is incredible throughout, and the soundtrack and sound design do an enormous amount of the heavy lifting. Audio is more than half of what makes the Grace sections work: the stalker enemies, the sounds behind you, the silences. It's a masterclass. As for replay value, 40 out of 49 trophies in 24 hours means I got most of what I wanted out of it. As for the remaining trophies, there are a few collectibles left, but the real barrier is that getting the last nine or so basically means replaying the whole game. I just don't have the appetite for that anymore. I've got too many games in the backlog and too many other things going on to sink another full playthrough into a game I've already experienced the way I wanted to. Forty out of forty-nine in 24 hours is exactly where I'm happy to leave it. Overall, I'd give it a 8.5/10. A gorgeous, genuinely frightening return to form that balances survival horror and action better than any Resident Evil since RE4, held back only slightly by an action-heavy middle that loses some of the tension the rest of the game builds so well.
Overall good game and good RE title. I was surprised how similar it is to... RE6, sections when Leon is saving Grace at the church location reminded me a lot about the Cathedral with Helena and Leon, motorbike section made me felt like I was playing RE6 remake or something haha, coming back to RPD in it's current state was... a very nostalgic experience. Luckily there is not much QTE unlike in RE6 xD I have some complaints though, character movements feel a bit clunky and just odd to me. Leon stance/idle is like he's 68 not 48. Story like almost always in RE is full of absurd, why the hell would Grace suddenly basically follow her enemies just for Leon to save her again... I get that she is a blondie but come on! Combat sections are good, at least when playing as Leon, Grace sections were a bit hard to get by to me tbh, her movement is super slow and she can't even do melee combat like those badass women of RE6 were able lol But I mostly liked the stealth and horror like sections, nice change of almost constant combat sections which again felt like déjà vu from RE4/5/6 to me haha, I don't complain as I like combat in those games, but sometimes it was a bit too much. Oh another thing that made me think about RE6 was that some zombies were using... guns.. XD They can even aim sometimes! This is too weird to me, but also very funny. Sounds and music is good, graphics is great, controls are okay, no crashes for me so technical side is very good. Overall 8/10.
One of the best horror-action games out there -- love it to bits
I have mixed feelings about this game. But first of all, I want to give Kudos to Capcom for their excellent use of the RE Engine in terms of optimising the game. This game, like all other previous RE titles runs like a dream without any performance issues or hitches whatsoever and its a testament to how the developers love and care can truly make running games a breeze, a thing which is sadly lacking in most AAA or even some AA games nowadays. Okay now to the game itself. I felt that the game was too familiar to the style of the RE games I have been playing recently. Basically, the game fluctuates between the story of 2 protagonists, Grace Ashcroft and Leon Kennedy. Grace's gameplay is focused more on the survival horror and inventory management and Leon's gameplay on more action and gunfights. While playing Grace's section I felt that I was playing a mix of RE 2 remake and RE 7 all over again, which were really great games in their own way, because RE 2 was a punishing game and RE 7 tried something different with the franchise which I appreciated. To have a mix of these 2 games in Grace's section did heighten the tension and created some intense encounters, however the sense of familiarity really felt flat and repetitive to me after a few hours. Its not bad by any means and I actually preferred Grace's sections more than Leon's, but it felt that I have already been there and done that before. Now, Leon's sections were clearly inspired by the RE 4 remake and fans of that game will actually love his gameplay the most. But then again, while I love the original RE 4 and the remake as well, I wanted a different style of gameplay with Leon. If I want to play a game similar in style to RE 4, I'll just play RE 4. There were some sections which I expected to encounter more like the open style area of Raccoon City which I found was quite new in terms of an RE action game but sadly, that was just once. But I did like the length of that section and I hope they make more sections like these in future RE games. In terms of story, its not great by any means, but I liked the characters of Grace and our man Leon and how their stories intertwined narratively. I also liked how the game's story connected with the first game which gets quite overlooked and also loved the hidden easter eggs scattered all around the game for hardcore RE fans to find. So overall, I would't recommend this game at full price considering the gameplay is too familiar with previous titles but its still a good entry into this franchise. I give it 7 Hip Pouches out of 10.
