I picked this game up last night while browsing for something to cure my boredom, and honestly I expected it to be hot garbage. The game itself is a great idea and I can see it going quite a few places. While it is in Early Access and I should expect low content and bugs, there are a lot of tiny annoying ones. Such as not being able to leave a building menu or character sheet with escape as it brings up the main menu, and you can't press escape to close the main menu (not game breaking but annoying). There are a few others like this with simple clicking errors on the developer's end that make you stop and think for a second. Overall pretty good, but I would wait until a few update unless you have a job.
Lovely game, keep it up
First off I would like to say join the discord the dev is super friendly and would like to get input on what we all would think could make this game even better! Adding on to that the game itself is amazing so much to do from farming, combat, building, crafting, to even curing a certain disease you will all be acquainted with and so much more. I logged in 12 hours so far and I just got the game a day or two ago. If you are on the fence about this game I would recommend getting it. Be aware though the game is a little rough around the edges but what early access game isn't? The developer has shown a great amount of care for the community and Rekindling and I can't wait to see whats in store next!
I've been hooked on this game since the day I got it. It's extremely addicting and the end game is really fun.
Crashes constantly. Get to about the 15 day and it crashes, reload the auto save and it crashes in under 2 minutes. People refuse to get water from numerous wells so they are dying of thirst. Too bad because the time I could play the game it was entertaining. Just too frustrating trying to deal with the constant crashes though.
Pros - Lots to do and easy to sink time into the game - Intricate options for resource and building management - Developer is very responsive to feedback - Runs great with Proton Cons - Some in-game menus could use more polish Definitely worth the money. If you like Rimworld you'll probably like this.
Good game, fun community. Recommended.
I like the art style, great concept, getting actively updated.. i am looking forward for playing this game a lot... This game definitely have exciting future
10h at the time of this review. I don't write a lot of reviews, Scroll to the bottom for the meat and potatoes if you don't want to read much. Rekindling has you managing a colony of survivors, who's plane goes down in the wilderness during the zombie apocalypse. It's your job to manage the survivors to build your base and keep everyone fed, healthy, and hopefully happy so you can eventually research the cure to the ZIM virus. Through careful management and researching, you will be able to build your defenses, make better more durable/powerful stuff, and give your survivors a little easier time at surviving. And with a little luck, you'll get more survivors who want to join your budding settlement. Each survivor has positive and negative traits and varying skills that will hopefully help them survive. There are a variety of task types, such as building, harvesting, researching, mining, etc. You can set priorities for each task. Maybe you need those walls up faster than you need that carrot farm created. You can set the priority higher for constructing the walls. You can also directly assign jobs to survivors, providing that they have the ability to do the job. Maybe your survivor Bill can't farm. You would not be able to assign him to do farming jobs then. You can also assign tasks such as keep <x> water. If there's less than x of a given item in storage, then the survivors will try to get more. Sometimes you might want to directly control a survivor. You can select and control one. Then you can move them around and do the things you want them to do. You can even play the whole game as one survivor and still issue orders to the rest of the settlement. About those zombies.... Every night, they will be roaming about. If they hear your people doing things, they'll head toward the base to try to eat your survivors' brains. Some nights are harder than others. If you make it to the next morning, the zombies will melt. There's more than just zombies to contend with. You will need to manage food and water and other resources, along with environmental challenges, like temperature, weather, and even debris falling from space. There are animals as well, different types, and they're tamable too. You may also be visited by less than friendly folks who want your stuff and want to kill your survivors to take it. As the days go by the hostile mobs will also get tougher. So you always have to be prepared for each night. And what would a colony sim be without sickness. You can get various illnesses, like poisoned from eating food that isn't quite fresh anymore, a cold, and even contract the ZIM virus! Then you can watch as your poor settler has a pretty good likelihood of turning into a zombie! You can keep them separated from your other survivors, and probably should The UI is simple enough; around the edges of the screen, you have access to various important controls and pieces of information, grouped sensibly. You can interact with your survivors and objects and things on the screen, by right clicking them and get more information or options of things you can do with them. Once you get the grip on where everything is, it's simple to find the information you need. This review is for the game as it is in early access. The graphics are going to get a major overhaul, but theoretically, a potato could run this game. The music is good. It's pretty unobtrusive. The gameplay.. Like any good survival colony sim, you're probably going to die. You might bad luck, or like me, make poor planning choices that eventually lead to the downfall of your settlement. Then you can start over and try again! SFS Studios is one guy. I didn't think I would be that interested in this. I have other similar games and have played a few minutes than moved on to the next shiny thing. I'm not sure what it is, but I feel like there's enough to do and worry about without a huge amount of super complex systems it keeps me interested. I have not gotten the cure in any of my runs yet, and it's interesting enough to keep trying different things and maybe I'll last a bit longer! Multiplayer! There's multiplayer! You can play with friends! I don't have friends, so I play solo. But you can! I'm having a great time playing it, and I wholeheartedly recommend it, particularly if you've never played a game in this genre before, but even if you have.. $15 isn't a high barrier to try a fun game, and it supports a dev who's super active and takes player suggestions seriously. It's a great game!
