This is the greatest Christmas game of all time. It's an RPG with inspiration from Mario & Luigi games and Undertale. The game has got a lot of puns and jokes fitting for the season and a great story to go along with it. It also keeps things interesting with side quests and other mechanics in the main story. Not to forget there are many endings, some of them only in new game+, so there is a lot of replay value too. This game just became a part of my yearly Christmas things to do and I am considering aiming for 100% achievements. Also doing my part for making Reindeer Story 3D possible, heh! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Very charming and entertaining RPG, and the Christmas theming gives a unique, fuzzy atmosphere. Character dialogue is sharp and entertaining, and the variety given in the package is sublime, even if some of it is quite janky like the car sections. For only 8 bucks the content in this game is great, a 10-15 hour experience with 9 endings.Very much recommend.
This was a very fun and unique little RPG! It feels most similar to something like Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door with its cheeky writing style and format, having you gather many of the same important object (in this case, "Grand Presents") to save the world. The battle system is also cool, borrowing some ideas from other RPGs while introducing a couple of neat mechanics of its own. If you can get past a few janky sections and one unfortunately named main character, I highly recommend this game!
A fun and well paced game with a lot of charm and worth giving a go if you are a fan of the genre. Can be a bit janky at times, especially the platforming, but overall great level design and generous checkpoints make it a non-isssue. Combat starts quite simple but gets a lot more interesting by the end of the game if you take the time to build your characters properly. Very impressive level of polish for a solo developer, and I'm happy to see the game is still getting consistent updates. Minimap update is a huge improvement!

Reindeer Story is a top down RPG with a TON of Christmassy content and a fairly unique battle system! Most enemies feature a Red/Green/Blue colour scheme, with a weakness to one and a resistance to the other. Battles play out in turn based fashion with timed attacks and free movement dodging segments when it becomes the enemies turn. One element I've really enjoyed is how the player characters each have some kind of combat specialty. Lux, the titular Reindeer is an all arounder with the highest movement speed, making them best to dodge tricky attacks (and even counter attack). Robin has some support abilities and a spell that can hit almost everything. Whereas the third partner you get seems to deal the most damage by far (and is probably my favourite design of the lot)! Music, visuals, and writing are all rather adorable, with some nods to its 'Mario & Luigi' inspirations, as well as of course, the holiday season. Some hitboxes on the environment and enemies can be a bit jank, and I always end up walking away from dialogue conversations accidentally, but as you can see by some of other reviewer's playtime, that certainly doesn't get in the way of experiencing all the many bosses and optional content the game has to offer while i've only scratched the surface. Truly impressive stuff!
Comfy pixelart RPG, very reminiscent of the Mario & Luigi series.
Very fun and colorful game a few bugs here and there but nothing game breaking or extremly frustrating the story and characters are an absolute highlight its inspired by games like undertale and paper mario
Reindeer Story is a holiday-themed role-playing adventure developed and published by Azzie and Smoggysoft, delivering a retro-inspired experience filled with charm, exploration, and classic RPG influences. Built with pixel-art visuals and a design philosophy that embraces older role-playing traditions, the game combines seasonal storytelling with adventure mechanics that feel familiar while introducing enough personality to stand apart. It presents a cheerful world hiding larger stakes beneath its festive atmosphere, creating an adventure that balances lighthearted moments with meaningful progression. The story centers around Lux, a young red-nosed reindeer who finds himself connected to a crisis threatening the holiday season itself. Trouble begins when Jack Frost infiltrates Santa’s Workshop and steals six Grand Presents, powerful objects tied directly to maintaining balance across the world. The consequences quickly grow larger than a simple theft, creating the possibility of endless winter and widespread disruption. Lux, carrying both determination and guilt tied to earlier mistakes, becomes part of a larger mission to restore order before the damage becomes irreversible. The narrative leans heavily into holiday themes without relying entirely on familiar seasonal traditions. Snow-covered landscapes, magical elements, and cheerful personality help establish atmosphere, but the game also introduces original ideas that give its setting a stronger identity. The world feels crafted with affection for classic adventure storytelling, blending humor, emotional moments, and occasional surprises that prevent progression from becoming predictable. Lux serves as a likable protagonist whose personal growth strengthens investment throughout the journey. Exploration plays a major role in the experience. Reindeer Story embraces classic world traversal systems that encourage players to move beyond objective markers and search for hidden discoveries. Secrets, collectibles, and optional rewards create reasons to examine environments carefully rather than simply rushing toward story progression. The structure rewards curiosity, making exploration feel valuable rather than purely decorative. Movement systems also add welcome variety. While many retro-inspired role-playing games rely entirely on simple navigation systems, Reindeer Story incorporates platforming elements that expand how players interact with the environment. Traversal occasionally becomes a challenge itself, creating moments that demand timing and awareness beyond standard exploration. This additional layer helps progression remain engaging while preventing environments from blending together mechanically. Combat serves as another area where the game attempts to distinguish itself. Battles operate on turn-based foundations but introduce interactive elements that keep encounters more engaging than simple menu selection. Timing inputs during attacks allows players to improve effectiveness, while defensive actions encourage greater participation during enemy turns. The result creates combat that feels more active than many traditional RPG systems without abandoning the strategic thinking associated with the genre. Character growth systems further strengthen progression. Equipment upgrades, magical abilities, and combat enhancements gradually expand possibilities throughout the adventure. New abilities introduce additional strategic options while reinforcing a satisfying sense of advancement. Building stronger characters becomes an ongoing reward loop that complements both exploration and combat effectively. Lux’s abilities also extend beyond battle systems. Certain powers serve environmental purposes, allowing puzzle-solving and progression mechanics to connect naturally with character development. Obstacles often require observation and creative thinking rather than simple key collection or linear advancement. These moments add pacing variety while encouraging stronger interaction with the world itself. Visually, Reindeer Story succeeds through charm rather than technical ambition. The pixel-art presentation captures the spirit of classic role-playing games while maintaining enough personality to feel distinct. Character sprites remain expressive, environments communicate atmosphere effectively, and the overall art direction supports the cheerful but adventurous tone consistently throughout progression. The soundtrack and presentation style reinforce the holiday atmosphere particularly well. Seasonal themes remain central to the game’s identity without becoming repetitive or overly dependent on nostalgia. The world feels inviting and warm while still carrying enough stakes to maintain narrative momentum. The game also offers substantial content beyond its primary storyline. Optional discoveries, collectibles, progression systems, and replay-oriented features help strengthen long-term value. Players who enjoy exploring thoroughly will likely discover additional reasons to remain invested beyond simply reaching the ending. There are moments where its independent scope becomes visible. Players expecting highly cinematic storytelling or modern large-scale RPG complexity may notice simpler design choices throughout progression. Certain systems favor straightforward execution over extensive depth. However, those choices also help preserve accessibility and maintain focus on the game’s strongest qualities. Reindeer Story succeeds because it understands exactly what kind of experience it wants to create. It combines nostalgic inspiration, holiday atmosphere, interactive combat, and heartfelt storytelling into an adventure that feels sincere rather than manufactured. Azzie and Smoggysoft deliver a game that embraces classic role-playing foundations while giving players a memorable seasonal adventure filled with warmth, personality, and genuine charm. Rating: 8/10
