Note: Dead PvP game This game contains no meaningful single player content. There's no viably populated servers/active player population. This game cannot be played as intended.
"Red Planet Rampage" is one of literally thousands of student projects infesting Steam. It's from Hackerspace NTNU in Scandinavia. While student projects tend to be better quality than most "amateur" games, we must still question what value they have for gamers. This isn't a fully fleshed out game. It's the result of an academic exercise and has much more limited value than a professionally developed game. Educational institutions should not be using Steam as a dumping ground for homework assignments. It helps their marketing and makes students feel good, but it puts the business before the needs of gamers. The students made a rather pointless and dead-on-arrival "westernpunk" low poly arena shooter, a barely detectable drop in the ocean of "PvP exclusive" games in a massively oversaturated market. Offering nothing new or interesting, it died immediately. The students haven't touched this for 3 months, it's likely they've already walked away from it, leaving abandoned Early Access junk, a dead, unfinished and unwanted PvP arena shooter on Steam, to pollute the place and make it harder for people to find genuinely, professionally developed games. In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality low poly 3D graphics which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. It would be unethical for students to try charge money for their homework assignments, so you don't have to pay any money for this. But you'd still have to spend your time downloading this, and "time is money", as they say. There's the other problem, too... as a student project, this wasn't made for gamers. There's no requirement for them to polish and balance the game properly, all they need is something to show the faculty so they can get their grade and move on. Let's once more ask... why is that good for gamers? It's obviously not delivering a solid product. Yet here it is, on the store page, and here you are, reading my review for a student demo that's going to waste your time. While genuine amateur developers who made real products get ignored because they have to compete with this stuff. In some ways, this deluge of student projects on Steam is harmful to everyone. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB shows this peaked at only 8 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Given that this free student project won't count toward your game collection or add any achievements, and because it's not really a full game and more of a homework assignment, it's not a worthwhile download.

Best game to play with friends just introduce more broad ONLINE MODE, I know it takes much more money for servers and all but try it will change the game!

I'm currently doing a challenge to play through a free game in every single category on steam. I then give an honest review using ChatGPT.
Game: 138 / 447 Category: Mars You play as a robot in this Mars-set FPS. The main hook is the weapon customization—you can upgrade your gun with different ammo types, barrels, and stocks. You get these through an auction-style bidding system, which is probably the most interesting part of the game. Unfortunately, everything else feels pretty clunky. Movement is stiff, the gunplay doesn’t feel great, and the bots sometimes get stuck in walls or break entirely. It’s not unplayable, but it’s definitely rough. Cool idea with the weapon system, but the rest needs a lot of polish.
