Realm of Khaos

Realm of Khaos is a student project from Abilene Christian University. One of the first things students should be taught in game development is that 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid 1990's with dedicated 3D cards like the Voodoo3 and the ATI Rage. But the students were deliberately mistaught that's it's okay to release obsolete 2D games in the 3D era of gaming... certainly any professional developer seeing a prospective new hire who doesn't even know about 3D gaming probably isn't going to give them a job. Needless to say if an educational institution taught me incorrectly on purpose, I'd ask for my money back. is not to be confused with the 1995 classic platformer, "Realms of Chaos" (which, despite being almost 30 years older than this is better in every respect and that's a problem), is an extremely badly made Christian platformer where you control a guy who kills a bunch of robots, I mean, they have to be lifeless already or we're potentially in a lot of trouble theologically, aren't we. Anyway this is awful, terrible graphics, worse gameplay, and of course, an objective failure. I don't think these students have any chance of getting a professional game development job if they use this for their portfolio... and portfolio is why this was dumped on Steam, it has nothing to do with what's good for gamers. Do as you'd be done by? Nope. We also have to question what value there is for gamers on Steam when institutions flood the store with low quality 2D video game homework assignments... sure, it might make the students feel good about themselves, but this has no benefit for gamers who have to wade through this stuff to find professionally made 3D games. On pricing, this is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.

Игра Realm of Khaos оказалась приятным сюрпризом в жанре RPG. Графика, хоть и пиксельная, выполнена с душой и создает атмосферу классических игр. Сюжет достаточно прост, но полон неожиданных поворотов и интересных персонажей. Боевая система требует тактического подхода, особенно при сражениях с боссами. Разнообразие классов и способностей позволяет создать уникального героя, а система крафта добавляет глубины игровому процессу. Отдельно хочется отметить музыкальное сопровождение – оно отлично передает настроение каждой локации и добавляет эпичности битвам. Из минусов могу отметить некоторую однообразность заданий в середине игры, но это компенсируется увлекательной историей и желанием развить своего персонажа до максимума. В целом, Realm of Khaos – это добротная RPG, которая понравится как фанатам жанра, так и новичкам. Рекомендую!
