Great detective game. Chilling atmosphere with great music and graphics. Recommended!
A new fledgling indie developer is trying to spread his wings with this sierra homage top down crime noir. Within seconds, you should be swept up into the hearty clasp of a nostalgic cult mystery and the foreboding shadowy practice of human trafficking and the string of victims that they will leave in their wake. Currently there is only a prologue and episode 1 available with another 2 episodes promised. Each episode promising about 20 minutes of entertainment with each one promising to be more controversial and grisly than its predecessor. The gritty drama begins with the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) commissioning detective John Rainy to investigate an unusual suicide. Problem is the department is already understaffed and overworked largely because of a string of recent missing kid disappearances. Needless to say, each landmark unlocks secret rooms that will spiral you down a dark rabbit hole about deadly superstition and belief. Creating anything like this using the Angular JS is quite a mean feat. I have no doubt its been an arduous and long journey with many obstacles in his way. While his main intention seems to be growth as a developer, this down to earth, easily approachable, highly imaginative fellow has sweat blood and tears to try and produce a product that will successfully entertain you for at least an hour or so and reel you in wanting to know more. Having said that, his lack of experience, though being easily excusable, is still there. Graphics are rather crude in many ways, coupled with some minor bug issues, grammatical errors and off beat translations will automatically rob you from being totally endorsed in its lore. My biggest beef with the game is simply the lack of character development. Early on in the game you get to meet two characters a pharmacist and barman who practically do nothing than say 'Hi'. It just feels a lot more depth, sub plots and even comical Easter eggs could have been added to improve its playful mood. Other than some creepy text about a deadly warning using people's shoes and some text involving a woman with slit wrists and choke marks their really wasn’t anything particularly dark about the whole thing. Personally I would have much preferred to have seen actual graphical up close pictures of those events like he does with post it notes and the computer screen. Picture of the fridge, wardrobes, the murder weapons and other novelty items would just have added another dimension to the whole game. Furthermore unlocking the hidden rooms was definitely a highlight not knowing what was behind each door, but having each room look pretty much similar to the one you just came from was a slight let down. I wanted something really weird in each room so that it continued to add depth to this bizarre cult I was investigating. In final, a successful introduction to what could be a really promising crime story, but unless he adds more character depth, more Easter eggs, more body count, more really bizarre happenings, then this one will be a rather bland mediocre adventure, one that is not dangerous at all. But hey, who am I to rain on his parade? In truth I really look forward to his next episode and hope he really takes off the brakes and gives us the real thrill ride he has promised. Pretty confident he is worthy of our support. Below is my complete run of the prologue. Should be enough of a sample… https://youtu.be/NUtz2HreXu0 If you enjoyed reading this review please subscribe to one of my curator pages. For 2,99 € this indie game is good (waiting for next two episodes). I was not expecting anything special so I was pleasently suprised how the storyline and melancholic music kept me playing the game.
Currently there is the prologue and episode 1. I really liked the chapters so far, yeah the puzzles aren't really puzzles and more search for the items, but to me that's more realistic in the sense that, that is what a detective would do; search for evidence and then arrest the culprit. Really looking forward to episode 2 and 3 Cx
Tosi ysärihenkinen suomipeli! Rekisteröisin shareware-version ehdottomasti.
Short puzzle adventure, with minimalist graphic. Achievements 100% / 60min. (With guide) Without guide, MUCH longer.)
My thoughts on this game a pretty bittersweet to be honest. Visually, it is definitely going for an older look which takes some getting used to, but I have no gripes against that aspect other than the fonts downright hurting me for some reason. Definitely don't go into it expecting a long ride, but it'll be a neat one....if the bugs don't slap you upside the head. Developer is on point with addressing problems pointed out by community, so bugs are no longer a concern of mine. Definitely high potential Interacting with things is fairly simple. Dialogue, prompts, and finding objects all work off of having a corresponding number displayed. (with the one fairly useless exception being a moment when you browse a PC, which uses a terminal setup, still easy to understand though.) Upsides to the story? It's definitely got potential and while the scenarios are quick and simple, it's still got a nice feel to it. Downsides? Well beware pressing the below text, seriously....it's quite possibly the biggest points of the game right now. two more episodes await release however.
It's pretty erratic. Everything is pretty obvious to figure out, and it's a tad inconsistent. Woman found with strangulation marks and no motive for suicide? clearly a suicide. guy clearly blew his brains out? we better arrest our best detective for having seen the guy that night, he was clearly murdered....but let the detective work on the case. Not to mention most characters remain pretty lifeless.
That unpleasantness behind, I am hopeful to what the next episodes bring, and I'm sure they'll be longer since this is bound to be building up to something later on. Definitely think the game has potential later on, and it's cheap enough you don't exactly need to put much on the line if it doesn't pan out.
Fun little game with decent atmosphere, worth picking up on sale if you're a fan of puzzle/adventure style games
