RaceTrap is an experimental multiplayer racing game developed by GnomeFire Labs Inc. and published by ViewSano Inc. that attempts to expand the traditional racing formula by introducing asymmetrical gameplay roles and strategic trap mechanics. Rather than focusing solely on speed, vehicle handling, and track mastery, the game transforms races into chaotic competitions where the environment itself becomes a weapon. The result is a hybrid experience that blends arcade racing with tactical sabotage, encouraging players to think not only about how fast they can drive but also how they can manipulate the track to disrupt their opponents. The concept of the game revolves around two distinct player roles that coexist during each race. Some participants control vehicles and compete as traditional racers attempting to finish laps around a track while avoiding obstacles and maintaining speed. At the same time, other players take on the role of “trappers,” powerful overseers who influence the race by placing hazards and manipulating the environment. This dual-role system creates a dynamic battlefield where the drivers must navigate both the track and the unpredictable actions of the trappers who are actively trying to sabotage them. From the racer’s perspective, the gameplay resembles an arcade-style driving experience with an emphasis on quick reflexes and precise control. Players must navigate turns, maintain momentum, and avoid the various hazards that appear along the track. Unlike most racing games where obstacles remain fixed or predictable, the track in RaceTrap constantly changes as traps are deployed. Explosions, barriers, and other dangerous effects can suddenly appear in front of racers, forcing them to react quickly in order to avoid losing valuable time or being eliminated entirely. The trapper role introduces a completely different style of gameplay. Instead of controlling a vehicle directly, trappers observe the race from a strategic perspective and use cards representing different traps or abilities. These cards allow them to trigger hazards at specific locations on the track, disrupt racers with sudden environmental effects, or create obstacles designed to slow down leading competitors. The trapper must carefully choose when and where to deploy these abilities, since using them too early or in the wrong location may allow racers to avoid the danger entirely. The card-based trap system adds a layer of strategy that distinguishes RaceTrap from more conventional racing titles. Players acting as trappers can build decks that determine which traps they have access to during a race. Different factions or “tribes” offer unique trap styles and abilities, allowing trappers to customize their approach depending on their preferred tactics. Some strategies focus on direct destruction, while others emphasize slowing racers through environmental manipulation or forcing them into difficult driving situations. Multiplayer interaction forms the heart of the experience. Each race becomes a chaotic contest where racers and trappers compete simultaneously, creating unpredictable scenarios where a race can change dramatically in seconds. Racers must balance aggressive driving with cautious anticipation of traps, while trappers attempt to predict the racers’ movements in order to deploy their abilities at the most effective moments. This constant interplay between the two roles ensures that every race feels dynamic and unpredictable. Because the roles are so different, the game offers multiple ways to engage with its mechanics. Some players may enjoy the adrenaline of racing at high speed while dodging hazards, while others may prefer the strategic challenge of controlling the traps and manipulating the course. This asymmetrical design encourages players to experiment with different roles and playstyles, adding variety to the multiplayer experience. Visually, RaceTrap adopts a stylized art direction that emphasizes bright colors and exaggerated environments. Vehicles and characters are designed with bold shapes and cartoon-like proportions that match the game’s playful tone. The tracks themselves often resemble fantastical arenas rather than realistic racing circuits, reinforcing the idea that these races exist as spectacles created for the amusement of powerful observers within the game’s fictional universe. The visual design also helps communicate the chaotic nature of the gameplay. Explosions, environmental hazards, and trap effects are presented with vibrant visual cues that make it easy for racers to identify dangers quickly. This clarity is important because players must react rapidly to sudden changes in the environment while maintaining control of their vehicles. Sound design complements the fast-paced gameplay with energetic audio feedback. The roar of engines, the sound of collisions, and the explosive activation of traps all contribute to the sense of chaos that defines each race. Audio cues also play a practical role by warning players when hazards are triggered nearby, allowing racers to respond more quickly to sudden threats. Despite its creative ideas, the game is still evolving and shows signs of being a work in progress. As an Early Access project, some aspects of the game feel incomplete or limited compared to fully developed racing titles. The number of tracks, cards, and playable factions remains relatively modest, and the long-term variety of matches may depend on future updates expanding the available content. Another potential challenge lies in the complexity introduced by the game’s asymmetrical structure. New players may initially struggle to understand how the different roles interact, particularly when they first encounter the trap mechanics during races. Learning when to deploy traps or how to anticipate them as a racer requires some experience, and early matches can feel chaotic until players become familiar with the system. The multiplayer focus also means that the overall experience depends heavily on the availability of active players. The game is most enjoyable when multiple racers and trappers are participating in the same match, creating unpredictable and competitive races. When fewer players are available, the dynamic energy of the game can be somewhat reduced. Even with these limitations, RaceTrap stands out as an ambitious attempt to reinvent the racing genre. By introducing strategic trap mechanics and asymmetrical gameplay roles, it transforms the race track into an interactive battlefield where speed and strategy collide. The combination of driving skill and tactical sabotage creates moments that feel fresh compared to more traditional racing games. Ultimately, RaceTrap is an inventive multiplayer experiment that challenges conventional ideas about racing games. Its mixture of arcade driving, card-based strategy, and chaotic environmental hazards offers a unique experience that rewards both quick reflexes and clever planning. While the game still has room to grow as development continues, its core concept already provides a memorable and entertaining twist on the racing genre. Rating: 6/10

I had the pleasure of testing this game in Alpha, the team really took on a lot of the advice that was given and have done a ton of great work to make this game as charming as it is. Fun with friends, and I can see the team adding and improving more as the Early access continues.
The developer of RaceTrap probably abandoned this game because the game never started the race after I chose to join an AI opponent as there was no other player online. There was always a message which displayed "waiting for all players to be ready" in all game types. However, I was ready. The IA opponent was NEVER ready!
Had a lot of fun with my friend snoopy daddy, very nice
