👑 Powered by HoI 4 Deu Curators group in German / English 👑

Follow Main group
Follow Second group
English: ---------------------------> QuantumVR from Szenaris is not a pure science program at all, as I first thought. No, Quantum is a really tricky puzzle game. We are in the sterile laboratory of two nasty pugs who have captured our dear animal friends. To free them again, we have to solve 12 quantum algorithms. This sounds more difficult than it is, as we are guided through the tasks by a nice female AI via voice output. We move through the halls via teleportation and grab the puzzle cubes with the grip function. Did we get the game running first, there is namely something cumbersome, it can only be started on the desktop, even if the HMD is connected and turned on. At first I thought the game was broken. Nevertheless, QuantumVR is a nice little puzzle fun for in between. 👀Quantum Jumps🎊 on my curator page. 👑 Powered by HoI 4 Deu Curators group in German / English 👑

Follow Main group
Follow Second group
QuantumVR is a virtual reality game that teaches you to solve small quantum algorithms by placing simple quantum gates. It worked on my Index, HTC Vive and Meta Quest 3 via Steam Link system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok, was understandable. Puzzle game that involves quantum math. You can sort of figure out the puzzles by trial and error also. Has teleport for VR movement mode. Choice of English or German for language. Maybe try this if you like puzzle and math, or are a quantum physic scientist.
5/10 A quantum computing-themed educational puzzle. Good: - teaches basics of quantum computing - adorable animated models of animals, with "meow" and other sounds So-so: - "dr stinky pants" - cmon, I guess that's cultural difference but it's not funny, more like spoils the first impression. Just better take that out - since it works basically as a first-person shooter, it should let you jump at least. I know there is no point in that but it's so common in any 1st person games that lack of jump feels weird - "E" key stands for "interact" in most FPS games. Here it's shown in the tutorial dialog under the "interact" section but doesn't actually interact! Instead you need to drag the mouse to activate door locks. Instead, E should just open doors and interact with levers, not the mouse. And to rotate the switches, there should be another key. Maybe right mouse click. Btw it's not really "rotate" (since it's not a 90-degree turn) but rather "flip" (like "flip vertically" an image in Photoshop) Bad: - no way to configure mouse sensitivity or sound volume, no options screen. By default, the mouse is way too slow. Also, the narrator's volume is too low - stuck at puzzle 8. It's not explained how "H" affects the switch piece. I tried some random placements to no avail and gave up - it's very annoying that the sequence of numbers is reversed. E.g. "001", instead of meaning that q2 is "1" means that q0 is "1"! I don't know, this probably comes from some convention that exists in this field. But it's just terrible for the game and makes you do a mental conversion all the time. The concept is hard enough already, and then this on top.. What for? - the 3d sphere view is more confusing than helpful. By puzzle 7 I kept forgetting if blue is the current position and black is the required state or it's something else. Besides, the initial puzzle state already has something placed, and these pieces can't be removed, so it's unclear where the current vectors in the sphere come from. Not sure if the game at all says that initially each q is set at "0". And then the black or the blue ones can be semi-transparent. And there are no axes in the sphere.. I's a mess I doubt anyone will play this in VR, or that VR is even relevant these days. So, if I were the dev I wouldn't waste effort trying to make controls VR-optimized or even make this game work in VR at all. PC and mouse are the way, especially given how complicated the topic is (and filters only IQ120+ audience if not higher). Overall, it's a laudable attempt to gamify difficult concepts. But at this point it's just too unfriendly. One needs to playtest this on normal people, not other students who already know quantum computing. And the lack of basic options is just lazy. It may be worth a look if you are smarter than me or already know some quantum computing. Giving an upvote since there is no "neutral" vote. QuantumVR is one of literally thousands of student projects infesting Steam. It's from TU Braunschweig in Germany. While student projects tend to be better quality than most "amateur" made games, we must still question what value such projects have for gamers. As with all student projects, this isn't really a fully fleshed out game, it's just the result of an academic exercise, and as such it has much more limited value as a game than a professionally developed game would have. Educational institutions should not be using Steam as a dumping ground for homework assignments (especially if the students didn't even pass the course). Sure, it helps their marketing and helps the students feel good about themselves, but this is another case of a business putting themselves before the needs of gamers. This is a weird VR tech demo where you solve Quantum problems with Quantum games, and to paraphrase Feynman, "If you ever think you understand quantum theory, you don't." And in the spirit of that, I'd like to say "If you think you'll understand game development by creating a game about quantum physics, you won't." So basically you're in a lab and you have to save animals by solving quantum theory problems by moving blocks around, but in VR. Yeah this isn't making education on quantum theory better, it's just making gaming worse. In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality low poly 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 8 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
QuantumVR, basit kuantum kapıları yerleştirerek küçük kuantum algoritmalarını çözmeyi öğreten bir sanal gerçeklik oyunudur. Ayrıca 2D versiyonu da mevcuttur.
I knew nothing about quantum physics before this and was put off initially in giving it a try, but as it was free I thought I might as well have a go. I am glad I did. It is basically a series of puzzles which are fun in themselves. The animals being saved is a nice touch. If you like puzzles then give it a go. You will find by the end of it you know a bit about quantum physics too! Youtube link on my 'walkthrough'. https://youtu.be/ZRdB2wnTbe0
Super game, super grafik, super tiere
