There is a great, complex yet really fun fps game buried under some bad menus and some really strange marketing decisions. I recently came across of this game because of a youtube video... I actually didn't know much about Quake until very recently (This is important; more on this later), and honestly, it's been really fun!!! The gameplay feels exactly how they sold it to me: Fast, dynamic, fun movement tricks, and oh dear do kills feel satisfying... It's definitely something that other videogames can't really nail or mimic entirely. I also have to agree on the argument that introducing character abilities adds a bit to the player's choice, which can matter a lot to some people. Of course, not everything has been perfect... The menus are very strange, and there's things that in my opinion matter that are missing. For example... There's no game log, no way to watch your or other people's replays, and there's no modding support (Which may or may not have to do with the software used to make the maps, but of course, take that with a grain of salt, I've only been told about that by someone else... haha). But hey, there's a battle pass!!! (Which clearly nobody cares about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). And speaking of bad menus: The servers. One of the main things that I see people complain about is long queue times. You see that little Globe icon at the bottom right part of the main menu? The servers are hidden in there. Enable them. Of course you're never gonna find games if you're only queueing up for one place (If any at all). As someone who lives in Chile, I personally haven't had issues with queue times (I've been playing exclusively on NA servers, and I've only been queueing up for Deathmatch and Instagib). And despite the high-ish ping (Around 140-160 ms), I haven't really had any issues gameplay-wise and my shots register just fine (Which speaks volumes about the netcode, unlike Quake Live. Don't get me wrong, though, I think Quake Live is great). Something else that I find a little jarring too is people complaining about the playerbase. Yeah, the playerbase isn't that big currently, but just because a game doesn't have a playerbase as big as, I don't know, League of Legends? Valorant? It doesn't mean that the game is "dead", not by any means. But I feel like the devs are also somewhat at fault here... Remember how I mentioned that I came across this game only recently? By the time I'm writing this review, Quakecon is currently ongoing, and I don't see ANYBODY talking about it. Any announcements? Ads? Streams? Neither Bethesda or id are talking about it or streaming it!! But we can play devil's advocate here for a second, let's say they are talking about it and announced it... somewhere. Where then? Why is it that I just cannot find any important mention of e-sports or events anywhere? Is it in the patch notes? Am I not looking hard enough??? Even my friend that is really into Quake had no idea that Quakecon was this month. It almost feels like the devs gave up on this game, which isn't a great look. There's just no way to find out about Quake without someone else telling you about it!! of course the playerbase is going to be low!!!!!!! duh!!!!!!!!!!! Also, if i'm not mistaken, I think Quake Champions was a paid game at some point too? I don't think they did a great job at announcing/marketing that either, because, for the longest time, I just didn't know about this game. None of my friends knew either. tl;dr hop on quake oomfie i want to get railed (with a railgun) games free too lol

Damn, this game is so fun... I'm just sad I find it so late... It gives me full Quake 3 Arena feeling, but on steroids, much better graphics, double jump, special powers based on your character. Damn, it's so good.
Make Quake2 again, but updated. I haven't seen a good arena twitch shooter since. Remember Action Quake 2? Yaknow the mod that created CSGO? Take a hint.
real fun when it still had an active community that wasnt just sweats and hackers
My gateway drug into arena shooters. Great gameplay, soundtrack and overall vibes. Shame it doesn't get many players anymore. Matchmaking w/ barely any players is a no-go, and without a server browser or mod support this game will remain in purgatory, and I doubt this game'll ever get that. Still giving it a thumbs up - it is a great game and a great arena shooter despite what some purists/gatekeepers like to parrot, and I hope another game will take its place some day.
Meh.
Loaded it. Sat in queue for 9 mins and quit.
