Reviewed using HTC Vive Pro
So it's all in a days work at LAB "C" 💉 We splice up oh Georgie Boy and send him out on Field Tests 🐵 George, George, George of the jungle strong as he can be 💪 (Ahhhhhhhh) Watch out for that gene❗
Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers
Note: Game is not optimized for Touch Controllers. Describes Vive wands for all interactions. You have to click on the joystick and move motion controller up and down to move forward. So this is another Kaiju / destruction game in VR. However, this game has a lot more depth than any other destruction VR game because of all the genetic variations and challenges. This game will get you sweating. I had to tap out after 1 hour. I was sweating all over the place. I do recommend a full roomscale setup or else the challenges will be more difficult than they need to be. I did find the game to be clunky overall, even though it was fun at times. I did not like the Touch controls. Having to press down on joystick is leading to my hands feeling pretty cramped at this moment. The visuals were just okay. I mean your ape hands look awesome. But the game world looks pretty dull and uninspired. Smashing down on buildings also didn't feel all that great. I mean it's fun to throw stuff at buildings. But it seems you can't even bring down smaller buildings. The vehicle destruction, on the other hand, is awesome with appropriate looking explosion animations. I also like how you can grab almost anything in the world. I just wish there was more fun stuff to grab like people .. obviously. The game is free. It's an advertisement for an upcoming movie. Great job marketing team! I now want to see this movie after seeing all the Kaijus and different mutations possible. Does porcupine quills sound fun on a giant ape? Yes, yes it does! Rate 7/10. Must download if you want to relieve some stress after a hard day!
The devs fixed the issue and i was able to get back to rampaging. The game is very fun and though it's not perfect, who cares about the tiny details when you get to be a giant gorilla smashing everything?
Its free and decent graphics. Feels very beta. Needs a jump mechanic as well as a refined turning ability. Both could be acheivied with the current configuration. The throwing mechanic may be the best I've tried in any VR game and I have tried almost all. Big props to whoever came up with that. I also got stuck in the lab after first mission. Give this a couple months and hope for a multiplayer combat mode(like original) and the game could have a real shot at being a classic.
This is a very poorly implemented promotional experience. I played for a total of 10 minutes before uninstalling it. In the 10 minutes I played I got to experience some of the worse motion controls since the Nintendo Wii. The gorillas' arms and hands were not in line or in synch with my own. The movement systems which mimicked arm swing was inconsistent and messy. The graphics (which I usually don't nitpick about) were inconsistent with a mixture of high res to low res assets. My experience consisted of 4 extremely short missions that were timed at 2 minutes but were all completed in less than 1 minute. This title is complete rubbish that belongs on the movie website, Trash like this makes VR look bad and does not belong on Steam.
Overall: Excellent FREE game. You can't go wrong with this one! This is a lot of fun. Rampaging through Chicago and Paris as a giant ape and other creatures. You get different DNA sequences to upgrade yourself in the lab to increase traits like strength, stamina, speed, etc. Then you go into the city to try the new sequence(s) in a timed test or combat session. Yes, it is a relatively basic, short game, but I've paid for VR games like this, and this one is FREE! You can't go wrong now that it has been updated. There may still be bugs, but I've completed 12+ levels and haven't seen any.
As others have said, no way to activate the second mission. Too bad because I enjoyed rampaging around in the first mission. Played with Vive. Edit: -Changing my review to positive. With the problem now fixed I have had some fun smashing through the 2 cities. There is some fun to be had for the cheap price of free. Its a bit clunky and a few glitches here and there but just running through the city and climbing buildings makes it worth the download.-
Project Rampage VR is a free VR game written for the movie Rampage coming out in April 20. It worked on my HTC Vive, Quest 3 via Steam Link, and Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. The locomotion is different from other games. You hold down on 1 trackpad and move that controller up and down for walk and use both controllers for sprint and climbing. With the speed and movement i was doing, i didn't feel sick. You can destroy maps of Chicago and Paris. You started with George the Ape, then i guess you can unlock the Wolf and Lizard. You grind quick matches to unlock dna choices and slots to put the dna in. The timed modes of play are: race through city to checkpoints, destroy stuff for points, hunt down fighting units. Then there is a rampage mode where you have to earn points before you die from being attacked. Makes good arms exercise. Looks like you have a good many hours of game play. Warning: Can cause motion sickness, maybe on the Vive. Try it, you may like it.
There's more depth to this than I expected, and it's pretty fun, so I recommend it since it's free. It would be worth a few bucks too.
Sprint / Climb not working on the Vive Walk (holding D-Pad and swinging on 1 controller) works OK but run / climb (holding D-Pad and swinging on BOTH controllers) does not work. It just crouches down and puts both fists on the ground. Swinging the controllers makes it crawl slowly forward. I can't get past the tutorial part because I can't sprint or climb the building. This game appears to have been abandoned by the devs.
