Since there hasn't been a good sim Footy game in like forever, this goofy arcade Footy game is the best way to enjoy a digital kick right now. Once I realized the "mash" on the center bounce wasn't actually mashing, and instead more like a quicktime event, I starting winning some ball ups, though they aren't vital to do well. The change character logic is probably my only complaint right now, though I've gotten used to its jank enough that I can managed. Overall, this is a solid indie title worth the small price tag if the concept interests you at all. Games are quick enough for me that even a bad beat (like the opponent grabbing a meat pie, triggering a sudden golden goal, and winning the game a few seconds later) isn't a big deal. Heck my first game, I was down by 23 points and won by getting the swap score card in quarter four, so :P 8.5 / 10 for me.
This is easiliet the stupidest, random, nonsense game I have played in a really long time. It's stupid, and you have no idea what is going on, and it seems to be pretty random around needing any skill at all. I sucked so bad in my first game and then, got some stuff, and somehow won. Honestly, it is really dumb. But I giggled and laughed, and asked out loud to no one wtf is going on lots and lots and ♥♥♥♥ mate, like ♥♥♥♥, it's so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fun. Don't be a dumb ♥♥♥♥, get it. Get it now. Get it right now. No, go and skull a beer, then get it. Or don't. Unskull a beer, your weirdo puke lover, idc, whatever gets you off. Just. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, Buy. It. ♥♥♥♥. Trust me mate, can't go wrong. It really sucks in all the good ways, iykwim, ey?

Finally a game that gets just how absurd footy is. Gameplay is incredibly solid but have been most struck by how funny it is. Thank Goodness You're Here by way of Australiana, having a ton of joy with the bit of the cultural cringe that comes with looking at this cooked country. Port Noarlunga Chips my beloved
Hard to give it a recommend when it feels like it should be in Early Access still. For the positives the commentary by Broden is good and the overall comedy vibe works. There are some good ideas for the jank power ups. You could probably get some fun out of it as a couch party game with mates but it is awful solo. On the bad side - The AI is attrocious, your players actively avoid the footy and if you do pick it up you will be pinged holding the ball immediately. Missing some needed QOL features (for example in one mode I can't see what power ups are in play when you pick them at the beginning - in all modes just make them visible on pause) Definitely needs feedback and further work. Hopefully the devs stick with it because there is a decent game with a few updates/fixes
I'm an absolute fiend when it comes to AFL games, have played all of them since AFL Live 2004. With the more recent games developed by Big Ant Studios, I find it frustrating that there isn't any real competition/alternative in this niche market. Although it won't compete with the likes of AFL 26 and it's presentation, I believe Pro Jank Footy is a much needed breathe of fresh air for footy fans in the video game space. The game has reminded me that developers don't need to fork out tons of cash for licensing and realistic looking player models, in order to create a fun footy experience. I see huge potential with Pro Jank footy, but I do feel some kinks need to me ironed out and some features could be enhanced to really bring out this game's full potential. It nails the retro aesthetic and the fast paced gameplay style similar to the likes of NBA Jam. The representation of Aussie culture and colloquialism in this game is fantastic too (case and point the team names and commentary), it really nails the vibe of old school footy. I personally like that there is a normal match mode along with the pro jank footy mode, it gives you that option if you'd like to change it up and play a more traditional style of match. Playing with a mate/friend was absolutely bonkers, the two of us were losing our minds trying to anticipate the next powerup or thing that the game would throw at us. It made each match we played completely different from the last, which kept it fresh and replayable. Matchmaking NEEDS to be properly invested into this game, it'll help with the games lifespan. I wasn't a fan of the CRT Filter, I get that it adds to the retro arcade vibe but it's terrible on the eyes. I turned that off in the menu at the start, can only imagine how rancid that would look while a bunch of crazy ♥♥♥♥ goes flying across the screen during a match. On that note, I wouldn't be surprised if anyone felt a tad nauseated and strained after playing for awhile even with that filter turned off. I also experienced a few frozen screens and crashes, especially during the season mode. I've had 3 attempts at season mode, twice on the Xbox One Version and once on Steam. On all three occasions I would get about half way through on the season mode until it would crash, meaning I had to restart the season mode from beginning. Not a deal breaker, but would be pretty sick if they included some type of custom team maker. I can see players using such a feature to add to the already unique and clever roster of teams included in the game. Overall, this is a solid effort for an indie game centered around AFL. I'm hoping footy fans give it a chance and don't take themselves too seriously when playing the JANK.
A very good arcade representation of Australia's best sport However there is an issue I'm having with the game. During gameplay, screen tearing is very noticeable during movement and after taking longer kicks. Hopefully it can be fixed in a future update
This game has great potential but it is rough reccomending it right now. The switching is weird, some powerups are essentially runending and others are extremely unfun (for me its most of the ones that slow me down tbh, feels like I cant do anything). When this game works it works great but maybe wait for some updates or a bigger sale for the current version. Its still good enough where Im gonna leave a positive review but please give this game some more support and attention, I believe it can be much better and become absolutely amazing.
Honestly just so bloody fun! It's retro, it's hilarious, it's unhinged, it's FOOTY. Probably the best footy game you'll play and I'm getting all my non-footy mates into it as well. Great as a loner, best with a mate. Basically you bash the other player in tackles, and when you kick a goal, the other player gets a power-up. The game can flip on it's head instantly, and it gets more wild as you go through. The animation and humour are top notch. I'd watch 10 minutes of cut scenes if I could. And Broden Kelly commentating... One hundo percento.
