Meh. The art lacks coherent direction and is a mess. Size of the pixels themselves and the color palette of textures are all too varied, boss battle sprites look like they were done by 4 different people who tried to do their own thing and in weird colors. It's almost like someone back in 1991 originally drew them to use in Commodore 64 or something. And jpeg artifacts are commonly seen and give the game unpolished rushed look. Should've stuck with cleaner, simpler small sprites like how McPixel games did, the general graphics would've been a lot prettier had they chosen to follow that path. The game itself is nothing special. It offers two modes: Vanilla and Play Hard. In Vanilla you mash the displayed buttons at the right moment, typical rhythm game stuff. Play Hard mode is a bit different, you'll need to select between your assigned groups and attract people on the sidewalk to grow the size of your parade and defend them from hate groups by... mashing the displayed buttons at the right moment. You have to constantly switch and move the groups around and in all honesty, I felt this mode is way too tedious, you barely have any moment to rest your fingers till the song ends. But you can't just type the prompts as fast as you can, no. You'll also need to pace your inputs. If you press directional keys too quickly in succession, the game will straight flag them as incorrect prompts and consider all inputs as wrong ones for a second even if you pressed the right keys. This becomes a huge issue in Play Hard mode and a minor issue in boss battles. I encountered another strange bug, in which the sweet zone having a delayed position halfway through the round meaning I had to draw an imaginary line on the monitor and play the rest of the round keep reminding myself of its real position. I approve the message, but with the game of quality this low, I'm not sure if it is really helping the cause or not. Yes, part of this game's proceeds are going to the donation bin but even if you really want to support the message this game is conveying just drop your $15 to your local organization, cause this one's beyond saving.
Starting with the most important information: I do recommend this game because it's enjoyable, but there's currently a game-breaking bug. The penultimate level in Play Hard mode always locks up at the end; this locks out the final level and several achievements. Caveat emptor. (Also it seems the Buenos Aires level on Vanilla, Vicious difficulty, doesn't record scores. Not sure currently whether this affects achievements or not.) Pride Run is genuinely fun, colourful, amusing and has a great soundtrack. "Vanilla" mode is a straightforward rhythm-matching game. "Play Hard" mode, which revolves around rearranging parade groups and using their special abilities, is the Dark Souls of LGBTQ+ rhythm games. I cannot overstress how difficult it can be until you finally get the hang of using shields and conserving the best abilities for when it counts. Sadly I suspect that as the game is several years old now, the aforementioned bug won't be fixed. Will update review if it is.
+ for idea + for message + music - rythm games are not my cup of tea - i was so focused on moves that i couldn't see anything that was going on on screen ------ Quite enjoyable game if you're into rhythm games.
My impression 30 minutes in: The tutorial text boxes need back buttons. The tutorials are janky and move at a snail's pace. But beyond that, this game is amazing. There is an entire 2nd game mode (Party Hard) that is actually more fun than the main rhythm mode. Game is a little awkward, but has a ton of unlockable characters.
This game is a fun rhythm game but i end up enjoying what is happening more than the gameplay, but what is happening is so entertaining that i dont mind that the gameplay feels a little bit lackluster. also it is funny to see cishets like donald trump get gay-ified.
Super fun, super gay, super going to be a game I play forever.
Da pra derrotar o bolsonaro na praça da sé Sendo um jogo não br ta mais que bom com essa referencia
Bisogna prenderci la mano all'inizio ma è un gioco divertente che vale il più del prezzo di acquisto!!
I like the game. It’s smart and gives joy. I like a soundtrack too. Music is wonderfull and I want to listen to songs over and over!
Pride run is a sparkly and cute LGBTQ+ themed rhythm game, which takes the form of a pride parade through various prominent cities across the globe, followed by a "boss fight" at the end of each run against a satirization of what I can only assume are well-known homophobes. At least, that's the first game mode. The second game mode, called "Play Hard", I am far too smooth-brained to understand, let alone complete. Obviously, I won't be discussing that mode here. The "Vanilla" mode is decent for a rhythm game, although I'm pretty sure there's no way to customize the controls, which is only a minor drawback. The aesthetic is fantastic, while the music is on the better side of mediocre. The in-game music, I mean. The main menu music is more in line with the overall aesthetic of the game, which I mean in the best way possible. I'm only a tiny bit surprised that they didn't do something similar with the level themes. I have no comment on the "Play Hard" mode, simply because I couldn't play it. 10/10
