Overall, 4/10.
Everything individually (water, characters, plants, ground) is very beautiful and visually appealing. Looks like a lovely, cozy game where you're a little mouse delivering surface level letters. The dialogue could use some review (some grammar/spelling mistakes, unrealistic/strange dialogue, and the sister mouse constantly repeating herself with different formatting--i.e. kept saying she's the sister (we get it), player must come home for dinner (which oddly we never do at the end?), and how the mouse siblings are going to kidnap us?--It was so odd.), but I didn't expect the actual game to be so frustrating and unrealistic and depressing(?). Everything was extremely icy and slippery, making it so difficult to land where you're supposed to. It was so difficult navigating the very uncertain jumps and sensitive edges. The barriers made the iciness *SO* much worse! They were so difficult and irritating to understand. I could stand inside a rock platform one moment, then jump and slide off a tree trunk to my death. I personally think the amount of death/hints at death in the game was somewhat morbid. Though I understand this game is intended to look realistic, the way the mouse drowns and its hat and bag float to the surface was a bit much. Especially with the assorted depressing children's drawings about the homeowner of the mansion dying. I understand it's to show a story and that someone lived there, but it just made my whole experience so much more negative. I was looking for a comforting, cozy game. This was NOT at all it. I also don't understand why we had to read each and every letter. There was very little delivery aspect, just mostly annoying and confusing/uncertain puzzles. The entire atmosphere of the mansion was sad and depressive, which made for a very negative experience. I do love the blueprint and build of the adjusting bed, but that's really all. A cool detail that could've been added is being able to walk on the chords! But everything mostly just led me to my death--even from the shortest heights!! I'd appreciate this game so much more if there was a little mechanic where if you almost fall off the edge of something, the mouse could pull himself back up! Mice aren't nearly this fragile. The water was somewhat bothersome, especially when somehow I drowned INSIDE of a ROCK? that I later used just fine. So really just some bugs and so so many barrier issues. I wish it was easier to see where the water was near the edge of the river. The minimap was completely useless. I feel that the world itself was much too large for what the game actually is. The camera sensitivity is SO high, even turned all the way down. It was annoying to navigate and I REALLY wish we could zoom out. This game overall was VERY clunky and uncertain.
Another point I'd like to make is how extremely frustrating and annoying the cat chase scene was. I think it should have clearer instructions and *BARRIERS* again!!!! Not only that, but if you die two thirds of the way through, it's so difficult to get the timing right to where you can sprint. If you hold shift too early, you just move slow and get killed instantly. But if you hold it too late, the same issue happens. This scene was so difficult and frustrating, but also pretty stressful. The ending was confusing too.
The lighting in the mansion is beautiful, but that's the only positive comment I have about it. The first delivery is somewhat cute, but everything past that was just difficult and frustrating for someone with an average attention span and high patience. Would not recommend. It was okay for a free student project! But I would not play again. The ending was very serene and peaceful, and calmed me after the big chase. That was the most enjoyment I got out of the entire game.

cute, like the graphics, and the story is nice. my only complaint is the chase scene was a little confusing to navigate and i had to complete it with my controller rather then my keyboard
Postmouse is a charming adventure-platformer developed by Critters Collective and published by The Animation Workshop. Created as a student project, it demonstrates an impressive level of creativity and polish, delivering a memorable experience that combines exploration, environmental storytelling, and heartfelt themes. Rather than relying on grand battles or complex progression systems, the game focuses on a small but meaningful journey through a beautifully imagined world viewed from the perspective of a tiny mouse. The story follows a young and inexperienced mail carrier embarking on their first delivery route beyond the safety of their hometown. What begins as a simple postal assignment gradually evolves into a tale about courage, curiosity, and personal growth. The protagonist’s role as a messenger provides a refreshing narrative foundation, emphasizing communication and connection rather than conflict. As players travel across the wilderness surrounding an abandoned mansion, they meet a variety of residents whose personalities and stories help bring the world to life. These encounters give the adventure emotional warmth and make every delivery feel important. One of the game's greatest strengths is its setting. The abandoned mansion and its surrounding landscape are transformed into a vast world when viewed through the eyes of a mouse. Everyday objects become towering landmarks, while overgrown vegetation and forgotten machinery create a fascinating blend of nature and technology. The teslapunk-inspired aesthetic gives the environment a distinctive identity, making exploration consistently rewarding. Every area feels handcrafted, with visual details that encourage players to look beyond the main path and appreciate the world’s hidden stories. Gameplay revolves around exploration, platforming, and environmental puzzles. The controls are straightforward and accessible, allowing players to focus on discovering new locations and solving obstacles rather than mastering difficult mechanics. Puzzles are integrated naturally into the environment, requiring observation and clever thinking without becoming overly complicated. The platforming sections strike a comfortable balance between challenge and accessibility, making the adventure suitable for both casual players and genre enthusiasts. While the mechanics do not reinvent the genre, they are polished and enjoyable throughout the entire experience. Exploration is further enhanced by a collectible stamp system. Hidden throughout the world are stamps that can be gathered and exchanged for additional artwork and lore. This encourages players to thoroughly investigate every corner of the map and rewards curiosity with deeper insight into the game's development and setting. Completionists will appreciate the extra incentive to search beyond the main objectives, while art enthusiasts will enjoy seeing more of the creative work behind the project. Visually, Postmouse exceeds expectations for a student-developed title. The environments are colorful and detailed, the character designs are expressive, and the overall presentation captures a sense of wonder that remains consistent from beginning to end. The soundtrack and ambient audio complement the visuals perfectly, creating a cozy atmosphere that enhances both exploration and storytelling. Together, the audio and visual design help establish an experience that feels far more ambitious than its modest scope might initially suggest. The game's most noticeable weakness is its relatively short length. Players who enjoy lengthy adventures with extensive customization, combat systems, or deep progression mechanics may find themselves wishing for more content. Some of the ideas and locations are compelling enough that they could easily support a larger game. However, the concise structure also ensures that the adventure remains focused and avoids unnecessary repetition. Every area introduces something new, allowing the pacing to remain engaging throughout the journey. Ultimately, Postmouse succeeds because of its sincerity. It transforms a simple premise into an adventure filled with charm, wonder, and genuine heart. The game excels at creating a believable miniature world, encouraging exploration while delivering a positive message about stepping beyond one's comfort zone. Although it may not offer the complexity or length of larger commercial releases, it more than compensates with creativity, atmosphere, and personality. For players who enjoy relaxing exploration games, thoughtful environmental design, and uplifting stories, Postmouse is a delightful experience that leaves a lasting impression. Rating: 8/10
