For and early access game its, fine leaning on not being a good first impression. The games music is broken and continues playing at the loudest volume possible, the loading and performance is heavily unoptimized to the point where even my 1070 and i7 seem stressed. The hit registration is confusing and inconsistent as hell when you think you should hit or be hit by a melee weapon, it doesnt land, not to mention most guns dont sound or hit the way you would think, a shotgun seems to fire as if it was a semi automatic assault rifle without any power, it feels like its shooting 5.56 or 9mm rounds. The spells have no impact and aren't explained either. If you want to go in barehanded you cant even attack. The loading of levels is just strange and laggy. Nothing really motivates me to move forward, and this first impression has been a very sour one so far. I can't recommend this game so far although it looks like it can have potential. Don't take this the wrong way but i've been keeping an eye out on this game and it look interesting, i want it to succeed but in its current state it leaves much to be desired even in early access compared to the other games i have played.
На данном этапе игра представляет из себя техно.демо. Не играбельно.

I really wanted to like this game given its similarity to hotline miami, as well as looking really gorgeous, but there are just too many things wrong with it for this to be currently sold out of early access. Some examples being, the game being 20gb when it can be compressed down to 10gb through Compactor, it being incredibly unoptimized (my 1060,i7-7k, 16gb of ram rig struggling to push out 50-60 fps), not being able to turn off/turn down the repetitive music even though theres an option in settings(!), melee weapons feeling incredibly clunky, and falling out of the literal map. On the other hand, I will say that there are some really good aspects about the game such as the previously mentioned graphics being really pretty and some of the mechanics are kind of interesting. However in its current state I feel the dev has just rushed the gun on marketing this spaghetti code, and if he really felt that he wanted to make it great, his plan should have been making some version of this a free demo and THEN publish a polished game, instead of the current mess that it is. However, I suspect that this game has ultimately been abandoned given there havent been any updates since april of this year (and it was published of january of this year), but I suppose time will tell. Edit: As of october he has said he intends to release a final patch and make the game free, so I'm glad to see that I was wrong in the fact that this isnt abandonware.
"Portal Defect" is a mediocre and rather unpolished/badly optimised 3D rendered 2D top down brawler with some lightweight RPG elements. The game features no proper level design or game/story flow/plot, as they opted to try to use samey repetitive procgen algorithms as a substitute for adding such content to the game. As a result, the game doesn't actually have any content worth mentioning, just endless, boring, repetitive, soulless algorithmically generated sameyness. Developers must learn that procedural generation is not an acceptable substitute for content. The graphics in this game are really quite good, which at least makes the game look more appealing (I'm assuming these aren't flipped assets... if they are then we have a problem). And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging $1 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It's a nice gesture for the game to be given away for free, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. It's also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who paid money to the dev to try support the development process. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
Can't play, controls broken
It crashed on medium settings :3
Before I played Portal Defect, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
"Defect" is most certainly an appropriate word for this mess of a game because everything about it is defective. Optimization is terrible and it has some of the worst control issues I have ever encountered. Forget about using a keyboard because you must use the arrow keys to face a certain direction then WSAD to move in that direction. Even using a controller is highly awkward. Also forget about playing in 4k resolution because I was getting frame rates in the low 30s with an RTX2080 and i9 processor no matter what graphic setting. Playing in 1080p also looked blurry to me. The music slider and music off option also do absolutely nothing, so there is no way to turn off the incredibly annoying music. There are also some really long loading screens that seem as if the game has locked up your pc until you are finally allowed to continue. And for some reason, this game takes up more than 20gb of hard drive space. There is also no way to pause or save the game, so when you die you must start completely over. I also found no way of replenishing ammo. Although by then I was extremely ready to uninstall this awful game. I cannot recommend this game at all, even when it's free. It's that bad.
