3.9/10 - Retro, Amateur Pixel Platformer Price is a relevant factor when doing my reviews. $5 for this must be some kind of joke; the acceptable price for a rough pixel game such as this is approximately $0-1. Nothing new invented here; there are far better and cheaper platformers out there. My main issue was with the controls, they were imprecise to say the least. If you want to jump to the next platform you have to really exaggerate the motion to successfully make it. There is no room for quick reactions that can save you from dying. I just like to have complete control of my character; losing because the controls are wonky is an automatic ‘thumbs down’. I know the sequel has been Greenlit... but how? and why? Health meter is pointless, as the only viable threats to the player are instant death pits and spikes. Enemies lack any sense of threat or aggression; they just passively follow fixed patterns instead of actively trying to attack the player. Music is amateurish and dull to the point of making The Demon Rush sound good by comparison. All songs use the same riffs that you'll forget the moment you turn off the game. Alt+tabbing causes the graphics to glitch out for the remainder of your play session. It's like someone who hated the NES decided to make a shallow mockery of the system, though a more likely scenario is that this is just the dev's first project which he decided to sell for real money, reputation be damned. Maybe one day he'll go on to make something good, but Porradaria Upgrade is not that thing.

Well, this game is bad just a bit too much. First level is fine, boss battle is fun, but in later levels things go down the toilet very fast. I've managed to go to the big flying robot boss (whatever that is or is supposed to be) and then just stopped playing. That level is insane. What's fun: - retro feeling - enemies - powerups - second character - game is dexterity based What's not fun: - instant death caltrops - if you touch them you die - turbo pidgeons (or whatever that birds are) - during some levels there are pidgeons travelling horizontally at random. That would not be a problem if those enemies were not so turbo fast. Imagine that you jump on some blocks very high and you need to perform some rather precise jumps. You jump and then turbo pidgeon hits you and boom, you fall down or into instant death caltrops. No fun here. - suicide gremlins in level 2 combined with many pitfalls in that level - I just prefer to skip this level by going straight right into the secret passage - 5 euros for this game? This might have been a fun mediocre game but it's too hard due to randomness. ---------- For anyone interested in joining in on completing your own backlog; check it out here - http://steamcommunity.com/groups/completingthebacklog/discussions/5/530645446320364338/
Overpriced and fairly amateuristic pixel game. One of the most annoying things are the controls. They seem completely random and don't even work all the time. I can't really recommend this game.
There's a lot of retro pixel 2d platformers. Some of them try to be stylised about their pixel art, others try to be authentic, this is the latter. The controls are janky, it's really not fun to play because of the clunkiness. The game is kind of glitchy too, you can stand over samurai archers and they shoot arrows backwards, enemies just respawn indefintely so you can just kill them endlessly although there's not much in that. The jumping obstacles aren't fun, either. I played better games on the C64.
I'm not quite sure how I ended up with this game, or when I bought/received it, but decided to take some time to see what it had to offer. To summarize the whole game in one sentence, it's basically a poor imitation of the old Shinobi games. It's a game created using Game Maker, which in and of itself isn't a sin, but does nothing to hide the fact that it was created using this software. It looks, sounds, and plays "like a Game Maker game". Interpret that however you wish. Originally, Porradaria was offered for $4.99, which I believe was excessive for the quality and content of the game, though its current price of $2.99 is closer to being reasonable. (Especially if it is on sale for less.) Before getting into the negatives I'll share what I enjoyed about the game. The levels, while simple, are not linear. The second stage has a shortcut to the fourth one, for example, and the desert stage has an alternate route for you to find. The bosses are also simplistic but have patterns like a classic console game which are fun to figure out. Once you figure out their patterns though, what little challenge the game had disappears. The unlockable second character offers an alternate way to play the game; it's not necessarily a great experience but it makes you look at each level with a new perspective. The music in the game is not that great, it sounds like MIDI music. For a game that's supposed to be an homage to retro classics the music doesn't fit at all. Additionally, the visuals don't match any particular "era" or invoke a nostalgic feeling of any particular system. Pixel art does not automatically equate to "the 90's". The humor/plot of the game is also severely dated and belongs in early 00's era "random" Web humor. The power-ups are neat but the shield is so broken that you can literally defeat every single boss with it by standing in a certain area and jumping repeatedly. The unlockable character is also a nice touch, but his ability to double jump breaks the levels; you can tell the stages were not originally designed to be played in this manner. There are some other gripes I have about the game but they are more nebulous like the bounce trampolines seemingly not working all the time. Sometimes you'll bounce when you land on one, sometimes you'll fall right through it. The shield power-up also fails to work if you are moving at speed and run into a fast enemy (such as a bird or elf) moving in the opposite direction. Those issues are circumstantial and uncommon however, and aren't really major complaints. Overall, when it comes down to a yes or no answer, Porradaria Upgrade is not a game that I can recommend. If it's in a bundle or on sale or something maybe it's worth checking out as a novelty, but as a standalone game there's a lot left to be desired.
The game is made based on older games like Mario or Contra . The number of lives at times does not affect the passage , control a little inconvenient , but it is possible with the correct updates . The game is perfect for memories of the past or childhood . Definitely recommend to buy it , it's worth it !
