Poker Clicker

Poker Clicker is a surprisingly addictive little incremental game, and I liked how quickly it turns poker into a simple score chasing loop. Every click deals me a fresh poker hand, and suddenly I am staring at combinations and trying to push my chip total higher. It is a very simple concept, but I found myself wanting to click just one more time to see what hand would come next. The main mechanic is extremely easy to understand. Every deal gives me a new five card hand, and stronger combinations produce better scores. I can then spend my accumulated Deals on upgrades that improve the value of different hands. I liked the way this turns familiar poker combinations into something closer to an arcade scoring system rather than a traditional card game. The upgrade system is where the incremental side becomes more interesting. I can improve the multipliers attached to different hand types and make choices about when to spend my Deals and when to save them for additional power. I enjoyed thinking about whether a short term upgrade would help more than holding onto my resources for a bigger boost later. There are also permanent perks that can be unlocked through collecting specific card combinations, giving me another reason to pay attention to what I am drawing. The Steam Workshop and built in card collection add another layer for players who enjoy collecting things. I also liked the global leaderboard because it gives the score chasing side of the game a clear goal. My biggest issue is that the gameplay can become repetitive quite quickly. The basic loop is satisfying, but it is still essentially clicking, dealing hands and buying upgrades. After the initial excitement wears off, the lack of more substantial gameplay can make it difficult for me to stay interested for long sessions. The random card drops also feel more like a collection gimmick than something I really need for the core game. I also think the presentation could have more personality. The colorful card theme works well, but there is not much happening beyond the numbers and progression systems. The concept is strong enough to carry the game, though, and I appreciate that it does not bury the simple clicker formula under unnecessary complexity. Overall, Poker Clicker is a fun little incremental game that makes good use of poker as its central scoring mechanic. I enjoyed building multipliers, chasing better hands and gradually watching the numbers climb. It can become repetitive and there is not much depth outside the progression loop, but for short relaxing sessions it does exactly what I want from a clicker. Rating: 6.8/10
