Fun and brutal puzzle platformer with annoying bugs and repetitive steps after death.
The story might seem grim because you are playing a pig who will be slaughtered sooner or later. Fortunately, one renegade pig manages to burst through the fence and save you and your friends from the awful fate. This is where you gain control. The main goal is to escape from the butcher while solving environmental puzzles.
You do not need to worry about too many keys. Aside from basic movement, you just need to worry about jumping and pushing/pulling objects. Your single unique skill is to "stick" to a surface when pressed down.
Butcher doesn’t run after you all the time so you’re not forced to move fast during puzzles, but there are quite a few chase sequences where you have to use the environment to get away. The game is fair because it saves before each challenge.
The pig is hacked up into pieces when caught so the game can be violent. Especially because it takes place in a processing plant with meat everywhere. You will also notice that many of your pig buddies do not make it to the end, especially because your actions frequently result in their deaths.
Stages are straightforward and don’t offer any exploration. Challenges feature basic platforming, such as jumping over obstacles or using the environment. This usually requires you to push a crate over a hazard, build or use a platform to reach a higher position, or activate a switch.
New content is added on a regular basis, and you may occasionally need to utilize a friendly pig to set off a trap, allowing you to get through. Later, you will obtain a secondary character who can fly around.
Unfortunately, this makes puzzles frustrating. Because they contain several steps involving both characters, you will have to redo everything in the event of failure or death. Death happens quickly, and you can even make puzzles unsolvable.
Or you can run into bugs that break puzzles. In one case, the pig went invisible; in another, it lost its animation and slid on the floor instead of walking; or a platform may abruptly stop working. Bugs frequently appear when you respawn at a checkpoint after dying and do not go away even when you restart the game from the main menu. Most issues can only be resolved by exiting and relaunching the game.
Unfortunately, there is one that cannot be fixed. It involves a conveyor belt that can go in both directions, but when you pull the lever, the belt accelerates unnaturally, making the puzzle impossible to solve.
