Nice-looking story game. Definitely worth a try, the price is tiny even without sales.
Nice! I love intro cinematics. I wish it were more of a Visual Novel than a platformer. I hope the developer moves forward and creates amazing story-driven games!
Pholee is a delightful indie adventure that combines platforming, puzzle-solving, and narrative exploration into a relaxing experience centered on memories and the passage of time. Developed and published by DarkMistStudio, the game distinguishes itself through a creative premise involving a magical Time Camera that allows travel through photographs. Rather than focusing on action or combat, it invites players into a colorful world filled with mystery, personal stories, and environmental challenges that reward curiosity and observation. The game's strongest feature is its imaginative concept. Players embark on a journey to recover the missing Time Camera while exploring a series of beautifully crafted locations connected through photographs. This unique approach transforms ordinary exploration into something more meaningful, as each destination feels like a preserved memory waiting to be uncovered. The narrative unfolds gradually through encounters with various characters, each contributing pieces of the larger story while adding emotional depth to the adventure. The focus on memories and personal connections gives the experience a warm and heartfelt atmosphere that remains engaging throughout the journey. Visually, Pholee embraces a charming hand-drawn art style that perfectly complements its whimsical themes. The environments are vibrant and inviting, with fifteen distinct locations offering a variety of scenery and moods. One particularly clever design element is how areas become increasingly colorful as progress is made, creating a sense of growth and discovery that mirrors the story itself. The artwork successfully captures a storybook-like quality, making exploration consistently rewarding even when players are simply taking in the scenery. Gameplay revolves around exploration and environmental puzzles, with the day-and-night mechanic serving as the central feature. Players can experience locations under different conditions, and these shifts directly affect puzzle solutions and available paths. This mechanic adds variety without overwhelming players with complexity. Instead of relying on difficult platforming sequences or demanding reflexes, the game encourages careful observation and experimentation. The puzzles are designed to fit naturally within the world, reinforcing the themes of time manipulation and memory exploration rather than feeling disconnected from the narrative. Another enjoyable aspect is the collectible photo album system. As players travel through the world, they can gather photographs that document their journey and preserve memorable moments. This feature fits seamlessly into the game's core concept and provides an additional incentive to thoroughly explore every area. Rather than functioning as a simple collectible checklist, the album becomes a meaningful record of the adventure, strengthening the emotional connection between the player and the world. The pacing of Pholee is intentionally gentle, which will appeal to players who enjoy relaxing adventures. However, this same design choice may limit its appeal for those seeking intense action, challenging combat, or highly complex gameplay systems. The experience prioritizes atmosphere, storytelling, and discovery above all else. Players who appreciate narrative-driven indie games will likely find this approach rewarding, while those looking for fast-paced excitement may consider the game too subdued. What ultimately makes Pholee memorable is how well its various elements support a unified vision. The hand-drawn visuals, photographic time-travel concept, environmental puzzles, memorable characters, and collectible memories all work together to create a cohesive and emotionally engaging experience. It is a game that values creativity and charm over spectacle, offering a thoughtful adventure that encourages players to slow down and appreciate its world. Pholee succeeds as a heartfelt indie adventure that blends exploration, storytelling, and puzzle-solving into an experience filled with charm and imagination. While its relaxed pace and lack of action-oriented gameplay may not suit every audience, its distinctive concept, attractive presentation, and emotionally driven journey make it a worthwhile experience for fans of atmospheric and narrative-focused games.
