I'm very hesitant to give it a negative review, because I didn't actually get a chance to enjoy the game. The game just needs time. Lots of my time. Unfortunately, I don't have this much. So, I chose to start as the Horuspex, so I immediately get hunted, but that is not even the problem. The problem is I just got from train station to the guy's house. Then I got sent almost all the way back to the train station. From there, to the warehouses, then to the cemetery, then to the whatever place the usurer lives on the other side of the map. And I've not even completed a single quest that gave me anything to work with: no food, no tradeable items, nothing to stop me from frantically save scumming and do the same bits of the game over, and over, and over, until I "git gud" at running from house to house, from district to district, from one end of the map to the other. I realized that this is going to be the whole game, and I'm sorry, but I have better things to do than this. Most of the game is nothing's happening, you just walk. Okay, cool. Not my thing.
This game is going to change your life, your feelings and the concept you hold about life and death. It is the videogame analogue for the best Russian literature. It is the videogame analogue of sadness, pain, madness but also hope and kindness. It will bring you to the dark corners of the human psyche and nature, and abandon you there to suffer without further explanation. It's a misery simulator, for you to experience the worst existential angst from the *hopefully* safe side of the screen. A bad trip of a psychedelic experience, perspective changing neural rewire, that I'm glad to have enjoyed

I found Pathologic very interesting because of its atmosphere, unique city design, music, districts, and architecture. The world feels mysterious and unlike most other games, which is probably its strongest aspect. However, the longer I played, the more boring and frustrating it became. There is a huge amount of walking and almost no convenient fast-travel system. Eventually, I found myself wanting to use cheats just to fly around or teleport because constantly running across the map became exhausting rather than immersive. The enemies also become repetitive. You keep encountering the same character models, using the same weapons, with the same behavior and motivations. After a while, combat loses any sense of excitement. I think this game is mainly for people who enjoy deep storytelling, symbolism, and atmosphere. Players looking for engaging gameplay may quickly become frustrated, as many tasks start to feel tedious and unnecessarily painful. One thing that stood out to me was the ability to break into houses with lockpicks, kill entire families, and rob them. It feels extremely dark and morally disturbing, though it certainly fits the game's bleak setting. The themes and narrative often feel like something taken from a fever dream, a bad trip, or the mind of someone experiencing severe psychological distress. Much of the story is intentionally abstract, and at times it barely seems to make sense. Despite all my criticisms, I still think Pathologic is worth trying at least once. Its atmosphere, worldbuilding, and unique vision make it an experience unlike almost any other game, even if the gameplay itself can become frustrating. I played it on my main account (STEAM_0:0:984723), and honestly, the Haruspex storyline was more than enough for me.
