Path to the Sky is a beautiful and fun little indie rouge lite, but one that severely lacks content. I enjoyed it and I can't wait for more, but it might be best to hold off until the dev can deliver a more substantial game. I understand the game is early access, but if you sell your game for $10 it should justify the price, not promise to give you your money's worth later. Path to the Sky is just another roguelike platformer...or is it? As a kid in the early 90's, I fell in love with platformers like Castlevania which featured a great adventure and growing difficulty. I used to picture myself as that lonely hero, discovering foreign places filled with evil and monsters and magic. A few years later I experienced my first RPG, The Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past and fell in love with the genre right away. Since then, games have evolved and now feature amazing graphics and Hollywood class stories and I came to expect something close to perfection like the Witcher 3, Wild Hunt. But sometimes, I find myself craving for some good, old school, pixel art, tough, fantasy action adventure RPG platformer hybrid. And PttS is just that! A perfect blend of what made these games amazing back in the days and so enjoyable after a hard day of work. It features cool art, simple yet challenging gameplay, perfect difficulty curve, lots of attention to details and awesome music while still keeping that fresh, polished feel we've come to expect by today's standards. You start at the bottom of some beautiful and quiet island, the wind gently swings the hanging vines on the wall and you can hear some sweet, blissful music playing along. A ladder. You climb it. It gets you to a room. Then it's up to your destiny (or the randomly generated world featuring dozens of configurations). The many items (spell books, potions, weapons and more) are game-changing. That one item you picked up out of curiosity could bring you to your own death or make you feel like the luckiest bastard around. I always find myself trying it out that new item, risking everything I accomplished until then. Getting some fancy weapon or spell feels very rewarding. Evil fighting relies on a 8 directional bow. It feels clunky at first and brings frustration when enemies are scarce but gets rewarding when you get the hang of it and shoot at the right angle at the perfect time. Boss fighting is all about patterns just like in old games and beating that one boss that put you down so many times feels great. The game rewards you with many chests scattered all around the island. Wooden with common items, gold ones with high-value items and platinum ones (one per level and one per boss) with weapons or powerful charms. Obviously, as a beta, the game is still under construction and somehow, I'd like to see non-flying enemies, hidden rooms, and special costumes. There are a few bugs here and there but nothing of a deal breaker. The developer is making that game with passion, puts a lot of care in it, adds new features and fixes bugs every week and takes the time to reply to any concern. I got to the end of the Beta version and can't wait to see what's coming next. It has the potential to become one of my future classics. So, is it just another roguelike platformer? Yes. I got many like these in my Steam library. But this one has that special something. I recommend it a thousand times!
Path to the Sky is a great indie game with one-of-a-kind atmoshphere and the flappybird-virus inherent. It already offers many neat features, namely awesome and atmospheric chiptune music, weapon enchantments, procedurally generated content and epic and demanding bossfights! DEK really put out a great piece of art and proofs that early access not necessarily has to mean owning an bug-loaded and unenjoyable game, not at all. I, for myself, enjoyed playing Path to the Sky a lot. Exploring the world, searching for new weapon enchantments and experience different weapon and enchantment-combinations. The game may not be as hard as Dark Souls but it for sure is not forgiving. So be careful, adventurer! I for myself am looking forward to further updates and wasting some more of my precious time with this game. I definitely got more bang for the buck than with some other games from bigger companies! If you like 2D platformers with modern elements, procedurally generated content and great music make sure to check Path to the Sky out - you will most likely not be dissappointed.
I reccomend this a lot - Paid by game creator to review this product.

While it may still be in early access, there is a good feel to this game. Movement feels natural so you don't feel annoyed by its challenging nature. As it's a permadeath game, your run may be short, but its sound design and aesthetics will ensure a wonderful experience nonetheless. There's a good foundation built already, so it will be very exciting to see how the developer dekdev will move on from here. Please read the developer notes before purchasing.
Awesome. It's in Early Access, and already really fun and addicting. Would highly recommend if you like: Smooth platforming Well-designed artistic visuals Great retro aesthetics Mysterious and soothing music Super satisfying fighting... just feels so good to shoot stuff in this game. The power-ups and items a great and feel really good when you get them. On top of this, The developer has a lot of really great plans for the future of this game (check out the discussions) and seems like the kind of developer that will ACTUALLY implement them. The first thing that really stands out about this game is the artwork, the landscapes are beautiful and the characters look charming. Keyboard controls are a little frustrating, and the controller options don't offer all the layouts that they could but xpadder solves this. Gameplay is very binding of Isaac, procedurally generated rooms full of monster to kill using twin stick shooting and items to help you along the way. Strangely relaxing in a frantic sort of way.
